  1. I thought it was because his beard liked the funniest…
  2. Fair enough. Although if opponents matter, the Toronto pitching needs to be even more suspect since they never have to face Toronto hitters. And that Tiger staff does pretty well considering they’re the only staff in the AL that doesn’t get to face the Tiger lineup…
  3. No Schofield/Werth?
  4. I’m not saying it isn’t flawed, but there seems to be some sort of pervasive feeling in baseball nerd circles that CERA has little to no value, but no one ever says why. Most flawed stats at least carry a reason. Why is CERA, when used to compare performance of the same pitchers with different catchers, a flawed stat?
  5. Why? The team dealt an oft-injured closer in the midst of a career year and then later acquired a much better one…
  6. Does Pedro have a kid we can deal this one for?
  7. So says Camp Dombo…
  8. It was worth discussing on an irrelevant Internet forum…
  9. Nope. Dombrowski painted my daughter’s guinea pigs bright orange and tattooed the flag of Namibia on my grandmother’s forehead. This is far from over…
  10. 2020 wasn’t the first time Henry reigned in the purse strings and halted the spending. He also did it to Cherington twice. The 2012 team spending was so limited the Sox had to move Marco Scutaro just to squeeze Cody Ross onto the roster. And even after winning it all in 2013, Cherington was not allowed to give a big contract to any pitcher over 30. That was lifted very conveniently for Dombrowski so he could get David Price on the roster…
  11. The Sox are going to have to DFA two players in the very near future in order to get Sale and Brasier on the 40 man roster. Three if they want to add Munoz. Santana is extremely likely to be one of them. He’s had his moments, but overall has been awful and on this team his versatility is redundant. The other one could be Andriese, especially if he is not expected back this year. Or it could be one of the lower level minor league guys not exactly dazzling anyone, like Potts or Rosario. Marwin might go, most likely to accommodate Munoz. Players not likely to be DFAd much to the chagrin of many on this forum include Dalbec, Cordero, Robles and Davis…
  12. I have to think Bloom had bigger priorities in July, especially with the August 31 deadline no longer around. Those guys can all be dealt in the wave of pre-Rule 5 Draft transactions that occurs every December...
  13. This slightly altered yet still true question does make it a little tougher to determine IMO..
  14. Certainly they shoud have been in play, and one such player (Chavis) was dealt. Looking at what he got back (and ignoring my scenario, which, while possible, is probably not very likely), what did we expect for those players, all of whom had less MLB experience and success than even Chavis...
  15. Obviously we can never anticipate the thoughts of 29 other MLB GMs at once, but there is a safe bet that if no one wanted Perez and Richards on the Sox, other GMs weren’t going to line up to get them, either…
  16. The original statement you were called out for (by me) said Barnes has not been the same since stickygate. In the wake of all the Richards and Perez stickygate accusations, you can’t pretend now you were using that solely as a reference point in time. But then I think you know this because TWICE you’ve called me out for calling you out, but in both posts, you stopped mentioning stickygate and started using the calendar months. You were called out for accusing Barnes of cheating, or at a bare minimum unintentionally implying it by forgetting how calendars work…
  17. Sometimes it looks like people want to go after Cora (or whoever is managing) no matter what. The Sox won and scored 20 runs; no need to find fault in this one..
  18. Plawecki is better than Kike? At what? We talking about something other than baseball? Or are people overreacting to the 115 PA of Kevin Plawecki?
  19. At some point, Valdez is responsible for his own pitches. I just think it’s probably a good thing that the one time he gives up 7 ninth inning runs, the team has a 19 run lead. Besides, wouldn’t it be more embarrassing if Cora pulled him with a 12 run lead and only two outs to go? That would be like Cora telling him “I don’t think you can protect this lead”…
  20. Bruce Bochy was another one who dragged those last 3 innings out for an eternity. Especially in September when he have a 12 man bullpen and he’d make 3 to 4 pitching changes an inning…
  21. Yermin Mercedes is 28 years old and spent 9 years in the minors before he ever met LaRussa. His career has always been in question…
  22. So my whole scenario was a fraud!! For shame!! Wait - does his office have a wall clock?
  23. Gilberto Jimenez was one trade chip I was actually disappointed to see still on the Sox, but maybe other GMs don’t like him as much as I did. But if you think he should have been traded, I don’t think “will never make it past AAA” is the best marketing strategy…
  24. The only aspect of my scenario that I doubt is whether or not Chaim Bloom wears a watch. I did wonder if his motivation was to make a trade where the players’ names rhymed. And clearly he was not going to do that in any deal involving Kyle Schwarber…
