  1. Preferences aside, a swap of Bogaerts and Houck for Ramirez is certainly reasonable, right? It’s not a question of whether or not you would make that exact trade, but whether or not it’s actually a fair deal for a player you described as Mookie-like…
  2. If only those 2 games were played as a double header at 7 innings apiece...
  3. MLBTR mentioned the Sox in their article about looking for a trade partner. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/10/looking-for-a-match-in-a-willson-contreras-trade.html Per BTV, a deal of Gilberto Jimenez plus Josh Winckowski would be acceptable.. Of course, no idea how the Cubs' personnel feel about those players. Contreras made $6.6mill last year and has one year of arbitration left, which presumably will cost $9mill (Source: None. I made it up.)
  4. Speed is not measured in stolen bases. Speed helps with stolen bases, but there is a lot more at play there than just speed. SBs are their own skillset. And it does seem disingenuous to count Dave Roberts in 2004 but not Danny Santana in 2021. Despite leading the team in steals, Vazquez was the second slowest runner on the 2021 Red Sox, with a speed of 25.2 ft/sec, barely finishing ahead of Travis Shaw (25.1 ft/sec) and being somehow behind Kevin "The Human Glacier" Plawecki. The Sox did have some fast players, with the fastest being Jarren Duran by a lot (29.2 ft/sec), followed by Franchy Cordero, Jose Iglesias, Bobby Dalbec and Christian Arroyo to round out the top 5. Bogaeerts, Renfroe and Kike also all finished above league average, and Verdugo was almost right on the league average. 5. The Sox had 8 baserunners total in the last two playoff games with Houston. The problem wasn't leaving runners on base. It was getting them there in the first place...
  6. Well, one did. After he left the team...
  7. Actually, Bogaerts plus Houck does seem reasonable for Ramires (I mean, beyond the fact that Cleveland would not make the deal). Don't forget it's 2 years of Ramirez at $24mill (which makes him less than one half the cost of Betts at the time of his trade) for one year of a lesser but more expensive player in Bogaerts ($20mill) plus Houck. How does that seem so ridiculous to you? Would you have traded one year of Bogaerts plus Houck for Betts? You did compare the two...
  8. Has thee been any chatter that the Sox will not extend him? I now it is out there that he plans to opt out, which is not exactly surprising news. Chatter or not, he is opting out...
  9. But how many good defensive ones?
  10. OK. Makes more sense than my thinking you meant 36yo Carlos Santana, who is currently on the Royals. Obviously Ramirez would be a major coup. But with 2 years and $24mill left on his deal, Cleveland is in no rush to move him and when they do decide to, there will be no shortage of interested teams. The only way to get him might be to have no prospects that are off limits. BTV allows packages of Casas and Yorke or Mayer, Duran and Bello. Assuming Cleveland likes either package andgets no better offers. Also, small point, but there are no more "Guardians". The name is officially dead and we need to get used to calling them the Guardians...
  11. I don't think it's all that likely. If the Sox had Lester in 2015, I would be very surprised if Dombrowski still did not go out and get Price, whom he did acquire before. More likely, is he did not go after Sale, since that move came later...
  12. Would it make sense?
  13. What Santana are you talking about? There are more guys named Santana on the Red Sox than on the Guardians..
  14. They might be more valuable than 6 years of Seabold...
  15. Do you really think having Lester would have given any pause to Dombrowski when it came to signing Price? He did still go out and get Sale, after all..
  16. Well, we would have missed out on Allen Craig...
  17. I'd rather get the next Mullens than the current one. I agree he does seem lie he just had a great year and might not be so likely to have more. His BABIP last year and the shortened versions of 2020 give e a little cause for alarm...
  18. There really isn't enough of an upgrade justify giving up too many other pieces to get Mountcastle...
  19. Do Duran, Downs and Seabold really all have 18 years combined? It's not the given you think it is...
  20. Point? Think it will stop the conspiracy theories? Not like any of them have ever been based on logic or evidence...
  21. Yes, we could upgrade all the way to the .796 OPS of Mountcastle from the .792 OPS of Dalbec. Is Mountcastle any more of a guarantee to repeat?
  22. Sure. nothing makes game more exciting than watching an umpire ruin your teams season by giving the opponent a fwe extra walks and outs. and the thrill of complaining about it! And the conspiracy theories that ensue. I mean, who doesn't get thrilled by reading all those "The league doesn't want the Yankees to advance" posts?
  23. It's both. They can't get a good angle and the ball is just moving faster and faster. It's just too tough for umpires to be consistent and correct...
  24. I meant who are the Skins. No such team...
  25. I honestly see no reason to protect Ward. He's out until probably at least August, if not beyond. Any team selecting him would have to keep him on the active roster until 1 year after the date when he returns to being an active pitcher again, which puts his "get to keep him" date in late 2023 at the earliest. That seems like a pretty big commitment for a guy with 8 IP above A ball. Certainly there will be other teams with more intriguing and less injured pitching prospects available for the Rule 5 Draft...
