  1. They did stop using Ryan Weber as the #3 starter…
  2. Both. Robots criticizing robots.
  3. I think a lot of you are robot critics with programming to highlight the improper calls of the lousier umpires...
  4. With all these 300 IP seasons being mentioned on this thread, are people advocating for robot pitchers?
  5. An obvious Spider Tacker...
  6. Plawecki is really the only non-tender candidate on the Sox, now that they have DFA'd Franchy Cordero and Yacksel Rios...
  7. Potts won't be missed. And it won'r be too hard to find better options from just about any other organzation. Rosario might be more intriguing because his calling card is his defense, and he could slide into a 4th outfielder role for a number of teams. Is he really any worse than, say, Connor Joe?
  8. Not too much of a difference, as we are apart by about 1 in 4 to 1 in 5 chance. But if either is not back, Plawecki is more likely. Backup catcher do play more than other bench players (assuming no injuries), but I doubt Bloom willfully overhauls the starting lineup of the American League runner-ups all that much...
  9. In 1973 and 1974, Nolan Ryan combined for over 650 innings and over 700 strikeouts and didn't throw any knuckleballs...
  10. I'd put the chances at the catchers in 2022 being Vazquez and Plawecki at close to 90%. If anything, maybe the Sox non-tender Plawecki, which might save $2.5-$3mill, minus the cost of his replacement (which might be a minimum wage Wong)...
  11. Nearly all pitchers who threw that many IP threw underhand (up until 1884). The purpose of the pitcher back then was to start the play, not get hitters out. In the Dead Ball Era (1900-1919), only a handful of pitchers topped 400 IP...
  12. Ah, Bid McPhee. Passed away 80 years ago and still tweeting...
  13. If Gurriel made the last out, Baker was going to take out Greinke and let the new pitcher lead off the next inning? Or pinch hit for that pitcher and go through his bullpen even faster?
  14. He could select Jimenez in the draft and then trade him. However, Jimenez' status as a Rule 5 player would follow him to his new team...
  15. Not only did it take the bat out of the hands of the AL batting champ, it also lead to Greinke’s early removal, since he was pinch hit for with two men on base…
  16. Bronson Arroyo needed this advice 15 years ago…
  17. Rest in Peace #2
  18. At some point it becomes important to acknowledge that Renfroe has better postseason numbers than Starlin Marte…
  19. What about Dave Dombrowski, who signed Jimenez as an international free agent? Or Ben Cherington, whose connection to the Sox is really only coincidental here since he had nothing to do with Jimenez? But Cherington's position in Pittsburgh necessitates that he look at just about any player who possesses the skill of playing in MLB for league minimum...
  20. Also the real answer here is - don't get COVID...
  21. That's ok. Tampa will make me an offer as I help them to navigate the post-season...
  22. Agreed. Dalbec’s strong ending actually justifies keeping Casas in the minors for a few months, but his history necessitates making sure Casas is ready. Now if Dalbec does continue to be a monster at the plate, where does that leave Casas?
  23. I don’t consider extending Bogaerts to be either unrealistic or surprising. In fact, I think it will happen. The notion that Bloom hasn’t signed anyone to a big money deal because he only knows how to run Tampa just doesn’t hold water. I think the main reason he has yet to make those type of financial commitments is because he inherited a team with a $240 million dollar payroll, which is probably the highest payroll any GM/Pres of Ops has inherited in MLB history. (And I’m not sure why I even used the word “probably” there.) So signing Semien/Baez/Story - those certainly qualify to me as surprising moves that are realistic. Certainly they are realistic because historically the team has been able to afford those deals, but they also would surprise me because I expect the commitment for 2021 and beyond to be with Bogaerts…
  24. I think nearly every team has a Gilberto Jimenez they debate protecting. He’s probably one of 20 such high risk/high reward A ball players who will be left exposed. Perhaps the success of Baddoo will tempt more teams to take such a risk, but since they definitely won’t all pan out, there’s an equal to greater chance he gets returned, especially if the Sox make for difficult trade partners…
  25. Trading Casas would be either due to faith in Dalbec’s powerful end to his season, or a lack of faith in Casas’ future. That would surprise me to point of questioning if it’s even realistic…
