  1. Now to be fair, the dropped third strike only helps if the first baseman is involved.
  2. Moon, you left out the Fenway Green sarcasm font.
  3. Has anyone ever seen a ball actually hit the ladder? I know I never had, and I’ve been watching since the late 60s.
  4. On replay, it looked like the throw took a high hop, which may have made a difference on Hamilton’s tag attempt. Moot anyway, Mets didn’t score.
  5. Lindor was stealing second. Pitch was a good strike down and away. Not borderline at all. Umpire called it a ball. Buehler at first was dumbfounded and then said something (I’m not JomBoy, I have no idea what). Umpire yanks his mask off and comes out 1/3 of the way to the mound, telling Buehler to get back on the mound (IMO, he had already decided to toss Buehler, he just needed to provoke things a little). Buehler said one more thing (might have been you get back to the plate) and got tossed. Cora wasn’t long for the game after that either.
  6. This isn’t going to be the last Sox player run tonight. Estabrook is one of those umps with a short fuse and a long memory. He’s still glaring at the Sox dugout.
  7. I’d like to see Bernardino take about 1/2 hour to warm up here. Estabrook wants to escalate things, let him sit back there and stew.
  8. I know you and I have had our differences here, but I gotta give you props for this one.
  9. Oh, so now we can’t comment on a public post? Take it to PM if you don’t want others weighing in. The FACT is moon did not mention a timeframe. The FACT that you introduced one says a couple things: 1) You know he has a point 2) You can’t admit someone else has a valid point, so you had to introduce something in a pathetic effort try and negate said point. You have some of the thinnest skin I’ve seen on these boards. But by all means, keep that nose in the sky since you think you are so vastly superior to everyone here. Go ahead, flame away.
  10. You are correct this topic has been beaten to death. However, I can’t let your first point go by without stating the obvious: nowhere did moon say a year. He said number of plays; there was no time reference. That was something you added. For someone who has chided others on reading comprehension, you blew that one professor.
  11. No, Castillo actually saw the field in Pawtucket. Yoshida hasn’t played in a game yet this season
  12. The first part is easy. Player come in as a pinch runner and the team bats around until the pr’s slot in the batting order comes up. The second part, I remember it happening but I can’t recall the player. In this case, he obviously ran for the DH, which is why he didn’t take the field.
  13. One has to ask, do we want Mayer and Anthony anywhere near the losing mentality of the major league team?
  14. With all due respect moon, I did not think it possible for a poster to consistently make you seem pithy.
  15. It’s now the 8th, but in my mind, there are two ways to go with Bello: 1) Tell him he’s going 7 innings today. You can give up 20 runs and throw 250 pitches, I don’t care, you are going all 7. 2) Send him to Salem (not Worcester or Portland). You want to pitch like an A-ball pitcher, we’ll accomodate you..
  16. Giolito should be his own long man tonight; no sense wasting whatever the pen has with Bello going tomorrow.
  17. Whatever the numbers are, it is surely greater than the zero that goes with a K.
  18. They’ve played that well for the last 1/2 season if you go back to last year. They finished 2024 by going 31-13, so they are now 61-28 since last August 10th (postseason excluded but they went 4-3 there as well).
  19. Mike Lowell was on a podcast the other day and was asked several questions about Devers and 1st base. He said he (Lowell) thought that Devers’ ceiling was possibly gold glove level (I’m not sure I believe that, but since Lowell was a Gold Glover and most assuredly I was not, I’m in no position to dispute it). He was also asked how long he thought it would take Devers to learn 1st Base; his answer was about 2 days, and yes, there would be some errors the first 2-3 weeks. The host also asked Lowell how long he thought it would take a guy like Bryce Harper to adapt; he said 2 weeks because Harper was an outfielder. It sounds like the point is moot, but an interesting perspective from a guy who’s been there.
  20. You have absolutely no idea what moon’s baseball background is or anyone else’s for that matter. Most played the game at some point at varying levels. They just don’t feel the need to post a condescending argument from authority (allegedly, we have no idea if you are being truthful about your background or not) the length of a novel every time to boast about it. I’ve yet to see a single post from you where you agree with anyone. You have some good points at times, but your nose is so high in the air you can’t see that others may have some too.
  21. A hit pisses off less people. If you give an error, the pitcher is happy but the hitter and fielder are not; you give a hit, and the later two are happy and the pitcher is mad.
  22. I always liked the concept of a team error for situations like that. Another example would be the outfielder making an accurate throw attempting to nail a runner that ends up hitting the runner and bouncing away, allowing another base. The outfielder did nothing wrong, the infielder did nothing wrong, but the extra base has to be accounted for.
  23. Agree on the groundout but: “A fly ball could lead to a runner advancing or it may not.” In what universe is that outcome less preferable to a strikeout? At worst, it’s status quo and next batter up.
