  1. Me? Devers (1.783 OPS), Whitlock (8K 0BB) and Houck (1H 1BB 5K)
  2. You'd rather see us looking bad?
  3. Better than nothing. Better than Mata.
  4. Top Remaining Free Agents (for what it's worth) Montgomery & Snell Clevinger, Lorenzen Bauer, Greinke, Cueto, Syndergaard, Lauer Duvall, Michael A Taylor, Tommy Pham, R Grossman JD Martinez (I might have missed a few.)
  5. Grapefruit League 8-1 BAL (+18 Run Diff) 6-3 BOS (+6) 4-2 PHI (+8) 4-3 NYY (+19) 5-4 HOU (+1) Cactus 8-2 LAD (+36) 6-2 TEX (+18) 7-3 COL (+14) 7-3 KCR (+4)
  6. The 27 and under Roster & Farm The "short list:" SP Bello, Crawford, Houck, Whitlock, Winckowski RP Murphy, Campbell, Fitts, Slaten, Sandlin, Mata, Walter, Perales, Wikelman C Teel, Wong, Joh Garcia 1B Casas, Jordan 2B Grissom, EValdez SS Mayer, Cespedes, Romero 3B Devers, Meidroth LF Duran, Zanetello, Castro CF Anthony, Rafaela RF Abreu, Bleis DH Yorke, Hickey
  7. He's not really spending less than before, even counting inflation. The problem arose when numerous teams decided to spend real big. The 2018-2019 seasons were the peak of big spending, but he was able to get to glory without spending like a maniac. I'm not defending JH. I think and wish he'd spend more, now and going forward. I don't see how signing Monty would wound his finances to a noticeable point If the plan is to double splurge in a year or two, I can stomach this, but I have serious doubts.
  8. I'd be surprised, but it does seem possible. We've still been spending a lot of money. Since 2019, we are a top 6-8 spending team. Since 2022, we are a top 9-11 spending team. It's not like we tried to totally tank, like other teams have. The many last place finishes suck, but we haven't really been a bottom 10 team, very often. Not that that should be the measuring stick. I'm hopeful we can reach glory, again, sometime, soon. We have some very promising young players and soon-to-be young players joining the 26 and 40. We have a good chance at being very good, again, and soon, if we can just get the pitching staff jacked up, somehow.
  9. I was thinking Chapman has more years, but yes, the opt out makes t0hem about the same. I'd still take the pitcher, and the choice isn't even close. Even if we could dump Yoshida's full deal in a trade, I'd take Gio, every day. I'm not even a Gio fan.
  10. So, 3 positional changes and a trade to make room for 1 guy. Why so complicated?
  11. I'd rather have Gio than Chapman, and the money isn't even a close match. I'd rather have Monty over Chapman or Monty over Chapman & Gio.
  12. If those moves improved the LF and 1B defense, maybe, but even still, that's a lot of moves to make for 1 guy's addition. There are better ways to spend our limited funds.
  13. You got it... 10+ PAs 1.783 Devers 1.512 Sogard 1.056 Kolozsvary 1.031 Refsnyder 1.000 McDonough .864 Westbrook .856 Rafaela .833 Wong .812 Dalbec .740 Reyes .733 Story .714 Contreras .599 Meidroth .585 O'Neill .539 Gonzalez .533 Yorke .473 Rosier .371 Abreu .308 DHam 4+ IP 0.00 Houck (1H 1BB 5K) 0.00 Murphy (3H 0BB 4K) 2.25 Criswell (5H 1BB 4K) 3.60 Bello (1H 2BB 2HBP 5K) 3.60 Whitlock (4H 0BB 8K) 8.31 Giolito (2H 4BB 2K) Selected others 3-3.2 IP 0.00 Guerrero, Campbell, Hagenman, Slaten, Weissert 2-2.2 IP 0.00 Pivetta & Denlinger
  14. Houck K'd 5 in 6 IP (1 hit, 1 BB, 0 ER) Bello was a bit shaky (2 ER in 3IP, but just 1H and 1BB) Coffey & MIller w dingers. Devers 2-3, bringing his ST OPS to 1.783. Sox won 4-2. They are now 5-3. Better than losing.
  15. You are only allowed to criticize the FO on approved subjects.
  16. I doubt it goes to 7, even if you count 2021 as a "punt."
  17. Of course, I prefer Rafaela in CF over everyone else, but if the plan was to start him in AAA, I'd rather have him at 2B than Reyes or Eavldez or DHam.
  18. If Grissom starts on the IL, I'd go with Rafaela as the starting 2Bman. If he'll just miss 2-3 games, I might still do it.
  19. "Full throttle" sounded like spending money, now. This statement, at least, explained what the current plan was, in detail, and gave a reason why they were not going to spend large on pitching, now. Yes, it says they are "punting," but they never really came out and said it, so detailed and clearly, IMO, as this did. They previously hinted that the here and now mattered and was a priority.
  20. At least this sounded like thruth-telling without a lot of fluff and diversions. The thing is, it's kind of admitting they want to experiment on some guys we have in the system, already, to see what we have and what we need going forward. It sounds like they know this is a punt season, unless everything works out.
  21. Grissom is likely to miss opening day... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/vaughn-grissom-likely-to-miss-opening-day-due-to-groin-strain.html
  22. Apparently, the Giants are still in on Snell.
  23. “Some of those are pursuits that we didn’t line up on, some of them are driven by wanting to give every chance to these young guys to take a step forward,” Breslow said. “I think the blueprint that has been successful here for this ownership group for two decades has been developing homegrown talent and supplementing that talent with not just free agents, but impact, starpower free agents. I think that’s the model we’re going to attempt to replicate given how well it’s worked. But all of those things need to line up, both in terms of player interest and also timelines. “I don’t think I’m saying anything that fans and listeners wouldn't know, which is that we have not had the splashy free agent signing (this offseason),"
  24. The Brez speaks... https://www.audacy.com/weei/sports/red-sox/craig-breslow-explains-red-sox-reluctance-to-sign-starters?fbclid=IwAR2TvpFj6vlwXywevmCraSqvu12LLj7NZCbqEIAzU-QpIP61MQM1FqeMoWs We’re trying to build out an infrastructure and trying to understand what we have with guys like Tanner Houck and Garrett Whitlock and Josh Winckowski and Kutter Crawford."
