  1. OK. They do have one...
  2. Porcello having talks with the Tigers...
  3. Bradley at 12/2 is also worth it because, if the Sox are out of it in July, he can be flipped to a contender in need of OF help. History does indicate that position players get lesser returns mid-season than pitchers. But that is no reason to not pursue him. He would be good for fans, as he is a known commodity. And, let's face it, Boston has a bad reputation in some certain regards, and right now Bloom has purged this team of all it's African American players except Marcus Wilson, who might be next. While I have my doubts this is anything except a coincidence, it doesn't do much to help the reputation of the city and team...
  4. Trey Ball was a long time ago. They hit with Benintendi since then, but for some reason, people like to cling that one failure as if is now the only possible outcome. And that was a really bad draft overall for pitching, with 4 of the 5 pitchers taken in the top 10 combining for 63 IP in the majors, with 62 of them coming from a below average Kohl Stewart. (And the other IP coming from Phil Bickford, who showcased his talent by surrendering 4 ER in it.) Whoever they draft this year - and the latest rankings would have it as Miami catcher Adrian Del Castillo - it might not be anyone who will make any sort of impact for a while anyway...
  5. He's only topped that one time in his career. Now it was in the season when he had his career high in PA, but as it was only 2 PA higher than his second highest, and he only had 88 wRC+ then, it is not a given...
  6. But that problem is not limited to the Sox...
  7. The Sox were actually lucky it all happened at once. (Although since they all went down with COVID except for Sale, it was not really a coincidence.)
  8. That's such a big part of the 2020 season. How do people think the 2018 season would have gone if the team got 0 IP from Sale and Price? Do people think ERod and Porcello were going to lead this team to the best record in MLB and a World Series title? Would they have even made the playoffs?
  9. Once Sale went down, it was no longer a choice anyway...
  10. I wouldn't call it a good chance. Most PTBNL's fall far short of the Ortiz/Crisp/Brantley list. BASed on absolutely nothing, I am going to speculate the Mets' PTBNL will be 2020 2nd rounder JT Ginn (RHP). The reason he is a PTBNL is that he has yet to actually pitch minor league ball. But he will fare well enough in A ball to be sent to Boston in that deal. Not sure who else is on the list, but I would be surprised if the Sox did not ask for Ginn or someone similar. The PTBNL's from the Royals are probably much lesser players. And the one from the Phillies might wind up just being cash...
  11. Actually I like a lot of the acquisitions. I'd just like to see Bloom spend a few extra bucks on someone like Odorizzi to make this team even better. And on a LHH outfielder, preferably Bradley. The bullpen is light years ahead of last year's. The rotation is better. The 40 man roster saw about 12 names, all of whom were AAAA payers at best, removed and, in most cases, discarded. And only one AAAA player was added back on, and that was yesterday...
  12. So Cordero is a back seat wild card, but the PTBNL's need more attention?
  13. And Franchy!!!
  14. Monetarily I have no idea about Puig. But if you want him to mentor Duran, I am all against it...
  15. HAve they? His UZR/150 was about league average in 2019, but has been above in the 2-8 range since 2015. His DRS ran negative a couple years but bounced back last year in a big way. Now did that happen because he is losing a step or did it bounce back because he now has to (and clearly can?) cover more of right center since Betts was not out there for the first time in a while?
  16. Maybe he will be one of those guys DFA'd every week by a new team. Good enough to not get through waivers but not good enough to be added to anyone's 40 man roster...
  17. Puig? Not a good idea...
  18. Schreiber is like Chad Bradford, but without the effectiveness...
  19. Don't we still have one coming from Philadelphia for CJ Chatham?
  20. Bradley may not be elite any more, but he is elite compared to the scrap heap of free agent outfielders left that remain. Unless you like some Yasiel Puig...
  21. Maybe once we get Hippocrates, we can go sign Socrates Brito, Arquimedes Camineiro and Homer Bailey for our All Ancient Greek Team...
  22. Houck? Yes. Ward? No. Ward hasn't pitched since 2019 in High A ball. He's not going from A ball to the Majors after a season off...
  23. We are working on a TTBNL (Team To Be Named Later)...
  24. He did bring Bradley back last year at a pretty good saalry despite trying to pare a lot of money off the payroll. The same thing could happen this year and Bradley appears to be running out of options. If/once Houston bails, I expect Bradley back in Boston...
  25. Maybe we can get more players to be named later.. How many are we owed now? Four?
