  1. Over the past 30 days, Sox starters have a 5.24 ERA, which ranks 12th in the AL. But their starter FIP over that same stretch is 3.97, which is 5th in the AL. Their team E-F is second in the AL.
  2. Red Sox pitching allowed 13 home runs to the Jays in a span of 14 innings. Just something for those of you who think the game lacks offense any more…
  3. I’ve been asking for Weber’s release for years now…
  4. Technically the “last one” was Tanner Houck.
  5. Depends what you mean by “produced.” ERod was acquired as a minor leaguer, and pitched in the minors for Boston. Does that count?
  6. It is an excellent point, especially since I have clearly been overlooking Wilson. Interestingly, while Duran’s home/road splits clearly show a Polar Park bias, Wilson’s are about as equal as can be with a .968 home OPS and a .941 road OPS. With Wilson already on the 40 man roster, one might think he should have an advantage in being called up first. Especially since his defense is not as questionable…
  7. I doubt the Sox put Potts on the 60 day IL and start his MLB service time. More likely they DFA/trade/release Marcus Wilson...
  8. I'm slowly migrating to the camp that says maybe they should deal Duran while his stock is high. Most of his numbers look too artificial to me right now. In A ball he hit well, but he was carried by BABIP's over .400 (including a ridiculously unsustainable .480 in A+). In AA, he did not do well in 350 PA's. In AAA, his numbers look good, but are bolstered by ridiculous home/road splits (1.110 OPS at home/.740 on the road). His BABIP is actually probably very low, but he also looks an awful lot like a Polar Park Product. Couple his indeterminable offensive stats with his defensive track record - moved from the infield to the outfield - was it because he was not a good infielder? His current OF defense by all accounts is nothing to get excited over. Now the BA scouts do like him a lot, which is a good thing. But so far, this guy to me looks like he could be the next Corey Patterson. If he could be moved for a young arm (I can let Bloom decide who), it might be the time to do it...
  9. It also throws a big question mark into how ready to handle MLB pitching Duran really is…
  10. While potentially not a Sox target, I’d bet 29yo Noah Syndergaard does just fine in free agency…
  11. But Duran’s .766 road OPS (and .222 road BA) is a little less than inspiring
  12. Well any win for the Sox will be a walk off win now...
  13. Rule 5.07© already exists!! I don’t see the problem they are trying to create!
  14. Ok maybe I agree more here (in reference to his pace of play post on another thread)...
  15. I have never agreed with dgalehouse more...
  16. Well they acquired him for a lefty reliever with a career ERA of almost 10.00 and a fifth round pick with no MLB experience, so the historical price isn’t TOO high. A controllable former first rounder could have some value. Take, for example, Christian Arroyo. I can see the BTV valuations being reasonable...
  17. I’m going with trade. My best guess is to Miami for Dylan Floro, because 1) the Marlins are loaded with young arms but desperately need hitters 2) Floro does offer the Sox a good bullpen upgrade and has postseason experience with the Dodgers and 3) it works out in BTV...
  18. One of the reasons might rhyme with Justin Pedroia...
  19. There is a delicate balance. For a lot of players, arb money in their final year is higher than the AAV of free agency, especially if they are over 30. This benefits a team in terms of years (since it’s one) but for some teams it can force decisions to be made. While it’s not likely a 4th arb year could prevent the Sox from, say, extending Devers, it’s not a ridiculous postulate that it might limit them to signing a lesser relief pitcher or closer. Most teams prefer not to hamstring themselves as opposed to more financial flexibility. Even Boston...
  20. Hey, I’m still on board with Kike leading off. Although my logic probably differs from most people’s...
  21. It is and has been since 1934 when Hall of Famer Burleigh Grimes retired, as he was the last player legally allowed to doctor the baseball. Yes, he actually had his own rules. But, much like this, cheating across MLB is usually not limited to one or two teams. The Astros’ scandal took the headlines because they won, and the Sox Apple Watch scandal/Yankee bullpen phone scandal. But other teams were also accused with a lot less noise, like the Blue Jays “Man in White” sign stealing scandal. Not everything we hear is true, of course. But the winners and bigger names grab more headlines...
  22. Maybe Duran’s path to MLB would have been faster had he stayed at 2b...
  23. No, but they are cheaper free agents at 31 than at 27...
  24. Translation: “They caught a Yankee!”
  25. With Duran, he still has less than 100 PA in AAA and flopped in 350 PA in AA. Those are probably bigger factors than his control and arb...
