    Per MLBTR, the Astros, Rangers and Yankees have joined the pursuit of Story. The Astros make a ton of sense for so many reasons. The Yankees? Maybe. The Rangers’ entry into this is just making their front office look stupid…

    Opening day? Who knows? That’s one game. Do you think that outfield plus Arroyo at 2b is expected to start 140-150 games? Now if the Sox actually do sign Story, that outfield alignment looks more likely…

    Pham was also horrible last year. Although some of that can probably be attributed to getting stabbed in the off-season. I do think Pham would be a smart short term depth piece. Right now, it looks like Duran is starting and that will be great of he hits. But what is the contingency plan if he doesn’t?

    He is. Kevin Newman is also a better defensive shortstop. If Boston acquired Newman, do you think Bogaerts should change positions to accommodate a guy with a .574OPS? I can see both sides of a Story/Bogaerts case here. But if Boston moves X to 2b, extending him becomes more difficult.

    Arroyo has been a pleasant surprise, but also a durability nightmare. If the Sox don’t land Story, I imagine Arroyo in a platoon with Bradley that involves bouncing Hernandez back and forth between 2b and CF…

    I’m not so sure that’s how any of it played out. For example, last September was the first time Iglesias and Bogaerts played together in Boston. Iglesias was dealt to Detroit 3 weeks before Xander’s MLB debut, and had been playing 3b (brilliantly) to accommodate Stephen Drew. Bogaerts reportedly did tell the Sox he was more comfortable at SS, but by then Iglesias and Drew were both gone, plus Xander did play 3b in the World Series. Story only recently pulled off his adamance at playing SS. And there have been stories for each side about whether or not Bogaerts would move…

    The Braves don’t care about spending? They let one of their most popular players walk away in free agency over barely more than they just spent on Jansen. (Also interesting side note, the Red Sox have outspent the Braves in free agency this off-season.)
