    An option that could still be on the table. Either he accepts the QO and has one season at a higher AAV or he rejects it and you continue to negotiate anyway or move on to someone else in this lackluster free agent group. But if the goal is to keep him at a lower AAV, and the fear is he’d accept a QO, that really is the “worst case scenario” under those conditions. And it’s not a bad case at all, especially if Henry allows for higher payroll…

    It’s also not relevant. Just because no one stepped in to make you question your choice of eating chocolate-dipped radishes or no one prevented you from acting on your decision to flush a whole grapefruit doesn’t mean having technology aid officials is a bad thing. That you lost interest in the NFL - an interest I’d wager was never all that strong to begin with - is also irrelevant to this thread, unless we are allowed to connect it to robo umps…

    They already use a 3-D hologram box to show the path of the ball vs the three dimensional strike zone. It’s probably not accurate, since it’s primarily used solely for the TV audience. But I’m sure it could also be modified to call balls and strikes with increased accuracy. And the plate narrows down to a point so it fits within the foul lines and the entire plate is in fair territory…

    In fact on the subject of other sports, did you know in the Olympics, gymnasts can request reviews of their routine for accurate scoring? And the scorers can adjust the score in either direction after the review?

    So? Numerous sports use technology to make calls and handle limited officiating. Want to go back to using stopwatches to time sprinters? Do we need controversies where Runner A clearly won the race but Runner B had a faster time because the two officials were humans who were not in sync?

    Playing whiffleball growing up we found we really needed an ump, otherwise some kids just didn’t swing forever. Pitchers and hitters just never agreed. Then someone not named notin (only because that’s not his real name) came up with the idea of using a lawn chair as a strike zone. Get the ball into the “sitting area” of the lawn chair and it’s a strike - arguments gone, no questions. And no one had 55 pitch at bats. Solved every problem. So if you don’t see the benefit of technological strike/ball calls, can we agree on using lawn chairs?

    You did specifically write that police don’t get to use instant replay, irrelevant as that is. Really this is more of an argument for robo strike zones. If you don’t like do-overs, you should do everything possible to get it right the first time…

    He might, and that’s the risk. But if that’s the worst case scenario, it’s certainly not a bad one. There are much worse worst case scenarios in which he is not offered a QO…

    If the court system was scheduled to wrap everything up by 3PM CST every Sunday, they would move faster. Really the argument that NFL refs shouldn’t get to use instant replay because cops don’t is completely silly. Go back to the slippery slope arguments

    Miley was actually pretty good last year with his 3.37 ERA supported by a 3.97 FIP, so it's more surprising to me was that he was waived in the first place. Of course, Joe Castiglione did denounce him as an insufferable human being. Not by name, but mentioned his least favorite was someone who "threw a no hitter this year."

    The double bag half in foul ground? Yes, that should have been done a long time ago. That first base is not even in the base path is kind of silly. and by "kind of silly" I mean "very, very stupid."

    B-R has those stats, but you have to look at each pitcher individually and one year at a time...

    We had one umpire who insisted on calling from 10 feet behind the mound. It's like he thought "I need to stand somewhere where it's difficult to call and and strikes and where I have no vantage point for fair/foul calls at all. But behind behind the mound is just too darn close."
