  1. So why not include Moncada, Kopech and Margot?
  2. His defensive numbers were…
  3. I like Alex Gonzalez. He may have been one of the most underrated players on the team in the past 40 years…
  4. So thought? Think a solution similar to NBA free agency is going to be the answer here? Something like after 4 years a player becomes a restricted free agent where hits most recent team can match any offer, and then after 5 or 6 years the player enters unrestricted free agency? If we eliminate the arbitration system as well, does it help or hurt both sides? I know this is a massive oversimplification of NBA free agency, which, along with their salary cap, turns into something more complicated than nuclear physics…
  5. I think any solution I propose will be towards hard core fans. It’s the only mentality I understand.
  6. Just handle it like the 1942 White Sox. They used 41 year old Ted Lyons only on Sundays. Lyons made 20 starts, threw 180 innings and finished 14-6 with a 2.10 ERA. So you just need a pitcher like that…
  7. With more players or the same amount of fatter ones?
  8. I’ve been (ineffectively) advocating for that for years…
  9. Not good enough to get them to the postseason?
  10. Horse crashes?
  11. A televised meal? Watching people dressed like Omega Theta Pi brothers from Animal House drink tea for 20 minutes doesn’t fill my entertainment needs. Unless Joey Chestnut became a cricket player. Then I’m on board with the meal breaks…
  12. Cricket will never catch on in America. Never. First of all, they wear uniforms that look like they can right out of a J Crew catalog. Most American sports uniforms involve some sort of protective gear - padding, helmets, etc. That tells American fans someone might get hurt. Cricket uniforms tell fans that once the match is over, there’s actually a possibility of the bowler heading directly out for cocktails along the Miracle Mile with Daisy Lou. Plus if American fans think a 3 hour baseball game is too long, a cricket match is typically THIRTY HOURS long. They play SIX HOURS A DAY for FIVE DAYS. And pace of play? We just put rules into baseball that you can’t replace the pitcher too often or fans get bored. Well, cricket players break for lunch and again for tea!! Yes, they really do. If watching Alex Cora walk out to the mind twice in an inning is too much for our attention span, exactly how are we supposed to watch a bunch of J Crew sporting social fops drink tea for twenty minutes?!!??
  13. Going with full season but shortened Spring Training…
  14. Yeah Cricket might one day move on from the Willow Channel and maybe get some airtime at 3am on HSN…
  15. But the race itself is very fast paced…
  16. MLB’s biggest problem IMO is their antediluvian blackout policy…
  17. And we’d all be bigger fans of horse racing…
  18. Maybe so more lively promotions, like Butcher Knife Day or Cattle Prod Day or Stranger Things’ Bat Full of Nails Day…
  19. Stop https://glosbe.com/en/en/partial%20negation
  20. Most cheaper tickets are also in parks with teams that have lower payrolls…
  21. So why don’t the teams drawing the lowest numbers simply reduce ticket prices? Clearly they have exceeded the threshold for what people are willing to pay. Some teams will do these type of things at the end of a bad season, notably the White Sox will have some ridiculously cheap prices in August/September if the team is no good. But one thinks a team like the A’s that often does well and draws poorly should simply reduce ticket prices to bolster attendance. While it is true they want to maximize the intake, if nothing else the operating costs to determine the floor for where ticket prices have to be at a minimum. No one can make money if they ignore what it cost to make the product in the first place…
  22. The players don’t care what it costs to win. Ultimately that dis influence what fans have to pay. That’s the difference…
  23. They will not lower ticket prices until absolutely necessary, but the notion that ticket prices are based on “as much fans are willing to pay” is equally incomplete and incorrect. Teams have operating costs that figure into pricing to some extent. Players’ salaries are among those costs…
  24. How many player interests coincide with the fans? Simply put, most owners’ ultimate goal is to win as often as possible while spending as little as possible. This aligns closer to the needs and wants of fans more so than any players’ goal…
  25. The Average Joe also is the one who feels let down by the players clamoring for more money. How many people have you heard make the ridiculous claim about how they’d play for free? I b get very few fans ever liked the owners, which is interesting because the interests of the owners are the closest thing to the interests of the fans…
