Kicking in money for Gray, and we can count it as ATL paying it, might not make much of a difference to teams like LAD or SDP, but it might entice a lower budget team to do something they'd never have dreamed of, since they have been out of the playoffs for 9 of the last 10 deadlines- trade for an ace.
To me, expanding the number of bidding teams will increase the chances some team grossly overpays for Gray. Hell, someone might even overpay for Sandoval (with cash paid), if he keeps looking like the same guy as 4-5 years ago. Someone might even kick the tires on Bello, if we add some cash for him, too. Same for Chapman and his contract.
