  1. Only early on. Their rotation is not much better than the Sox, if at all (although wild card Nate Pearson could go either way, and one of those might put them over the top). But their bullpen has more question marks in it than the Sox bullpen does. Their only real pitching advantage is at the prospect level...
  2. NBA teams have minor league affiliates...
  3. Well, walking out on the Cardinals in a dispute over playing time probably did not help his brand...
  4. The Sox could easily pummel the makeshift rotation that the Jays have, too...
  5. That does help.
  6. Roster sizes do vary, so that needs to be accounted for...
  7. When compared to other sports, MLB owners have done an insane job of keeping salaries low. Carson Wentz made $32mill AAV on his cotnract this year. His season is 10% as long as an MLB season. Also he sucks. Imagine how much he could make if he was good? John Wall - extremely talented player, but not a name one thinks of as the NBA's elite - has a contract with an AAV of $42.7 million - higher than any contract in MLB history. Again, the season is only about one half of an MLB season. Also, in terms of durability, John Wall makes Nathan Eovaldi look like Nolan Ryan...
  8. Is that a high enough floor? Right now that gets you Trevor Bauer and 25 players making less than $1mill each...
  9. Villar to the Mets 1 year $3.55 mill. If he returns to his 2019 form (4.1 fWAR), this is an absolute steal for the Mets...
  10. Well, I have been pushing Puig for a while now. He is an absolute monster. And when I say that I mean I am not sure he is human. He certainly does not behave like one...
  11. FTFY Especially since it does not highlight how tremendeous Jake Arrieta was during a couple of those years, which include a Cy Young Award...
  12. Doubtful Duran makes the team out of ST. Limited OF playing time and he does need to step up the defense. He's done well in some short seasons, but his last full season ended with a pretty bad stint in AA ball. He might debut in 2021, but not in Aoril. And he probably is NOT a better player right now than Kevin Pillar or Yasiel Puig...
  13. Gennett was awful in 2019 (due to an early season oblique strain) and did not play in 2020. If he is even looking for work, he probably settles for a minor league deal or a contract with an Asian league...
  14. EE always wanted to come to Boston for the honor of replacing Ortiz. Encarnacion was pretty awful last year, but I hope the short season isn't weighed too heavily, especially since he was very good in 2019. His 1B has been limited recently, but isn't non-existant, having played 57 games at 1B in 2019. Zero games there in 2020, but that probably does not reflect as much on Encarnacion as it does on 2020 AL MVP Jose Abreu. I do think if the Sox add a 1B, it might be a LHH like Moreland, who apparently is the guy who talked Boston up to Garrett Richards when they were teammates in San Diego...
  15. Pivetta always reminded me of Jake Arrieta. Both had similar stories about having an incredible arsenal they just could not harness and played for teams that just could not maximize their talents, but were hesitant to deal them both due to their potential. Both were finally traded iin July of their age 27 seasons. Arrieta threw 358 IP for the Orioles with a 5.46 ERA/4.72 FIP. Pivetta threw 396 IP for the Phillies with a 5.50 ERA/4.64 FIP. After the deal, Arrieta threw 803 IP for the Cub with a 2.73 ERA/3.16 FIP. Probably a bit much to expect those numbers from Pivetta, but I do think there is a chance he pitches much better than he did in Philly. So far Pivetta has a 1.80 ERA/3.39 FIP for the Sox in 10 IP...
  16. If players not on the 40 man count, I believe Jimenez is the fastest, followed by Duran. If you mean only on the 40, probably Rosario...
  17. Yep. He ran right off it...
  18. It wasn’t going to slow. It got injured and will spend the next 15 days on the IL...
  19. Not if we bring back Clay Buchholz!!
  20. They’re just going to dump everything on mvp’s lawn....
  21. He might be, but the initial buzz is he plays 2b...
  22. Or RF. As much as Verdugo is a better fit for RF than CF, the option cannot be ignored. Although I think Pillar is the most likely option at this point, ahead of Puig...
  23. ..carried heavily by a single 3 for 6 game where he homered of Kyle Hart and Marcus Walden and doubled against Jose Peraza. Possibly not representative against actual MLB pitching...
  24. As the pen stands today, what makes you think Gossett is destined for Worcester?
  25. 2024 is Alex Verdugo's option year. If the plan is to wait that long, it is already flawed...
