  1. It's not an unreasonable deal, but it might not be an indication of contracts to come. At best, we will probably see more 1-2 year deals from players hoping the situation can rebound in the next couple years, especially among the free agents 30 and younger...
  2. Exactly. We're doomed now!!
  3. I'd love for the Sox to get Jon Gray, a former #1 overall pick whose just been wasting away in the most hitter-friendly park on the planet. The biggest issue is he has only one year of cotnrol left, but that can be handled with an extension. I do assume Bloom will sign an innings-eater type, with Porcello as my top choice. The guy never gets hurt, has had success for the Sox, and his 3.33 FIP suggests his 5.64 ERA might be an illusion. And is still only 31 years old despite his lengthy career. (He turns 32 in December.)
  4. The last 3 World Series have gone to managers holding their first managerial position - Roberts, Dave Martinez, and Cora. AJ Hinch was the last manager to win a World Series while managing a later team...
  5. Well, it is a paycut. His non-pro-rated salary last year would have been $9.4 million...
  6. Which is why I have been saying the bullpen is the bigger issue. There are no difference-making free agent starters worth going for if Bloom avoids anyone with a QO. But there are some relievers worth going for, including Hand, Handriks, May, Kela, Osuna, and Rosenthal. I still think Bloom signs a starter, but he will be better off doing his heavy spending on the bullpen and making a deal for a better starting pitcher...
  7. Ray needed a short team value-rebuilder. He had a horrible season last year, despite actually having increased velocity...
  8. I didn't think he would ever sign the extension with Boston in the first place. His agent (Scott Boras) does always recommend against doing exactly that. So it does lead me to believe he is the rare case that says he wants to play in city X for his whole career and might actually mean it...
  9. I don't think Sale is all that tradable...
  10. The World Series just went to a manager still on his first managerial job. But we have even Davie Ross just retire from playing, take a couple years off, and walk into the MLB dugout with no experience coaching or minor league management or anything. Did Bret Boone coach anywhere before managing the Yankees?
  11. Even sticking with traditional stats, the difference between the 2.71 ERA and 3.37 ERA isn't all that crazy. If you assume 75 IP (a fair amount for a closer over a full season), it amounts to 5.5 earned runs over a full season...
  12. Well, it's not like there were a slew of other openings, either...
  13. A trade that would be dependant onCleveland moving Lindor, which is actually very likely. The downside is it leaves the Sox without a shortstop and that plethora of talent class is not for another full season. Of course, this poster has always been a big Andrelton Simmons fan and thinks he would work out nicely in Boston...
  14. The thing is, if trading Bogaerts and replacing him with, say, Correa is an upgrade, why wouldn’t the interested team just go get Correa? It’s not like Bogaerts is playing a minimum wage contract either. And the price for Correa will likely be similar...
  15. This article does say "MLB Trade Rumors predicted Bradley Jr. receiving a two-year, $16 million deal. Other high-end free agent outfield options include George Springer and Marcell Ozuna, both of whom will also cost a draft pick if signed due to the qualifying offer attached." Ozuna does not have a qualifying offer attached...
  16. Well, you can’t go by what he did in Tampa. He had no budget there. Did Friedman clean house in LA? That’s the model to follow. Friedman didn’t trade Seager and sign Correa/Lindor/Baez. And he probably won’t.
  17. I was just excited to see the off-season starting...
  18. Robbie Ray re-signs with the Jays. First one off the board! The off-season is underway!!!
  19. To bring it back around, I could see the Sox dealing Chavis for Cain and Adrian Houser. BTV does not like that deal for the Sox and Milwaukee would need to add an additional piece, such as minor league catcher Mario Feliciano...
  20. DD will GM again one day. But the pandemic does cramp his style so he best wait a bit...
  21. Well, really I think they’re more equal. But Cherington walked into a horrible situation...
  22. Cherington rocks!
  23. The proper (re: truer) saying is “practice makes progress”...
  24. Not since Bernie Williams anyway...
  25. Oh yeah. Well, same idea applies. No idea what Milwaukee wants. They might do Chavis (replacement for the departed Gyorko) for Cain and a pitcher. But no idea what pitcher. Especially since former questionable prospect Corbin Burnes morphed in Cy Young in the middle of last season....
