  1. So are they dealing Bogaerts to fit them? If they bring in one of those SS's, it does ensure Bogaerts would opt out after 2022. Unless they deal him before the season, when his value will be at it's lowest due to having one season of control remaining. But my thoughts are, ignore those guys and keep they guy you have. Maybe work out an extension for him to prevent the opt out...
  2. I am always hesitant to accept any numbers until a player has at least 5 plate appearances..
  3. Downs has played only a handful of games above A-ball. I think accommodating him in the immediate future plans at this point might be a tad premature. They could sign a 1-2 year deal to Kolten Wong, Jonathan Villar, Tommy La Stella or Jonathan Schoop and then see where Downs is after 2021. If Downs is still a worthwhile prospect, at worst this would delay him making the team until 2023, with 2022 still on the table. There are no second basemen on the market right now that should command a deal longer than 1-2 years, except maybe Wong...
  4. Vote IBM Watson 2024!!
  5. The Sox did have the option of not firing him...
  6. Well, you have to bear in mind soxprospects.com lists the Sox #30 prospect as Deivy Gruillon. So to crack the Sox top 30, he just has to be more highly regarded than a player who was waived by Philadephia this past season...
  7. I think that is pretty likely. I don't think the Sox spend extravagantly on CF if they actually have a potential starter just waiting. If they spend on any position, it would be 2B or to backfill another traded stater who gets dealt for pitching (Vazquez?). Like I said, this opens to door for Pillar or Marisnick or possibly Mallex Smith, who had his best season playing on a Bloom team in Tampa. (And who should have been an option in the poll)...
  8. Maybe not for the Cubs, but it might end up being one for the Sox...
  9. If the Sox keep Duran down until he is 26, they would at least control him through age 32. If they think as highly of him as you think (and they might), it could mean a stopgap CF like Pillar/Marisnick/Lagares type is more likely in 2021. Someone they can bench halfway through the season if Duran needs a shot...
  10. You and MLBTR say that, and you both could and should be right. But in order for you to be right, you need at least one MLB GM on your side...
  11. Unless they move Benintendi, either to CF or another team...
  12. I think most of our opinions on the subject fall into that realm...
  13. I think the Sox CF next year will be Kevin Kiermaier. The Rays need a catcher and have oodles (Yes, oodles!) of young pitching Bloom knows well. And he’ll take back Kiermaier’s expensive (2 yr / $25.6mill) contract away from Tampa in order to get as much pitching as he can. That Tampa has an abundance of centerfielders with Margot and Arozarena just adds to how much sense this deal would make for them...
  14. It comes down to how many get considered "premier." I think Bauer and Realmuto. Beyond that, I am not so certain anyone will...
  15. He might just take 1/$20mill and hope 2021-22 is a better market. Plus he'd be in a better position without a QO attached...
  16. Of course, if he reverts to his pre-2020 numbers, he might be the Pillar of Salt...
  17. Duran as a fourth outfielde strikesme as a bad idea, as he would spend too much time on the bench. Signing one of the stopgap players and bringing Duran into the fold mid-season as a starter would work for me...
  18. If the market is such that Brad Hand cannot even get claimed off waivers with a $10mill contact attached, a player like Springer might decide to take a one year deal and re-enter the market without a Qualifying Offer after next season, where he could presumably get a much better contract. Do you give up the draft pick and use a huge chunk of the team budget (whatever it is) to sign Springer for a single season?
  19. That's why they bashed forearms....
  20. Your qualifications are definitely superior to mine. Applying?
  21. I knew Burke had come out, but I didn’t know he did it before Bean or while active...
  22. He wasn’t. But he has been for a while and is on a very short list of former MLB players who have come out. I think it’s just two...
  23. The Sox just came in fifth. Playing Cat and Mouse against the Yankees with regards to roster moves might be a bit premature. Let’s pass Baltimore first...
  24. Eh. I can learn Python and probably need my SQL certification. But that’s all paperwork and anyone can get that. I have a project background, statistical analysis background, an application to baseball in my past, the ability to present and convey data. My big question mark (and the ONLY reason I haven’t applied yet) is I have yet to think of a suggested project. Any ideas?
  25. Well, I have an engineering degree, (mild) programming and database knowledge, and even a past project that used statistical analysis to predict future modeling (the ol’ WAPM)...
