  1. Running the Rays was his Senior Project. The Rays take any cheap help they can get…
  2. We haven’t had an exciting off-season in years…
  3. And the lockout just seemed like a dumb maneuver to me, since they already had the upper hand and that would have continued under any slightly modified CBA..
  4. He’s bi-curious with his saber metrics…
  5. You also do have an affinity for making platoons out of players across two or more positions
  6. Also it helps that it’s pretty much impossible to block pitching prospects…
  7. I expect either a starting 2b or LF and maybe a corner platoon option for Bradley instead of using Arroyo in a moonslav-style defensive game of musical chairs. I think they won’t add any more starters and it’s more likely that instead of additions, we see Whitlock and/or Houck in the rotation. So, yeah, relievers are probably coming…
  8. Is Renfroe really that much better off an overall player than your frequently-omitted JBJ?
  9. All that could happen to anyone, but when people talk about prospects being blocked, rarely are they referring to backup catcher…
  10. How the 2022 roster projects today C: Vazquez 1b: Dalbec (and eventually Casas) 2b: K Hernandez (vs RHP), Arroyo (vs LHP) 3b: Devers SS: Bogaerts LF: Duran CF: Bradley (vs RHP), K Hernandez (vs LHP) RF: Verdugo DH: Martinez BN: Plawecki, Arauz, OF? SP: Sale, Eovaldi, Hill, Pivetta, Wacha BP: Houck, Whitlock, Barnes, Brasier, Taylor, Sawamura, D Hernandez, Davis So as you can see, there should be some activity once transactions resume. Heck the only other outfielder on the 40 man roster is a Jeisson Rosario…
  11. Yes, Virginia, there will be an MLB season. The lockout is likely to continue well into January and possibly even February, but both sides stand to realize that a missed season is the worst possible outcome for everyone…
  12. I think he will be fine, but the transition to Japan and the k league there has been unpredictable. We’ve seen mediocre MLB players like Randy Bass going over there and become superstars who threatened league records and also MLB All Stars like Dave Nilsson just turn into complete flops that lasted less than one season…
  13. The Sox reached an agreement with Plawecki. He’sa done deal and one they can’t get out of. They can’t even release him and only pay 10%. Duran maybe can make the team, but right now his problem isn’t that he’s blocked. With no real 2b starter, the current Sox alignment might be Kike (2b), Bradley (CF) and Verdugo (RF). Duran isn’t really blocked from LF by anyone…
  14. The Sox lineup doesn’t have too many holes where the farm has superior. Maybe 1b. That’s about it…
  15. Andriese has been in the major leagues since 2015. Despite not matching up with other MLB pitchers last season, he’s far and away as better pitcher than any of us who ever played have ever faced. Except msybe other major leaguers, of course…
  16. That 2009 Red Sox dugout had 4 current MLB managers in it, with Francona, Kotsay, Chris Woodward, and Rocco Baldelli…
  17. My only Kotsay memory was his pinch triple over the head of BJ Upton in game 5 of the 2008 NLDS, bringing a one time Tampa 7-0 lead to 7-6. And then Kotsay later scored the tying run after a 6,587 pitch at-bat by Coco Crisp. Beyond that, Kotsay just didn’t do much for the Sox, much like Texas Rangers’ manager Chris Woodward the following season…
  18. … was hired to manage the Oakland A’s. Counting Kotsay, 12 of the current 30 MLB managers have been employed by the Red Sox at some point in their careers, as either a player, coach, manager, or front office executive…
  19. Of course his signings were unimpressive. He was looking for discounts before he knew what the new rules he was going to have to play by were established. I have no idea if a new CBA means his budget will go up, down, or stay the same, but it does make sense that a team like Boston that was already up against the previous tax limit might want to hold back a bit until at least seeing what the new limit (if any?) is…
  20. He does get hurt too frequently, but he can field, is friends with Cora, and just turned 27…
  21. Trevor Story = extremely expensive Paul DeJong. Reportedly the Cardinals are looking to upgrade at SS over DeJong, so save the cash and commitment and just go get PDJ instead. I’d rather splurge on Correa than waste money (and more importantly, years) on the adequate but undoubtedly overpriced Story…
  22. He does seem to throw a lot of strikes. But mostly as a bowler. Still it’s impressive given the ball he uses isn’t even close to being round…
  23. If the owners are amenable to that, why is there a lockout?
  24. Spent in 1997. Fire sale in 1998. That fire sale did bring in a couple of key players for the 2003 run…
  25. It helped Houston, as tanking allowed them to draft Correa, McCullers, and Springer with high picks (or, in the case of McCullers, a later pick financed by going underslot on the first rounder Carlos Correa)…
