  1. They have a coffee boy opening?
  2. I really would not mind Pillar & Miller, and save all remaining available resources for pitching and possible summer needs..
  3. As out 4th OF'er, sure.
  4. I'm not sure I want Chavis in LF much, next year. I'm not sure Duran is ready for 2021. I'd like to see us get a CF'er, even if on a 1-2 year deal and a 4th OF'er on a 1 yr deal. We could get a 1B/OF type or a 2B/OF type as the "4th OF'er."
  5. I expected a team just under .500, assuming normal health issues. Nothing from Sale & ERod was huge. I did not expect the Jays to be this good. I thought we'd mop upon them and the O's.
  6. I was one of the first to give up on the 2019 team, and usually I'm one of the last. I have been a "cliff" dweller for several seasons,so I thought some must see me as a "downer." I've been highly critical of those who said it would be easy or quick to rebuild the farm. I don't gush over every Sox prospect, which is not an area I consider myself any more knowledgeable than many on this site. (I admit my liking some prospects over others is often based on non evidence based conjecture. That being said, I watched nearly very pitch of every game for decades (until this year) and love my Sox like no one else I know.
  7. I think this point is valid: Had HRam and Porcello had their 2016 seasons in 2015, Ben would have been the GM starting 2016. HRam 2015: .249 19 53 (.717 OPS) 2016: .286 30 111 (.866) Porcello: 2015: 9-15 4.92 2016: 22-4 3.15 (Cy Young) Blaming the GM for this seems trite, and I honestly think the point is true. Look at these fWAR differentials: 2015 > 2016 Player 4.8>8.3 Betts 1.9>5.3 JBJ 2.9>4.9 Pedey 4.6>4.9 Bogey 2.9>4.5 Oritiz -1.2>3.0 HRam 1.7>5.1 Porcello -0.1>2.9 Wright (The 4th best pitcher fWAR by a Sox pitcher from 2015-2016!) Sure, a few players had slightly better seasons in 2015 over 2016, but nothing close to this.
  8. I hated the Masterson signing as I do most rebuilding from the 4-5 slot attempts. I will add that a lot of people hated or distrusted the 2013 roster on opening day.
  9. I agree. Count on 3 of the 6 starters needed in 2021. That means adding at least 2 solid and durable starters, although nobody is a guarantee 190+ IP starter.
  10. Regardless of what many people may think about me, I'm usually an optimist.
  11. Ben (or Larry) made some serious mistakes signing Pablito, HRam and Castillo, but Ben was handed a team in turmoil, a horrific manager thrust upon him and some massive contracts for under performing pitchers. On paper, the rotation Ben was handed looked great. I find it hard to blame him for them not pulling their weight in his first year. He then wins a ring then ends up trading away some beloved Sox pitchers. People blamed him for trading away the under performers or "clubhouse cancers," (which in itself is debatable). 3 of his teams under performed. GMs are ultimately to blame, and Ben deserves much of the blame for at least 2 of those 3 bad seasons, but he wasn't handed the farm DD was. He pulled off one of the greatest trades in ML history by dumping CC, and Beckett & AGon swiftly declined afterwards, so when judging a GM in hindsight, as they always are, we should take that into account. Without that trade, we wouldn't have had the budget space or talent to win in 2013. That trade also freed up money into DD's regime, although the HRam/Pablo/Castillo deals more than overshadowed those savings.
  12. This "unknown" situation is frustrating. When will Sale be healthy? Will Sale ever be Sale again? When will Eovaldi ever have a full season? Will he ever have even 150+ IP with us? Should he be moved to closer? What's up with ERod? COVID related heart issues are largely unknown. It might take years to find out. Perez & Pivetta seem healthy, but neither are sure bets to be solid in 2021. Without any SP'er additions, we could be looking at no reliable pitchers at some point during the 2021 season, including opening day. However, we could also have 5 solid starters at a given point in 2021, once Sale is back. Zero to five is hard to plan around.
  13. That's how I see it, but in reality, we may end up adding a solid #2 and maybe a #4 type plus some minor league SP'er depth signings. I see us adding 3 ML level RP'ers minimum. (I hope it's 4-5.) Then, there's CF, 4th OF'er and maybe 2B/1B.
  14. All-in-all, this season has been about what I expected. I fell better about the emphasis being placed on building and replenishing the farm. The questions about Verdugo and his health seem to be answered. We know a little more about Dalbec, Houck and a few others (some good-some bad). We know we have some major need areas to address, this winter and more about which areas we may want to try to fill from within the system. The season was not the funnest to watch, but there some exciting things to watch and hope is building.
  15. I agree with both of your last 2 posts, here. One could argue they hired DD more to replace Lucchino than Ben, but the writing was on the wall. DD was going to be the one in total control.
  16. I blame Pablito & HanRam.
  17. It would have been nice for Perez to end the season with a gem, but it was nice to get a jolt of optimism these last 2 weeks. We got a little better idea of what some of our youth can or might do. We've got a clearer look at what our high need areas will be, this winter. We will likely have a winter spending budget that could near or pass $70M.
  18. He did say "may" have an impact.
  19. My guess is he comes into ST'ing with a chance to make the big club- maybe as a long RP'er/spot starter. Either way, I doubt he gets more than 150 IP total.
  20. I could see us going for both.
  21. He did win Red Sox Minor League Defensive Player of the Year, but even soxprospects has him as average... Field: Hands work well and footwork is usually reliable. A little stiff and has some trouble getting down on ground balls when charging the ball. Doesn't have great range, but makes up for that somewhat with his length, allowing him to cover more ground than his feet would normally allow. Has made great strides since he joined the Red Sox at third base. Regressed somewhat at third base in 2019 and projects as an average defender there. Also has seen significant time at first base at higher levels, in large part due to presence of Rafael Devers at third base in Boston. Arm: Plus arm strength. Touched the mid-90s off the mound in college. Plenty of arm for third base, able to make all the throws including balls fielded on the foul line. Has regressed slightly but still fine for third base.
  22. Agreed. He also seems to have some issues with foot work, which could hurt at 1B.
  23. Ahh... My eyes are failing me. I thought you were saying DD wanted to stay one more year, too. Yes, DD wanted Ben to stay. Food for thought for all the DD lovers that hate Ben.
  24. Nice list. Some others Bloom has added that might have an impact: Perez (only has one more year of control- so, not so "lasting", unless we re-sign him. Not currently on 40 man roster but could be "lasting": Downs Potts Seabold Wong Rosario Wallace Drafted: Yorke Jordan Wu-Yelland Drohan
  25. He doesn't sell.He buys.
