  1. All that can be said about this game is all the warts showed up tonight. Frankly, I’d rather they all be at once rather than crappy starting pitching one game, lousy relief pitching a different night and no offense a third, which could mean 3 Ls instead of 1.
  2. He makes the plays on the balls he gets to. But he doesn't to as many as most other guys. Many of the spectacular plays we see would be a lot more routine for better fielders (hmm, sound like anyone we mocked for years and years).
  3. You’re going to have to give up something for Renfroe. The Padres aren’t the 1950s KC Athletics. What reasonable deal would you make?
  4. 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018 all happened on FOX but I get your sentiment.
  5. So who goes to make room? Velazquez or Wright would seem to be the leading candidates,
  6. You do realize Vazquez can’t catch every game, right?
  7. Cashner is 9-3 with A sub 4 ERA and averages 6 innings per start for the effing Orioles. I know W-L isn’t that important but the O’s have won like 30 games all year. Who cares if he doesn’t strike people out, he’s getting opponents out at a pretty decent rate.
  8. Actually, it would mean he’d been traded. Rochester was the O’s AAA team for forever but it’s been a Twins affiliate for at least 15 years now.
  9. Ryan was a freak of nature. Yes, he could throw 100+. WHEN HE WANTED TO. But he didn't try to throw every pitch that hard. That's the difference between today's "pitchers" and the guys from years ago. I recall a game against the Red Sox where he threw something like 230 pitches over 13 innings (in the same game, Luis Tiant was a complete game loser in a 15 inning Angel win).
  10. That's not going to keep us under the second tier. Castillo is owed around $25 million through 2021 and the second he is brought up to the majors, it goes against the Sox cap if we are eating the salary. The only way he goes anywhere is if the other team takes the whole contract and that's not going to happen at his cost.
  11. Exactly. Price is the only one who even merited some consideration, and his case isn't a real strong one.
  12. Why bother? That’s more than a 50% cut, which is not an offer, it’s an insult. Take the high road, thank him for 4 years and move on.
  13. They almost have to play tonight. The alternatives suck. It's either a day-night doubleheader tomorrow or a traditional doubleheader tomorrow. The 2 teams have only one common off day the rest of the year, August 26, and the Sox are in San Diego on the 25th and at Colorado on the 27th.
  14. Keep them out of both games tomorrow?
  15. I prefer that to a walk. All that happens is you start the inning over. Nobody out, nobody on.
  16. Betts and Bradley were physical errors. They happen. ERod has forgotten to cover first many times over his career. That’s a mental error that should never happen, much less happen repeatedly.
  17. He’s saved more than his share of runs and in some cases, games (Baltimore earlier this year comes to mind). Physical errors happen. It’s the mental ones that should never occur.
  18. Who are you going to trade that won’t weaken one or more other positions? Minors are barren. Pretty sure John Henry has said spend no more $$, so his hands are tied on the free agent front.
  19. Had to lose it in the lights or a reflection of light off the wet seats.
  20. I can’t do it; I’m hardwired to want them to lose every game.
  21. I have to admit, I was hoping ERod would end up throwing a one hit complete game with his failure to cover first base on the first hitter of the game costing him the no-hitter.
  22. With this pen, is that even metaphysically possible?
  23. I know there are guidelines the umps follow, like waiting at least 30 minutes, but so long there is a reasonable chance of resuming, they will wait.
  24. Did New Jersey finally switch to allowing self-serve?
  25. Cora needs to go to the mound and tell Brewer he’s in for the duration.
