  1. Do you understand the concept of a seperate admission doubleheader? You have to clear the park, the parking lot, clean up and then start the whole process of letting people who have tickets to the night game into the park. And it is utterly unfair to those who do hold tickets to the night game to start it earlier on late notice. As I pointed out previously (which you would have seen if you actually read the thread), if tonight is rained out, they will probably just do this dance tomorrow. Monday is an off day, so no big deal. Plus they are in Philadelphia on Tuesday and Wednesday; thaey will almost certainly be taking a charter bus there. So no travel issues. Or they could play the make-up on Monday or Thursday (off days for both teams), again with minimal travel issues.
  2. Logistically, that would be tough to do on short notice. Have to clear the park and parking lot, clean up, bring in the new "crowd"., etc. Also not fair to those who do hold tckets to the night game to switch start times at the last second. Plus, the key was getting one in today. If tonight is rained out, they can play 2 tomorrow (off day Monday, so no big deal) or they could play Monday or Thursday (off days for both teams, and with the Sox in Philly on Tuesday and Wednesday, minimal travel isuues).
  3. Davis’ contract goes through 2022.
  4. Also, last night's result offically eliminated the Orioles from winning the division
  5. Doubleheader means they can bring up a 26th man for today only. I assume it will be activate Sale and Workman stays for today, then goes back to Pawtucket
  6. Pomeranz was the pitcher when the Sox took the lead, so it would be him.
  7. Need one more runner to give JBJ a shot at the cycle.
  8. I'm going with the guy who is getting people out tonight. This is too crazy a game.
  9. I would seriously consider keeping Brasier in to pitch the 8th and 9th (he'd even get a save for the effort).
  10. Panic time; the Sox may lose 2 straight or, gulp, play .500 ball for a couple weeks.
  11. There have been 22 cycles in Red Sox history; Betts is the 21st player to do it (Bobby Doerr did it twice). Here's the list of players who have hit for the cycle for the Red Sox: Mookie Betts, Aug. 9, 2018 Brock Holt, June 16, 2015 John Valentin, June 6, 1996 Scott Cooper, April 12, 1994 Mike Greenwell, Sept. 14, 1988 Rich Gedman, Sept. 18, 1985 Dwight Evans, June 28, 1984 Fred Lynn, May 13, 1980 Bob Watson, Sept. 15, 1979 Carl Yastrzemski, May 14, 1965 Lou Clinton, July 13, 1962 Bobby Doerr, May 13, 1947 Ted Williams, July 21, 1946 Bob Johnson, July 6, 1944 Bobby Doerr, May 17, 1944 Leon Culberson, July 3, 1943 Joe Cronin, Aug. 2, 1940 Moose Solters, Aug. 19, 1934 Roy Carlyle, July 21, 1925 Tris Speaker, June 9, 1912 Patsy Dougherty, July 29, 1903 Buck Freeman, June 21, 1903
  12. I remember watching the game that Holt hit for the cycle in, it was about 3 years ago. What is forgotten about that game is that the Red Sox almost had 2 players hit for the cycle that night. Mookie had a single, double and triple. Right after Holt completed his cycle with a triple, Betts came up with needing a homer to also accomplish the feat. He flied out as I recall. I don't think two players hitting for the cycle in one game has ever been done. To have the possibilty of 2 guys hitting back to back in the line-up do it is mind boggling.
  13. Now you use Brasier to finish up.
  14. Bogaerts seems to be reverting to last year, taking a lot of first strikes. No so much taking, but not even looking like he's going to swing.
  15. Depends if they score or not. If they do, yes. If not, you need 6 outs which makes it harder to use Thornburg. Probably Blaser in that case.
  16. That was Kelly's run in the 7th.
  17. Right now, 43 for the division, 36 for the playoffs.
  18. I think you have your answer.
  19. Nah, this one was actually hit hard. Sunday's was a 27 hopper.
  20. So Friday was it the Yankee hitters or was it Porcello? Strohman was really good tonight.
  21. Holt in the midst of his annual second half swoon.
  22. Best hope for the Sox is Gibbons overmanaging and bringing the Jays' pen into play. They aren't going to touch Strohman.
  23. Kelly made it worse, but Benintendi set that run up.
  24. Got to wonder about Bogies wrist.
  25. Strohman has had more than a little to do with that; he has been very good tonight.
