  1. He might only be 6 months younger, but Munoz has spent parts of 3 seasons in MLB. I'll have to take your word that he is a better defender, but the folks at soxprospects write them up such that it could be interpreted differently. One advantage is that maybe Fitzgerald is less of an ******* than Munoz, who clearly has some issues considering how he left the Cardinals organization in a flull blwon hissy fit...
  2. Kelly was terrific last year for the Sox minor league system. He is also getting up there for a proispect as he turns 27 in March. He very well might get selected and might even be a decent addition for another team. He certainly should make his debut in MLB this year if he is healthy. Not sure if he makes sense to protect, but he does make more sense than a few guys currently on the 40 man. (Hudson Potts, I'm looking at you.) And he makes a ton more sense than Fitzgerald. For some reason, soxprospects.com lists him as the starting CF for Greenville. If so, that entire outfield with Rafaela, Jimenez and Decker are guys that arguments can be made for and against. But to me, this guy is not even on the radar...
  3. You really think the Sox are going to protect a 27yo utility infielder with no MLB experience? If he ever added to the 40 man roster, it will be to make his debut. I'd protect the younger Yairo Munoz before I protected Fitzgerald...
  4. OK, so wider circles...
  5. I think chances of him getting DFA'd are up there with my chances of winning Mega Millions without buying a ticket. He might wash out and get released at some point this year, but he was good enough to justify his $1.2mill AAV even with his horrific second half, his BB issues and his 5.00 FIP. I would say there is absolutely no chance he gets DFAd in front of the Rule 5 draft. Chances that he is still with the club in September are closer to 75%. And maybe it's in the 10% range for picking up his option after the season...
  6. Or maybe they want to leave a spot open to participate in the Rule 5 draft. You are not allowed to draft anyone if the 40 man roster is full...
  7. Ah, but everyone projected the Mariners to miss the postseason and they did. Yet Servais still got more votes than Cora despite meeting and not exceeding his meager expectations. Heck, Montoya was projected (by some) to get his team to the postseason, and he failed, and yet he still got more votes than Cora. I'm thinking the fix was in here...
  8. Why on Earth would the Sox DFA Sawamura? He's already signed for 2022 and even has a buyout for 2023. So no chance at saving money. Sure, he was no Mariano Rivera, but the Sox are not likely to find a better replacement for the $1.2mill he makes...
  9. But it was only one one knee, so he would wind up running around in circles...
  10. Mostly because 29 other teams are trying to do the same thing with their 40 man rosters...
  11. We had a good chance. Nine of the 30 current MLB managers would be considered Red Sox alumni...
  12. It seems like Manager of the Year is often given to a guy who wins the most with the smallest payroll...
  13. If the Sox DFA Plawecki in the next two days - or trade Hernandez - then it starts to look more and more like the idea is to protect Cottam...
  14. I could see a DFA in the very near future for both Austin Davis and Kevin Plawecki...
  15. I think both. Struggling to adjust to AAA after taking a year off…
  16. Statements like that always make me think of Dwayne Hosey. Lightning fast runner. Horrible outfielder. Dude couldn't catch a cold if he was naked in Norway...
  17. Or Baez plays 2B for one year while the whole Bogaerts situation works itself out.
  18. Not sure. I just saw his name on a potential non-tender list. Probably either salary or they need the 40 man roster spot. Or both. I would call him a bubble candidate...
  19. They never should have. He barely touched AA in 2019, then did not play at all in 2020, and then was effectively bumped up 2 levels for 2021 after not playing for a full year. His struggles were not a surprise, and his biggest crime was failing to be Juan Soto...
  20. Never confuse speed with quickness. Speed might help on defense, but there is no guarantee a fast player is a good defender, as speed has nothing to do with the ability to judge, catch or throw...
  21. Maybe he gets $125/5. Should the Sox be in on him then?
  22. I think Baez will top $100mill. Probably not by much, but I think he can. All it takes is one crazy GM like maybe Scott Harris to go all in and overbid everyone else. Not saying it will be Scott Harris, but it will definitely be Scott Harris...
  23. BTV accepts a trade proposal of Franchy Cordero for Matt Boyd. Boyd is a potential non-tender candidate with Detroit with only one year left before free agency. I do realize I am on a very short list of people who still have faith in him as a pitcher. I think even Mrs. Boyd dropped off that list a couple of years back...
  24. He and Ward are both likely to be out until August/September this year. So a minimum of 2 more years before they enter any kind of discussion about being on the parent club...
  25. And what will the Yankees be giving up for Reynolds? Ben Cherington is a notorious prospect hoarder. If you have a player you think is off-limits, that will be undoubtedly what he wants and it will be non-negotiable. Per BTV, Reynolds has a surplus value of $85mill. Using their system, the Yankees would need to trade Volpe and Dominguez and Gil to get Reynolds...
