  1. Here's a trade BTV accepted: BOS: Taillon & Stallings PHI: Vazquez & Chavis PIT: Abel & Marcham
  2. He's okay for the 7-9 slot in the pen, but yes, ideally it would be better if he was AAAA depth. The Whitlock pick takes up one slot.
  3. That makes sense. Would the Marisnik & Brad Miller signings satisfy that plan?
  4. Assuming BTV numbers are fairly accurate, these are the Sox players, I'd suggest be traded for high need areas (SP, RP, RP, SP, CF, 2B- in that order): 12.1 Duran 7.5 Chavis 5.5 Beni (hate selling low) 4.9 Chatham 4.5 Ward 4.3 Wong 3.8 Song 3.7 Groome 3.0 Murphy 2.6 Decker Possible for "the right guy:" 26.4 Downs 21.0 Vazquez 18.2 Dalbec
  5. Here are the Relief IP'd Leaders for the Sox from 2019-2020 combined: IP Pitcher xFIP 91 Walden 4.40 (could be traded or DFA'd) 87 Barnes 3.21 (should be our 2nd set-up man) 80 Brasier 4.63 (should be our 3rd set up man) 78 Workman 3.39 (traded away) 66 Brewer 4.62 (may not make the opening day 26 man roster) 54 Taylor 3.68 (kinda the wildcard for 2021) 53 Weber 3.80 (likely not on the opening day 26 man roster) 49 Hembree 5.57 (traded away) 36 Hernandez 3.56 (could shine in 2021) 34 Velazquez 4.86 (gone) 30 Valdez 4.68 (bubble for 26/40 man roster) 24 Josh Smith 4.51(gone) 23 Cashner 5.00 (gone) 20 Springs 3.70 (40 man roster bubble) 20 Shawaryn 5.76 (off 40 man roster) 19 Thornburg 5.40 (gone) 19 Brice 4.78 (given contract) 10-18 Lakins, Johnson, Covey, Osich, Eovaldi, Stock Ideally, we'd see this for 2021: 1. ________ Closer 2. ________ 1st set-up 3. Barnes 2nd set up 4. Brasier 3rd set up 5. D Hern short-long man 6. Taylor 7. ________ (Brice) 8. Whitlock AAA: Valdez, Brewer, Bazardo, Walden, Springs, Feltman, Hall, Payamps
  6. I'm assuming, yes. I'm of the mind our pen needs additions, badly. At minimum, I'd like to see us get two solid RP'ers, including a closer and set-up man. 3 decent to very good RP'ers might do the trick, too.
  7. I could see us starting the season "as is" at 2B and 1B, and then address any needs mid season. To me, beyond pitching, pitching and more pitching, our highest priorities are: 1. CF 2. 2B (maybe 2B/CF)
  8. I think it was announced just minutes from my post, and as notin pointed out, the rays were interested in Vazquez, last year, while they still had Zunino. His contract is "cheap," even for TB, and if we take back Kiermaier and hopefully Anderson or Yarbrough+Fairbanks, they'd actually cut costs.
  9. Yes, agreed, but we do have a few guys that can go 2-3 innings as well as a partial inning.
  10. I feel the same way. I've never minded high K rates, if the guy gets on base over .333 or so, and Dalbec has always done that. His power seems unquestionable. I'm not sure if any GMs see value in Chavis and Chatham, and as much as I hate trading prospects, especially pitching prospects, I'm thinking Ward or Groome may have to be part of any package that brings back something worthwhile. I know many here envision Duran as of CF'er of the future, but if we fill our OF needs, this winter, via trade and or free agency, I'd rather trade Duran than Dalbec.
  11. If we sign Odorizzi and a decent relief pitcher can trade for someone like Taillon (Pitt) and Anderson (TB), we could be viewed as a serious contender- not top 3 or 4, but still...
