  1. Because it’s not hard for a lefty who is willing to go oppo to flick a ball 320-330 off of or even over the monster. How many times did we watch Boggs and Ortiz and Lynn and Devers do just that? Yaz did it early on as well. A righty who does the same thing to right ends up with an easy fly ball out.
  2. In somewhat of an oddity, it’s the second time this year that Houck and Anderson have combined on a 4-hit shutout of Oakland. In both games, Houck went 6 innings and Anderson 3.
  3. Exactly. Medina held the O’s to 1 run over 5 innings in his last start and only gave up I run in 6 innings against Arizona the time before that. He’s either been very good or very bad.
  4. And other teams do? What in the world are you going to get for Valdez other than a C level prospect who’s still in A ball? Years ago when the team make-up was 15 position players and 10 pitchers, he may have had some value as a pinch hitter, but those days are long gone.
  5. The latter isn’t on the 40 man.
  6. Valdez was sent down today, Westbrook recalled. Aldo, Booser was sent to Worcester; newly acquired Trey Wingenter takes his place. Uwasawa DFAd to make room on the 40 man.
  7. Yep. That pitch was 4-5 inches outside and above the strike zone as well.
  8. Gil may not be all the way back to how he was pitching the first couple months, but tonight he’s not the guy of his last 3-4 starts either.
  9. I know Cora challenged Duran to play every game this year, but his bat looks tired. I could see a day off soon. I know people here hate it, but Tuesday vs. the A’s would give a two for one. Especially since he won’t get the ASB off.
  10. There’s a reason Anderson isn’t used in high leverage situations. He’s there to do what he’s doing today, eat up innings in a blow out. If he holds the other team down, good. If he gets knocked around, doesn’t matter.
  11. He called the pitches, he didn’t throw them.
  12. So they gave up a couple of touchdowns. Know what it means? You add 1 to the loss column.
  13. In honor of John Sterling: “The Yankees lose, the Yankees lose”
  14. Just be glad Soto didn’t get under that one. It still might not have come down.
  15. ESPN play by play says it was hit 405 feet. That was a homer anywhere.
  16. No, even this year, when he’s cooking, he goes to all fields.
  17. I won’t argue that, but it is what it is. I don’t particularly like that aspect of the current game either. I think players make more mental errors now, physical errors have always happened. You’d be shocked at how many errors those decent Sox teams from 1967-80 made. Yoshida !!!!!!!!!!
  18. Is Raffy back to trying to pull everything 500 feet? Sure has looked like it tonight.
  19. I think you have a very inflated view of MLB from yesteryear.
  20. Showing that velocity isn’t everything. Cortes is a pitcher, not a thrower. He’s got 4 pitches, hits the edges, doesn’t walk a lot of people and moves the ball around. One pitch often sets up another.
  21. Not true. Rain delays have always been problematic for pitchers. The longer a rain delay goes, the worse it is. Houck was not sharp tonight, but he still should have been out of the inning allowing only 1 run
  22. Exactly. Even the worst teams are going to win 1 out of 3 games over the course of the season. There’s a site called mlbsweeps.com. In data going back to 1961, only 27.04% of all 3 game series over that time frame have been sweeps. Heck, only 51% of 2 game sets are sweeps. Bottom line, sweeping a team, any team, ain’t easy.
  23. Good baserunning by O’Neill there.
  24. Dave Roberts proved to be some very useful legs in 2004.
