    Context is important here. Yes, 9 teams have more, but 8 of them are the original National League teams which date back to 1876. The American League didn’t get started until 1901, and among those teams, the Sox trail only the Yankees (who also are behind the NL 8). 25 extra seasons is a lot of games. Percentage wise, the Red Sox are 5th, behind the Yankees, Giants, Dodgers and Cardinals.

    Verlander is 0-6 in 7 World Series starts, so maybe that's what they were talking about? He's 8-1 in the DS and 6-4 in the LCS; 7-6 overall with Houston (0-3 in the World Series)

    Totally agree, and I’m certain what happened to Jerry was a big part of Eck’s decision. Family comes first and you can’t get time back.

    Exactly. He’s a good player. He’s not a great one. Expecting him to carry a team is foolhardy.

    It’s a skill set in the sense that some players have the ability to relax in a big moment or not let it overwhelm them, allowing them to perform within the normal parameters of their natural ability. Non-clutch players tense up and thus their natural ability is diminished.

    Based on the 20 day minimum, Cordero did burn an option year this season when he was sent down. Dalbec did not; he was sent down on 9/4 and recalled on 9/22 which is 18 days.

    Rizzuto was one sided, but he was doing home team broadcasts; I’ll liken him to Johnny Most in that regard. This is a National Game. Ravetch hasn’t pretended to be objective in any Red Sox-Yankee game this year.

    The only one in the booth who is at all tolerable is Perez, who at least realizes there are other players on the field. This has been over the top even for ESPN.