  12. I've made a lot of suggestions, but Vaz is one that will bring back the most. We've talked about just how much Chavis is worth, if anything. Chatham might be wanted. With Renfroe, Marisnik & Miller added to the roster, Duran, Wilson or Rosario could be trade pieces. I'm not for trading Dalbec, but you have to give to get, so maybe he could be dealt, instead of Chavis, and if we do trade him, maybe we add Moreland to the FA signing list of non-pitchers. We'd need to find a catcher. Maybe Vaz goes to Philly or TB and we get Taillon, Stallings and/or maybe Frazier from Pitt and/or Anderson/Fairbanks from TB. I'm not sure, if the players I listed are enough or even wanted, but the BTV site says they are enough, even without Dalbec. This trade will fill every major need area: BOS: Taillon, Anderson, Kiermaier, Stallings, Frazier TB: Vazquez & Duran Pitt: Baz, Chatam, Chavis & Grullon (I'd give even more, if needed- like Groome or Ward or Arauz/Wilson/a bubble pitcher.)
  13. I think see more players acquired by trade than free agency, but I wouldn't be surprised if we sign Miller and Marisnik as the only non pitchers beyond Renfroe.
  14. Come on. If Dalbec stumbles, finding a capable 1Bman, mid season, is easier than any other position in MLB. You can even find 'em in May or June, if needed. We could even get lucky as see Chavis fill the gap, if it arises.
  15. Reading comprehension was never your strong suit.
  16. Owners want to make as much money as possible from as many revenue streams as they can have or create. The more TV revenue- the better. Perhaps a few teams are losing money by hosting a game in an empty stadium and not getting enough TV revenue to offset the cost, but my guess is, most teams will make money on each game they televise.
  17. As the world turns... MLB designates Negro Leagues as 'Major League'
  18. Those times were agonizing, for sure, but as a kid and teen, it was a lot of fun watching and following the Sox. Tiant, Lynn, Rice, Lee, Yaz, Evans, Petrocelli, Burleson, Fisk and on and on...
  19. I missed that signing.
  20. Anderson would sure fill a big need area for us, but I think he's too valuable to get without having to give back much more. Baz fits with Pittsburg more than with us, so that's why I had tried a 3 team deal. The site did just accept this trade: Vaz for Kiermaier, Anderson & Fleming In my deal involving the 3rd team, Pitt, we get a catcher back (Stallings) and gain a much better starter than Fleming (Taillon). Here it is: BOS Gets (all our top needs) SP Taillon (Pitt) Closer Anderson (TB) CF Kiermaier (TB) C Stallings (Pitt) 2B Frazier (Pitt) TB gets C Vazquez (Bos) CF Duran (Bos) Pitt gets SP Baz (TB) 1B Chavis (Bos) SS Chatham (Bos) C Grullon (Bos)
  21. I'm not with you on Duran. I think it is highly unlikely he is ML ready by opening day, and we may be lucky if he is by mid season. He's no Betts. He just was switched to OF, and he has some learning to do. I'm not sure why so many people seem to think he's earned a chance at the major league level.
  22. I have high hopes the Sox somehow acquire Taillon. Maybe we take on Polanco's contract to sweeten the deal. Bell to the Sox could also be part of a trade, but Adam Frazier could be a more reasonable addition to a deal with the Sox. On the BTV site, I proposed a 3 way deal with TB, Pitt & the Sox, where the Sox get Kiermaier from TB and Taillon & Frazier from Pitt. TB gets Vazquez, and Pitt gets Baz or Fleming and someone from us- maybe Chavis, Chatham or Groome or 2 of the 3.
  23. In some ways, it makes sense, since Moreland almost always has struggled vs LHPs, but do we really want a somewhat raw rookie riding the bench 2 out of every 3 games? Sure, he can PH in many of the games he does not start, but he should play everyday. In very limited play, this year, Dalbec hit .903 v RHPs. In a super tiny sample size in 2019 at AAA, he hit .753 vs RHPs and .950 v LHPs. IN AA, that year, .904 v L/.794 v R (not bad). In 2018, he hit righties better at AA .868 v .701 and did very well vs both in A+ ball: .970 v R and .881 v L. In 2017, he hit righties better, again: .797 v .724. 2021 seems like the perfect setting to turn Dalbec loose and let him play everyday. Let's see what we have. He could get a few PAs at 3B, when Devers needs rest, and maybe some at DH, but not enough to justify signing Moreland to rob him of PAs at 1B.
  24. We have a 3Bman and DH. While I like Moreland, spending on 1B in hopes he doess better than Dalbec will do may keep us from signing a better or extra RP'er or SP'er. We could end up trading Dalbec and signing Moreland.
  25. I guess, ideally, if you have more than one at any given time, you'd want one expiring soon.
