  1. Isn't Lebron James a part of FSG? If he is, I don't see how FSG would be allowed to have an interest in any NBA team, at least until he retires. So maybe we’ve got that going for us.
  2. I don’t think he’s looking for an all positive forum, but you have to acknowledge that there are a few posters here who only come out during losing games and losing streaks. When that game/streak turns around, they crawl back into their caves until the next bad outcome comes around. Give me posters like you and Hugh and Splendid who are here all the time, in good and bad, and who are realistic about how baseball actually works. People who discuss to make a point rather than arguing for the sake of arguing.
  3. I know all that, though I’ll admit I have no memories of the Mercury program as it ended about the time I turned 5. I do remember him being part of the first manned Gemini mission though and obviously he would have been a part of the first Apollo flight had fate not intervened. I remember Virgil “Gus” Grissom very well. My point to Old Red was merely that his attempt at humor using the nickname Gus for Vaughn Grissom was in very poor taste. Now back to your regularly scheduled Red Sox thread; I’ll hijack it no further.
  4. When you play a team is muy importante. Padres are 9-1 over their last 10; they can hit and if their pitching is coming around, they could be a very tough team from here on out. Sox pitching has been bad but the offense has scored 3 runs in the two games, and 2 of those runs were solo homers. That combination is not a recipe for success.
  5. Did Monaco say it or did Middlebrooks?
  6. The first part of your statement (ending in “worse and worse.”) was fine. One can agree or disagree with it as they see fit. Attempting to mock Grissom by using the name of an astronaut killed in the Apollo 1 fire 57 years ago is pathetic.
  7. The attempted humor in that question is in extremely poor taste.
  8. I see the usual suspects showed up as soon as the Sox fell behind. I’m sure they contributed their usual nothing. Splendid, you are not on this list; you are here thick or thin.
  9. Pretty sure virtually all weekday afternoon games at Fenway are on getaway days for the Red Sox. If it’s just the end of a series but the Sox are staying home for another series, then it’s almost always a night game. Obvious exceptions are opening day and a home game on one of the major holidays.
  10. Because Toronto has made a habit of scheduling a night game on getaway day.
  11. Bello needs to be mentally tougher. He can’t fall to pieces every time a play isn’t made behind him. I thought Youkilis(?) made an interesting point when he said he thought Bello is throwing too hard.
  12. Do you come with English subtitles. WTF are you saying?
  13. To be fair though, Schilling wouldn’t become the pitcher we remember for 4 or 5 years after that trade. He did nothing for Baltimore or Houston before landing with the Phils. Boddicker did pretty well for the Sox, going 39-22 with a 3.49 ERA in his 2 1/2 years in Boston and helped win 2 division titles.
  14. It’s more of a European thing I think. I noticed the same thing in Italy a few years ago.
  15. It does follow logically, but how often does a pitcher who goes 6 innings give up exactly 3 earned runs? I’m guessing a lot of the time, said pitcher is allowing 2 or even 1. Any game where he allows 4 earned runs isn’t a quality start and so wouldn’t be included in those calculations. I’ve referred before to a game I listened to in 1974 against the Angels. It illustrates the absurdity of the definition of a quality start. Nolan Ryan pitched 13 innings for California and allowed 3 runs. Quality start by any definition you could come up with. Luis Tiant allowed 4 runs, going the distance and pitching 14 1/3 innings. That’s not considered a quality start. The best that can be said about a quality start is that by allowing 3 earned runs or less over 6 innings, a starter has given his team a decent chance at a win.
  16. Forgot about that; that’s probably it. Tough part is the 10 day thing though.
  17. When you send a guy down, he has to stay 10 days unless there’s an injury. And it has to be pitcher for pitcher, position player for position player. Rule came in a couple years ago to stop some of the yo-yoing.
  18. No he wasn’t. Heineman was recalled for that. Campbell and Winckowski up, Booser and Keller down. Keller I get, Booser I don’t. He’s pitched decently
  19. What was it I heard yesterday, 9 straight series between these two teams have been sweeps?
  20. With the K, both (and all future runs this inning) are unearned to the team. Devers compounds the inning.
  21. Meh. Can’t blame him for the Valdez error that set this whole inning up.
  22. Saw an interesting video yesterday on how the box on tv is inaccurate. Side to side was fine, since it’s two fixed points. Up and down is terrible, especially on the upper part, because the zone is batter dependent but they never adjust it on television.
  23. He’s trying to hit everything 500 feet again. The way the ball is flying tonight isn’t going to help that mentality.
  24. Yeah, that’s why I deleted the post you responded to; he’s not worth it.
