  1. Or Duran. Should we extend Tolle, Early and or Bennett?
  2. They are 9th in pitching fWAR, so despite what Fred says, you can win with better pittchig and bad offense.
  3. If it's Masa's bat vs Story's that's a significant bump up. If the infield defense improves by a little and the OF D gets worse, maybe it's a net plus- maybe.
  4. But Rafaela probably is better at infield defense than Story. The downgrade in OF defense may outweigh the better infield, but the infield gets more action.
  5. To me, Romero is barely top 20, and Bleis is not even top 30. I'd put Godbout top 8-10. Cespedes and YRod are doing their best to jump up.
  6. Brannon has had 9 total bases for two straight games!
  7. That's what typically happens with the Sox- it seems.
  8. The team is 8-6 in their last 14. That's the best cherry-pick timeframe for the season. If we continue that pace, we'd end up at 87 wins. I don't see us playing like an 87 win team. Hell, we played like a sub .500 team, even in the last 14 games. We only have slim hopes because the league sucks.
  9. To me, his biggest defensive issue was an inaccurate arm, which can be hidden at 1B. For a big guy, he seemed to have pretty quick reflexes and footwork. I think that after some time at 1B, he could have become a near average defensive 1Bman. As bad as Casas was at 1B defense, I would have told Devers to play 1B not DH, after the Bregman addition. At least tell him he might be used at 1B and DH. It's too late, now, of course. It's way too early to judge Devers' defense at 1B, as he is still adjusting and not really playing there FT. -1 DRS at 1B in 400+ innings.
  10. Apparently, they did not want Duran and bello then. They won't now.
  11. The thing is the AL sucks. If all our players play like last year or the last 2-3 years, we'd be doing better than now, which is like 2-3 GB the 5 slot. My hopes do not spring from any sense that this team is loaded or has shown signs of life. The hope I have left is because I know the AL is bad, and 3 of the top 6 teams look the same or worse on paper than many teams below them, including the Sox. I'm not expecting some mid season or deadline trade to save us, either, nor the return of Crawford or Sandoval to health, let alone their top form. We'd need Crochet, for sure. We'd need Chapman, Whitlock & Slaten to be healthy and pitch like they have recently. Suarez like the last 2-3 years. Early and Tolle to replace Bello. Maybe 1-2 guys can play worse, but just about everyone else has to do like their last 2-3 years or better.
  12. It's weird that YRod batted 9th.
  13. Most of our players are pre-prime and prime. I'd think the odds would be more in favor of them mostly improving on the recent histories, but that certainly hasn't been the case, so far. One of our oldest players, Contreras, is one of the few meeting or exceeding expectations. I'm not sure even getting back to the norm from everybody will be enough, unless Crochet is part of that idea.
  14. I know the other choices look lame, but Story has been about as bad as can be. Mayer can play SS and we can go with the carousel at 2B once again. Monasterio, IKF, Seigler, Cheng, KC, Romero, Sogard (Eaton at 3B and Durbin at 2B?) I'd mention Arias, but I'm not sure about that one. I'd avoid Rafaela at 2B, but at this point, WTH.
  15. Do you expect Sox players to end up where they have been in the past few years?
  16. Gamboa pitched well, today. Eyanson went 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1BB, 4K, but Arias and Brannon stole the show. Brannon went 4 for 4, with an HR and 2 Dbls. He also walked once. Arias went 4-5 w a DBL, and his OPS jumped to 1.143. YRod homers while GRE scored 11 runs, but they let up 14. SAL won 13-3 and Nunez and Heyman both homered in back to back games.
  17. If this game has not convinced us all that Story is no help, nothing will.
  18. He was someone I mentioned often, despite being about as bad as Devers at 3B defense. He's at .663.
  19. Bregman has not hit .800 in 4 seasons. 3 of 6 seasons, counting 2026. Since 2020, he's hit over .804 just twice- once in a shortened 2025 season.
  20. I was speaking about head to head with the TBR. Now: 25-13 TBR 17-22 BOS -8.5 Assume we beat TBR, today: 25-14 TBR 18-22 BOS -7.5 Assume TBR wins: 26-13 TBR 17-23 BOS -9.5 That's a 2 game swing as one team has to win, while the other has to lose.
  21. I'd have been thrilled to have Contreras, Marte and Paredes. It's hard to know what we'd give up for Paredes (not Abreu) and Marte (I'd have given Duran, Bello and Witherspoon, but would AZ have said yes?) Had we gotten Marte and Paredes, trading Mayer would have been fine with me. Mayer, Bello & Witherspoon for Marte? Duran, DHam & Harrison for Paredes, Janek & King?
  22. I see no reason to think Bregman will end up at .800, even if he was at .799, now. I do think Marte has a couple more .800+ seasons in him. Bregman is not a "big bat" and hasn't been one sine 2018.
