  1. And I remember you didn’t play any games in the ALDS that year. You also didn’t play in the ALCS either, right?
  2. Grady Little made a lot of us feel better about it...
  3. His pitch count limits have been pretty low all season, and he has shown why several times. I don't think that one game equated to a sudden ability to go substantially deeper into games. And the Sox are going to need a few solid arms in th bullpen. Especially since no one knows which Matt Barnes is going to be back in 2022...
  4. But then he was pulled after 5, and probably for a very good reason...
  5. While I am not a huge fan of that rotation and the trickle down effect it has on the bullpen, I certainly can see it happening. I'd love Schwarber back, but the reality is he becomes a difficult player to fit into the lineup. But I would not rule it out. The Sox do have a potential outfield logjam with Verdugo, Hernandez, Duran and Renfroe (and maybe Schwarber?). I suppose it is possible one of them - most likely Duran - is moved in a deal for a SP. The Sox could certainly field a competitive team with minimal acquisitions (C: Vazquez, 1b: Dalbec, 2B: Hernandez, 3B: Devers, SS: Bogaerts, LF: Verdugo, CF: Duran, RF: Renfroe, DH: Martinez with a rotation of Sale/Eovaldi/Pivetta/Whitlock/Houck) beyond maybe a bullpen arm or two. But I don't think they will...
  6. Reportedly the plan all along has been to groom Whitlock for a starting role, so I would not be too surprised there despite that I love have him and Houck anchor the bullpen. Houck, IMO, has shown he just belongs in the bullpen...
  7. This is the big question. Now, the Sox have an obvious fallback option with Schwarber at DH, Verdugo in LF, Hernanadez in CF and Arroyo at 2B. The Rays do have three potential LHP (NcClanahan, Yarbourough, Fleming) to start against the Sox, which creates the need to bump Verdugo from the lineup, and this might be the problem. Who would replace him in LF? Even if they move Schwarber to LF, if the bench bats are the same ones for the WC game - Duran (left--handed), Shaw (also left-handed), Arauz (not much of a hitter), Wong, and Plawecki are the platoon options. Hopefully JD is ready to go...
  8. I doubt the Sox get too involved in free agency, simply because most of the non-shortstop options look pretty uninspiring. Free agency largely involves paying hefty sums of money for players exiting or past their primes. Beyond maybe Semien, who has already been rumored to be on Bloom's radar (and reportedly was last year), I think anyone he signs will probably not be of a big name and not for the PR aspect that free agency definitely creates. Now if he deals Bogaerts, certainly getting involved become a different matter. And there are obvious reasons to deal Bogaerts (pending opt out) and reasons not to deal Bogaerts (very popular homegrown player with All Star pedigree)...
  9. Despite my repeated criticisms of the Eovaldi contract, going back to the date it was signed, I don't think I ever advocated trading him. Most likely, however, because I never really thought his contract coupled with his injury history would ever bring back much...
  10. No. Losing may be upsetting to pessimists. But by definition it isn’t disappointing…
  11. No. Getting injured on your way to your position is timeless…
  12. Are you also ok with people referring to a tomato as a vegetable?
  13. Or on a streetcar. Specifically one named Desire...
  14. I saw John Goodman play Babe Ruth in a movie. Think Goodman could hit like Ruth? Maybe your Aunt Ruth, I suppose. You know, the octogenarian who proudly displays her collection of keys that don't have corresponding locks and has a candy dish filled with Reagan Era jawbreakers all melded together into a singular multicolored mound that has adopted a uniform flavor reminiscent of a lemon soaked in turpentine. Maybe Goodman could hit like her...
  15. But he leads the team in stolen bases!!!
  16. Paxton Crawford. Bake McBride once injured his back pulling up his socks and was known for constantly missing games for all kinds of injuries. He once said of himself "Bake McBride is the only player who goes on the DL if he gets soapsuds in his eye." Not quite Sammy Sosa throwing out his back while sneezing or Adam Eaton (the pitcher, not the outfielder) stabbing himself in the stomach while opening a DVD. But Bake and Mickey Klutts were the stiff of injury legends...
  17. It's post-season. The tiebreaker game 163 is, by rule, regular season. Any statitstics that occur in those tiebreaker games count towards the regualr season stats, and the win counts towards the regular season record of the teams. The 1978 Red Sox finished the regular season with a record of 99-64, and the Yankees were 100-63 that year. In both cases, those records do not add up to 162 games. In contrast, the 2019 WS Champ Nationals finished the regular season 93-69 for a total of 162 regular season games, Their victory over the Brewers in the Wild Card game did not change that record. And winning pticher Stephen Strasburg's record was listed as 1-0 in the box score, with the game not impacting his 18-6 regular season record...
  18. That's Bake McBride level injury stuff...
  19. And he gets replaced with Luis Guzman, assuming he was not already cast elsewhere in the movie...
  20. I think it would be 1,000,000,000,000,000 times easier to learn to act than it would be to learn to hit. Especially if you are over 25. And movies stars are beautiful? Have you ever seen Adam Sandler?
  21. And, more important, the Jays would have faced Gerrit Cole…
  22. So… awards? My thoughts. AL MVP: Vlad Guerrero JR. Cy Young: Gerrit Cole ROY: Randy Arozarena MOY: Kevin Cash NL Cy Young: Corbin Burnes MVP: Trea Turner (Bryce Harper gets all the hype but did you see that season Turner had?) ROY: Jonathan India MOY: David Bell. (It’s going to be Kapler, but Bell was equally impressive and deserves some love.)
  23. I just wanted the Yankees to play a tiebreaker with the Jays….
  24. They’re still big spenders. Just because you spend money in multiple stores doesn’t mean you don’t spend it…
