With Tampa, Bloom did like to acquire former top prospects who just did not pan out for their original teams. Tyler Glasnow, Jake Bauers, Logan Morrison being some examples. If this is the case, should we expect 2B/OF Shed Long to be on his radar?

Thining 3 free agents for Boston tops. 1 starting pitcher. Prefer GRay, but it will probably be someone like Danny Duffy or Jose Urena. 1 relief pitcher. I will guess it will be Archie Bradley, Hansel Robles, Hector Neris, or Ryan Tepera. They all seem a bit Bloom-ish. 1 second baseman. I like Cesar Hernandez, but Bloom seems to like infielders who play a boatload of positions, including Kike, Santana, Arroyo, Jose Peraza, and even Jose Iglesias. So let's predict Leury Garcia here for no real reason except that one plus he fits any budget. I did go bargain basement across the board. Not that I think Bloom necessarily will, but I also have no clue about his budget....

I really need help in learning what Steve Matz brings to the table that Danny Duffy doesn't. Matz' name seems to be getting thrown around a lot more than he actually deserves...

Yes. They usually do it by weighing projected salary vs projected fWAR and deciding if the player is worth it. This is not a surprise. I doubt he gets non-tendered, unless Oakland also tries to re-sign him for less.

Maybe it's a simple as taking Jon Gray (5.8 fWAR over the past 3 years) over reigning Cy Young winner Robbie Ray (5.9 fWAR over the past 3 years)...

That's not the same as saying "we want no names". It just means that star power and Q factor won't be the driving forces...

They probably just move the ones with the biggest projections - Olson, Manaea, Chapman, and Bassitt. Maybe even just 3 of them. If I had to guess one who stays, I would say Bassitt, since he probably has the least trade value as the oldest and only one year of control left. That he projects to make the least of the 4 probably helps, too. One never discussed name on the list that might interest Boston is Chad Pinder. Good overall player, but he does not really excel either offensively or defensively (at least at 2B). But he might be available, doesn't make a lot of cash, and plays a slew of positions, which is something Bloom clearly values...

No. He thinks they are looking at Jon Gray, but they need to look more closely at J Gray. Maybe he meant Josiah Gray. Maybe you assumed too much.

The only pitchers on here inlcude one guy with a ton of mileage who simply isn't the pitcher he was 5 years ago, one guy coming off a very unrepresentative career year and one guy who hasn't thrown as many as 133 IP in a season since 2016...
