  1. Surprised that was confirmed. Thought it would just stand.
  2. As Hawk Harrrlson used to say, you can cancel the postgame show.
  3. Yep; they are doing a really good job of making him throw a lot of pitches. Strider OTOH is pounding the zone with nasty stuff.
  4. Actually, the radio guys said before the game started that Schreiber was going only 1 inning.
  5. I believe that is correct, with a limit of 14 pitchers (rest of the season, it's 13). The ability to move guys up and down all month is enhanced greatly by the change to the minor league schedules over the last few years. They used to end right about Labor Day, with their playoffs after that. Now, the AA season stretches until September 17 and the AAA season goes until September 24, so its not like the callups are sitting around all month.
  6. Allowed is the wrong word. The new rules are you have to call up 2 (i.e., all teams are required to have a 28 msn roster in September, no more, no less).
  7. Castiglione and Flemming have been saying he could be back and active tomorrow (Sunday).
  8. At the end of a game, one spot can mean a lot. What I didn’t get was not using Arroyo or Alfaro to hit for Kike. Both have a better chance to get on or even hit one out. Sox had chances to score earlier and failed. That’s where the game was lost.
  9. Leadoff meant nothing at that point. Once Turner made the final out in the 7th, the #9 slot was 7 batters away. Duran’s spot was 8 batters away. Cora put Kike as far down away as he could (I suppose he could have subbed him for Turner in the 2 spot and put Arroyo in the #9 spot.
  10. Moon’s correct comment about you post location aside, Refsnyder hit for Chang in the 7th and drove in the 4th run. Duran singled but was stranded when Turner popped out to end the inning. So for the 8th, Kike goes into the game at short. He either has to go into Refsnyder’s position (9th in the line-up) or you keep Ref in the game and put Kike into Duran’s spot in the order. Cora was gambling on putting Kike as far away from coming up again as possible. Once the Sox stranded 2 on in the 8th, the #1 spot was going to come up.
  11. Players are making Bloom’s choice for him. They have to show him that he should be a buyer. They aren’t.
  12. Not sure why you don’t use Arroyo for Kike there. Christian is at least a threat to run into a ball. Same would apply to Alfaro at that point as well.
  13. He’s had a bad July for sure.
  14. A Fenway double (barely caught the wall), a wild pitch and a well placed grounder. Baseball smh
  15. It is on this board.
  16. Scorers only want to piss off one guy. An error gets both the hitter and the fielder mad; a hit only gets the pitcher upset. Radio guys have been calling out scorers all year. They’ve said multiple times that scorers have been told to err (no pun intended) on the side of offensive stats.
  17. To be fair, Casas doesn’t strike me as a player who wears his emotions on his sleeve.
  18. Bello didn’t have it; it happens to even the best pitchers. One could question his pitch mix early. IMO, he let his emotions get to him. How often do you see great pitchers give up a couple runs in the first or second, then settle down and give up nothing more. Bello never settled down. Worse though was the A’s tried to give them the game and the Sox failed to take it. Raffy’s injury didn’t help this series either. He was so hot in Chicago and we all know what a streaky guy he can be.
  19. Yep. I’ve said it many times. Any pitcher in the major leagues can shut down any team. It’s how often they can do that that separates them. And as Splinter said above, Medina’s stuff is better than his stats.
  20. I’ve heard many times the toughest day on a West Coast trip is the second day.
  21. I know that. Point is you can’t tell squat about a guy over his first few weeks in the majors. Jacques is likely going to be a backend of the pen guy at best. He’s done the job most of the time this year but when he gives up runs, he gives them up in bunches. This game is on the offense and the A’s pitchers have had a bit to do with that. It happens.
  22. Yeah, I guess Roger Clemens could have filled that bill.
  23. What would you call this guy with the following start to his career? 19 2/3 IP, 28 H, 13 ER
