The first part is easy. Player come in as a pinch runner and the team bats around until the pr’s slot in the batting order comes up. The second part, I remember it happening but I can’t recall the player. In this case, he obviously ran for the DH, which is why he didn’t take the field. -
One has to ask, do we want Mayer and Anthony anywhere near the losing mentality of the major league team?

They’ve played that well for the last 1/2 season if you go back to last year. They finished 2024 by going 31-13, so they are now 61-28 since last August 10th (postseason excluded but they went 4-3 there as well). -
Mike Lowell was on a podcast the other day and was asked several questions about Devers and 1st base. He said he (Lowell) thought that Devers’ ceiling was possibly gold glove level (I’m not sure I believe that, but since Lowell was a Gold Glover and most assuredly I was not, I’m in no position to dispute it). He was also asked how long he thought it would take Devers to learn 1st Base; his answer was about 2 days, and yes, there would be some errors the first 2-3 weeks. The host also asked Lowell how long he thought it would take a guy like Bryce Harper to adapt; he said 2 weeks because Harper was an outfielder. It sounds like the point is moot, but an interesting perspective from a guy who’s been there.

You have absolutely no idea what moon’s baseball background is or anyone else’s for that matter. Most played the game at some point at varying levels. They just don’t feel the need to post a condescending argument from authority (allegedly, we have no idea if you are being truthful about your background or not) the length of a novel every time to boast about it. I’ve yet to see a single post from you where you agree with anyone. You have some good points at times, but your nose is so high in the air you can’t see that others may have some too.

A hit pisses off less people. If you give an error, the pitcher is happy but the hitter and fielder are not; you give a hit, and the later two are happy and the pitcher is mad.

I always liked the concept of a team error for situations like that. Another example would be the outfielder making an accurate throw attempting to nail a runner that ends up hitting the runner and bouncing away, allowing another base. The outfielder did nothing wrong, the infielder did nothing wrong, but the extra base has to be accounted for.

Agree on the groundout but: “A fly ball could lead to a runner advancing or it may not.” In what universe is that outcome less preferable to a strikeout? At worst, it’s status quo and next batter up.

What can Cora do? Chapman’s the only one who has even come close to being consistent. Bernardino has been good lately, including some leverage appearances. Not even close with his pitches tonight. Still, have to tip you hat to Sale tonight. He was really good.

Since Duran never got off the base at all, I’m guessing Devers went in his own. Might have been worth the attempt had Sale gotten to 2 strikes on Refsnyder, but not on the first pitch.

For one thing, he should be batting much lower in the lineup; he certainly should not be hitting cleanup. Maybe you should go back a couple decades and take a look at how Pedroia started out his first 50-55 career games over the last month of 2006 and the first month of 2007. That .190 batting average just screamed future Rookie of the Year, MVP and All-Star, didn’t it? I’m not saying Campbell become a Pedroia type player. I am saying you can’t tell jack from a player’s first couple months, and any fan who thinks they can has an extremely overrated view of themselves.

Pitchers have adjusted to him; he now has to adjust to what they’re doing. That’s not going to happen in AAA.

Could be a couple reasons for that: 1) The modern day reliever seems to have difficulty finishing an inning, sitting for 10 minutes, then going back out. I don’t get it; these guys were all starting pitchers as amateurs, but it is what it is. 2) The 3 batter minimum rule. A reliever can finish an inning and not have to face 3, but if he comes out for the start of the next inning, he has to. Righty-lefty numbers probably play a role here. I don’t like it, but it’s modern baseball theory; Cora is hardly the only manager doing it.
