Exactly. Per Fangraphs, the average fastball is 94.3mph this year, which converts to 138 feet/second. So to travel 55 feet (an estimate from release point to plate) takes less than 0.4 seconds. Not a lot of time to decide to swing. Especially since you have to decide long before it gets to the plate, so maybe 0.2 seconds? And that’s for an average fastball...

Now him I can see waiting until June-ish for Super Two reasons. Or later to delay free agency. With Duran, I can see trying to avoid Super Two status, but there is no reason to push free agency back a full year to gain control of his age 31 season...

I think the big problem with Duran is he has only 88 PA this year and only 188 in the past two years. He struggled in AA in 2019 and the Sox wasn’t to see how real he is. Franchy Cordero has an OPS .300 points higher on the same team and with only 40 fewer PA, but no one is clamoring for his return...

You're looking at 40 at bat sample sizes. The difference between .400 and .600 OPS at that size is like two doubles and a walk...

If Dalbec gets demoted, the Sox might be better off just letting Marwin start at 1B. With all these super versatile guys, the Sox should not have to rely on the AAA team to fill positions...

No minor league player should influence how a team drafts. No major league player either. Take the best player. A significant chunk of them change positions before they reach MLB anyway, and yes, that does include pitchers who become position players (and occasionally the opposite. Right, Matt Bush?) -

Yes, Manfred is clearly coming across as a clueless moron, which is a few levels below regular moron. So he wants games to take less time, but not have that affect offenses, and certainly not by enforcing pitch clock rules. I think his next rules will be a ban on slower runners taking too long to hustle around the bases. This means you, Salvador Perez!!!

While not difficult, it’s somewhat biased in that we only get their best relievers/pitchers in the first place. It would be like asking for the ERA of all the All Star pitchers from Texas as evidence about the superiority of pitchers from Texas...

Fun non-racist fact: the two longest careers for Japanese pitchers in MLB belong to Hideo Nono (12 years) and Tomo Ohka (10 years). Of course, many are already 30 or close to it when they come to the USA...

If the Sox signed Holt instead of Hernandez to start at 2b, even with Holt being a fan favorite, there would have been grumblings about Bloom being cheap and not going for the better player...
