  1. I’d use Casas. He’s hitting like a pitcher, so why not.
  2. I’m not normally a “send em a message” type but I’d send him further down than that. I’m thinking Salem.
  3. Plus both hits off Whitlock were ground balls. You might, repeat, might, have a complaint about removing Crochet, but that’s modern baseball strategy. Plus like you said, it’s not as if he brought in the 13th guy on the staff.
  4. Not much you can do on ground ball hits. Especially after you’ve struck somebody out.
  5. Wind definitely a factor though. Kept it from going 10 rows back and it looked like it kept pushing the ball away. You take the break when you get it.
  6. Why do people think he can manage? Does he even want to? I’d prefer he get some experience with some other club first. Other than being in the Mariner farm system more than a quarter century ago, he’s never even been associated with another organization. It would be best if he were exposed to at least one.
  7. I’ll join Brock in saying welcome. Now, to break you in. What would you have done differently than Cora yesterday? Fitts has to go out with a shoulder injury. You have to use the pen. Robert was an all-star two years ago when he hit 38 homers. Not exactly a shock he might hit one. As I said earlier, he can also run and stealing off Chapman is not difficult. Bad teams still have a few good players. This streak is on the offense; you don’t win many games scoring 2 runs or less every game, which is what they’ve done since last Sunday night. Cora’s abilities as a player have nothing to do with his managing. He was a decent utility type who carved out 14 years in the majors. He wasn’t good, he wasn’t bad, but he knew his role and performed in that role pretty well. You’ll also find most major league managers were not good or great players. As for what you hear central New York, well, nobody here cares what they say there. The Yanks have been cheating for decades.
  8. More likely Bello. He pitched 4 innings last night, so he’d be close to being on normal rest come Thursday. He probably had 1 more start in Worcester anyway before coming off rehab.
  9. Either that or the shift didn’t allow someone to get there. Realistically, it probably made no difference; Chapman is incredibly easy to run on for a left hander, and Robert has as many steals as Story this year. We’re not talking Casas speed here. Still comes down to the offense (or non-offense to be accurate).
  10. I’d consider sending him down farther than that. The guy thinks too much and is a total head case. Perhaps a month in Salem might be good for him.
  11. I for one would be fine if Abreu turned out to be a Trot Nixon. I recall years ago saying I hoped JBJ could be a Rick Miller. He exceeded him in the field but at the plate …
  12. Do you run here and take the bat out of Rafi’s hands? Edit- that didn’t age well.
  13. You’d have bunted with Rafaela. Okay, 2nd and 3rd one out. Do you think Sabol’s AB would have gone any differently?
  14. This game has all the earmarks of a 1-0 final with a right handed Blue Jay hitter hitting one off the end of the bat off the Pesky Pole for the 1.
  15. Thats the problem, they are all trying to hit 3 run jacks. 3 hits in an inning would be a better goal.
  16. I didn’t read much about spring training nor pay much attention to it, but I do know he was delayed getting to Florida and then HE pushed his start date back even further. There’s been no mention of injury and we know he wasn’t happy about being moved off of 3rd. I don’t put pouting out of the question.
  17. Can’t complain about the pitching in this series. 13 runs in 4 games; I’ll take that all season. Devers pouting all spring training is going to be a factor for a while; he’s never been a fast starter, and now essentially he’s in Ft. Myers mode. Bright side is he only struck twice today.
  18. The veteran saw the kid swinging at a lot of ball 4s and took advantage of it. Kid will learn.
  19. Looked pull happy to me. He generally doesn’t look good in that mode.
