    Fair enough, and no matter what, I hope they never get to the level of the Yankees, who not only retire the numbers of the greats but also the very goods. Bernie Williams was a very good player but there is no reason his number should have been retired.

    The requirement at one time was HOF and ending your career with the Red Sox. The formal requirements were eliminated several years ago. If it were HOF and entire career, only Williams, Yaz, Rice and Doerr would be up there. I know Fisk signed a one day contract with the Red Sox to fulfill that ending career part.

    Maybe, but both he and Wil Fleming have no problem calling out bad play by the Sox, unlike their TV counterparts.

    Radio guys say its the shoulder. With the temp around 50 and damp, might just be precautionary. Unless he takes some time off, its not going to get better

    The two catchers did pretty well at it last year when they were called on to do it. But overall you’re right. This is where they need to do it in the minors. Since every one of them was the best player on their amateur teams, they werent going to learn growing up.

    Unfortunately, history seems to be repeating itself. The Sox won 5 titles between 1903 and 1918. They would not have a .500 season again until 1934. They haven’t been quite as bad as that since 2018, but still …

    Davis is also 24 (will be 25 before the end of the season) and played 3 years of relatively high level college ball at Louisville (probably equivalent to Rookie or Low-A). Mayer just turned 22 and came directly of if HS.
