    We do have a significant amount of days off coming up soon, not even counting the 4 day all star break. We'll probably stick with 13 pitchers until a need arises on the bench.

    They do play in the easiest division in MLB, but yes, they are a formidable opponent. It's time for us to show the good team that we are better.

    Actually, I was thinking of this year and the trade deadline. As for 2020, I think it's about the same. There will be no money to spend on 2B. I think it will be Chavis and Marco at 2B and/or Chavis/Dalbec/Oclimey at 1B.

    I don't think any GM thinks of Sale and Porcello as being close in value.

    Right now 5 AL teams are already toast (BAL, KC, TOR, DET & SEA) and it is my opinion, the White Sox and Angels will be sellers by July. There's even a chance one from the Guardians, Rangers or A's might be sellers. (The Guardians have been shopping SP'ers even as they compete.) In the NL, things look pretty bunched up near the last WC slot, but IMOthe Cubs and Phillies will likely have a solid lead on many teams still "in it" now. Miami and SF are all but dead now. Add Cincy, Pitt & WSH and that's 5. That makes 10 MLB teams out of it by mid June. Add CWS, LAA, NYM and SD, and we're up to 14- almost half the teams. Add the Guardians, who are already looking to sell and maybe 1-3 teams from AZ, COL, TX & OAK, and we should see over half the teams as seellers by the end of July.

    Sale was making peanuts. Sale is way better than Porcello. Sale did not get a very long deal.

    When you trade near the deadline, you only owe 1/3 of a player's salary. Some team will be looking to dump salary, and if we can keep the money below our max tax line, we'll find an excellent closer or two very good set up men for a decent prospect or two. We got Addison Reed and Eovaldi for peanuts. What can cashews get us?

    That's part of the question along with others who are doing better (recently) than they were last year, plus we have this guy I never heard of named Marco freakin' Hernandez!

    He's past prime next year. $60M/4 might be as high as I'd go.

    It's going to be a buyers market for sure as more teams than ever will be out of it and sellers. They will go for dirt cheap. Book it.

    Is 2B still an area of need? Even if it is, can we afford to spend limited resources on 2B over the pen and rotation? Here's a look at some recent, small sample sizes of players that can play 2B: 1.077 Brock Holt in his last 12 games (not counting today's 0 PA and 1 BB) .951 Chavis in his last 9 games (not counting today's 2 for 5 game) .750 Marco Hernandez in the 8 games since being called up .654 Nunez in his last 16 games (not good but better than before)

    We've bought a little time to give Johnson & Wright a showcasing, but IMO, even if they look good, we should still trade for a solid RP'er- preferably a closer type.

    I'm thinking $48M/4 or $$38M/3. If he says no, I give him a QO and either way, I'm okay.

    The problem is EE can't play 1B everyday and maybe not even most days, especially if his back continues acting up. We have a DH who should only DH. His name is JD Martinez. While I would have liked to have had EE on our roster, I think we need pitching more than a DH/1Bman.

    Even Duran's rise was on the back of a totally unsustainable BAbip. IMO, our farm will still be ranked bottom 3 when the mid season rankings come out and at best bottom 5 next winter.

    I think these types of games often set the pace to a season's ending. It gives a team the feeling they are never out of it. It gives a team momentum going forward. And of course, it gives us a big WIN to keep pace with the Rays and Yanks. (The Astros lost.)
