  1. They have not been "lead your team to the playoffs" good. You are right, none have been bad enough to ever say, "drop them fro the starting 5," but your point I responded to implied that the 4-5 slots and pen were the main reasons we dropped so far in the standings and with our record. To me, all but ERod (and Workman in the pen) are responsible for what happened.
  2. Although JBJ is my favorite player, I've already said I expect him to be traded or non tendered this winter- reset or not. Personally, it makes sense to me, BUT I want us to find another top defensive CF'er who costs less. I don't know about Lagares, but his UZR/150 is bad-- I think.
  3. Good points, but I think the rotation issues go beyond just the last 2 spots in the rotation. Sale's ERA more than doubled. He's allowed 5+ runs 8 times and 4+ runs 13 times out of 25 starts. Last year, he let up 4 runs once and 6 runs once. All his other starts were 0-3 runs allowed. (Runs not ERS!) 2 out of 27 vs 13 out of 25. Price's ERA jumped about 80 points. He's let up 5 or more runs 3 times and 4 or more 7 times in 21 starts. Last year, the same but in 30 starts not 21. 7 out of 30 vs 7 out of 21. ERod has lasted longer in games, but his ERA jumper 50 points. He has 6 games with 5+ runs allowed and 11 with 4 or more out of 24 starts. Last year, he had 6 starts with 5+ runs (all with exactly 5) and NONE with 4 runs allowed out of 27 starts. 6 out of 27 vs 11 out of 24. When you have your 4-5 slots sucking badly and your 1-3 slots dropping significantly from last year, it's hard for any manager to manage wins. 2019: 31 out of 70 starts with 4 or more runs allowed. 2018: 9 out of 84
  4. The amount of balls hit to CF did not drop enough to make an organizational change in philosophy. Plus, having great D up the middle should be a top priority for any team in any park. Fenway makes it even more important to have great D in CF and RF.
  5. A look at the L-R splits this year: vs RHPs- Impressive! 1.021 Devers .939 Marco .937 Bogey .932 Betts .894 Moreland .840 Holt .826 JD .821 Beni .774 Chavis .762 JBJ .750 Vaz .700 Travis .543 Leon vs LHPs: Not bad at all! 1.345 JD (God-like) .902 Vaz .891 Bogey .849 Travis .832 Beni (Who was the clown that said to platoon him?) .778 Devers .751 Betts .742 Chavis .718 Marco .610 JBJ .606 Leon .596 Holt .385 Moreland
  6. I thought, for sure, Devers would get the day off, after all, 6 hits is so tiring!
  7. DRS -1 Devers -5 Usuala
  8. Most of the hits were rocket shots. Very hard hit. He's "in the zone." My guess is he sits today. (Just kidding.)
  9. Things change in baseball everyday- sometimes in minutes. We don't know the whole story.
  10. They should have started limiting him to 80-85 pitches after the sweeps.
  11. The less wins the better draft pick. I'm not for trying to lose games, but let the kids play and see what happens.
  12. Devers became the first MLB player ever to get 6 Hits and 4 Doubles in the same game! Sale became the quickest player to reach 2,000 K's, but he's toast- according to Jacko.
  13. Thanks for this heart felt statement. Well said.
  14. Not in any particular order: Billy Hamilton: He has a $7.5M option with KC and has a .544 OPS in 2019. It was .631 before this year, career. He's a much worse hitter than JBJ, but his D is excellent. Jarrod Dyson: FA from AZ (.706 OPS in 2019- almost identical to JBJ's. Is at .668 career.) Manuel Margot: Could trade for the CF'er who was demoted this year. (This was discussed on another thread, and I think there were 3-4 other names of interest.)
  15. In our flower garden in Texas.
  16. Thanks, slash. He was the best dog anyone ever had. (I know everyone thinks that about their dog, but this was for real.) Again, thanks.
  17. It's looks better on paper than reality, although we are second in runs scores, so it's still excellent. Marco was sent to the minors. His sample size is small. Chavis is under .700 after his frist 14 games. JBJ is hovering around .700, with just about all his hits within a 6 week period.
  18. I don't mean to bring anyone down, but I wanted to share some bad news. We had to put our 19 years old Shepherd-Yellow Lab mix named Kaleb down this morning. He lived a long and love- filled life- both giving and receiving. He's been with me from the deep woods of Maine, to a tiny apartment in Mexico City and here to Sugar Land, Texas. Peace, my friend.
  19. I suspected you'd answer this way. I respect your love of defense. I'm with you all the way on that. I do think there are several fantastic defensive CF'ers in MLB these days. Some hit worse than JBJ, but if they can field like him and cost a small fraction of what he will cost, I'm on board with moving on. I'll miss JBJ, as he was may favorite player since before his call-up. I would make sure we got a great defensive CF'er before deciding on non tendering or trading JBJ. He and Betts remind me of the Dewey & Lynn years.
  20. Like I said, I'm okay with saying "good". There were only 3 categories: good, bad and ugly. If there was a great and good/decent category, I'd place him in good/decent with JD.
  21. Are you okay with us letting JBJ go and replacing him with an equally good defender? How about slightly worse on defense but $5-7M cheaper?
  22. 2018: RISP 1.151 (.386 BA/.480 OBP) 13 HRs & 90 rbi in 200PAs 2019: RISP: .947 (.304 BA/.420 OBP) 5 Hrs & 40 rbi in 138 PAs I know calling a hitter with an OPS over .940 "bad" sounds bad, but he did not meet my expectations. I'm fine with moving him to "Good:.
  23. It doesn't matter. The Sox set a price on their own free agents to be and rarely stray from that number. It has been one of the organization's strongest area of player valuation. They rarely make mistakes on when to keep or let go their own players. It might not matter, if they think they can sign him or not, they may still want to trade him and then submit their bid when the time comes.
  24. I'm still confident the Sale signing will work out well. It's not like he's old.
  25. JD got up with a lot of men on base, this year.
