  1. Nobody knows fo4r sure, how the Sale-Grissom deal will work out. There are some wild variables involved. Basically, it's... $17M for Sale to pitch, not pitch or pitch a little with ATL vs $27M for the same with us. $10M more to spend or for JH to pocket. 6 years of a recently graduated top prospects with a nice upside bat and unknown abilities on D at 2B. Maybe he ends up near average on D and can improves over the following 5 years- maybe not. This looks like a pretty even deal that could go one way or another in a big way, but for the Sox, it could be for 6 good to great years. If he sucks, we cut him after 1-2 years. I think that shifts the balance to BOS. If we use the $10M wisely, even better.
  2. I think the GM can make minor moves, pretty much on his own, and Bloom & Brez have done that, quite a bit. Trading Sale, and to a lesser degree Dugo, probably involved approval. Supposedly, Bloom had approval to trade Sale, before and stopped short. It appears Brez is more decisive. Let's hope that's a good thing.
  3. Presumably, the "market rate" is the top bid. Maybe JH does not realize that is what that means.
  4. Why stop there? Go back another year: ERA/FIP 1st 10 '22: 3.88/4.41 (add 1 game: 4.78/4.84 2nd 10 '22: 5.94/4.13 Take away that one game: 5.06/3.57) 3rd 10 '22: 4.88/3.65 1st 11 '23: 3.98/4.17 2nd 11 '23: 3.71/4.89 3rd 11 '23: 7.14/6.88 5/12 bad 4/12 ok-good 3/12 good-very good

  6. I think maybe you are not so down on losing out on Imanaga, because you are rather high on Stroman.
  7. So, who takes Toboni's place? Did not the MIA director of player development get let go, recently?
  8. The worst part is, there is no GM to be an assistant to. I guess each could be in charge of a separate task or set of tasks. I hope not all of them need to come to consensus to get anything major done.
  9. Full throttle voting!
  10. Load 'em up and trade them at the deadline. Go WOO! Go Sea Dogs!
  11. The solution to too many talking heads is to add another one to make it an odd number, so they can stop having tie votes that have been paralyzing their decision-making process.
  12. Word is, the Imanaga contract is set up very differently, with various escalators and possible opt-outs. Apparently, only about $80M guaranteed. We'll get the details, later. Contract pending physical.
  13. It's the perfect contract.... for Gio. Concerns about his last 2 year numbers made the 4 year offers, if there were any, lower than he hoped for. $19M/1 if we pitches well. $37M/2, if he does poorly. (Wow! We get him at $18M year 2, if he does badly.) If he does poorly in 2025, too, we better make sure he doesn't pitch 140 innings, of he gets another $19M or a $1.5M buyout.
  14. One more asst GM and no GM.
  15. It looks like offering Gray $80M/3 might have been the best, "We shoulda, coulda..." (Not sure we'd have gotten him for that.)
  16. So, Monty to NYY (unless they trade for Cease?), Snell to SFG?, Stroman to LAA and Clevinger or Paxton to BOS?
  17. He certainly was near the top in risk factor.
  18. I'm not sure this guy was the best SP'er for the money, but we could have afforded anybody, so far, except maybe Yamo.
  19. Well said. Devers: Highest paid Sox player ever, and by $83M! Story: 4th highest AAV ever given to a Sox player (31 Price, 31 Devers & 29 by Sale) Yoshida: 9th highest amount paid for any Sox player- counting fees: (All over $100M) Devers Price AGon Crawford Sale Story JD Dice-K Yoshida
  20. Looks like another rich guy gets off the hook. Julio Urias will not face felony charges: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/01/l-a-district-attorneys-office-will-not-file-felony-charges-against-julio-urias-case-referred-for-misdemeanor-consideration.html
  21. If there were 15- trained Reds and Dales watching every game, every day and entering their eye test information, consistently and in an unbiased manner, it would be worth much more than just one of you saying Bogey is a better than average defensive SS.
  22. LOL. Seriously, it was all Cora's call.

  24. I would say we'll make a trade, but I have no expectations of anything good happening.
  25. How many scouts rely on watching TV to make evaluations of player's skills? Hell, they rely more on radar guns and stats like On base % than TV highlights.
