  1. The bottom of our 40 man roster was atrocious at the end of the 2020 season- something I had hoped Bloom would have improved in his first year. It seems like he has, this winter. Here's my list of the bottom of the roster in order of who I wouldn't mind seeing traded or DFA'd: DFA'd: Wilson (if we add an OF'er) Brice DFA's/Traded: Walden Brewer Traded: Valdez Chavis Arauz Wong ? Taylor ? We also kept Weber, Munoz & others (from 40 man to non 40 man).
  2. Certainly an idea. Can't we just cut someone the day we add someone?
  3. Springs has sprung.
  4. Gone from 2020: JBJ Beni Pedey Peraza Lin Rusney Castillo Chatham Grullon Godley Kickham Covey Tapia Stock Leyer Triggs Aybar Payamps (added after 2020 season) Springs Added: Richards Ottavino E Hernandez Renfroe Cordero M Gonzalez Sawamura Andriese Whitlock German C Koss Winckowski PTBNL from Mets (Khalil Lee) 2 PTBNL from KCR (Beni) PTBNL or $$$ for Chatham I'd have to say that is a pretty nice revamping of the 26 man roster, but even better with the bottom of the 40 man roster and non 40 man roster system.
  5. Springs was just DFA'd to add Sawamura to the roster.
  6. Springs DFA'd as Sawamura is officially signed.
  7. Unlike Andriese and Brice, he has options left, so yes. Whitlock's rule 5 status locks him into a 26 man slot. I still think cutting or trading Brice allows us to have better pitchers on the 26 man roster, but I get the idea of keeping as many pitchers as possible available. Sign Sawamura and trade Chavis & Brice for Frazier & Brault and call it a winter.
  8. The other interesting point is that the Yanks projected to 89 wins, last year and lost Tanaka, Paxton, Happ and others, but now, magically they win 95. One could easily argue the Sox improved by more than the Yanks did, but he gives both teams 6-7 more wins.
  9. Thanks. That does mean we can use his roster slot for one more signing or addition. Again, it's not like DFA'ing Springs or some others would be a tough thing to do.
  10. I've been a big JBJ supporter, but I am not for bringing him back. I doubt he'd take a $5M/1 deal, so NO CHANCE!
  11. Some may consider 47.1 IP as "long enough." I don't, but I do think it warrants him getting another shot over Brice, Springs and Wilson. Walden had some success, but it seemed like smoke and mirrors, to me. (I guess one could say the same about Taylor's 2019 season: 1.18 WHIP/ 3.11 FIP/11.8 K/9.) BTW, he also put in 23.1IP in AAA in 2019 with a 1.18 WHIP & 12.4 K/9. That's over 70 IP combined. His AA numbers were horrific in a much larger sample size.
  12. Doesn't moving him to the 60 Day IL have to happen after the season starts? Does that mean our last roster addition will happen opening day or the day after? I still thing we can easily DFA Springs, Walden,Wilson or even Brice before the Sale move is made, and we could add 1-2 players at low costs.
  13. How did extending Sale and Bogey fit into this neat analysis?
  14. Our winning percentage, last year, would have projected to 65 wins, You basically say losing JBJ and Beni while adding ERod, Richards, Ottavino, EHern, Renroe, Cordero and a full seasons from Pivetta, Dalbec and others and maybe something from Sale equals just +7 wins. Sounds real fair, unless you think the Sox over performed, last year.
  15. Maybe, but some reports say the Sox have a pool of players to choose from, and they wanted some time to look them over, since last year was a lost season for minor leaguers.
  16. Baseball Prospects Journal projects we draft Jack Leiter RHP Vanderbilt with the 4th pick. 1. Kumar Rocker, RHP to PIT 2. Jordan Lawlar, SS to TEX 3. Jud Fabian, OF to DET
  17. I still think they should have made a counter offer, even if they knew it would be turned down... something like $340M/11. It would have showed more effort and desire to keep him, even if just for "show." Betts would not have accepted even $350M/11, and that's probably what Bloom realized.
  18. Now that the Mets signed Pillar, what is left for JBJ? I doubt the Astros go more than $16M/2, and even that is an overpay, IMO. My guess is, he takes a 1 year deal and tries to show 2020 was not an outlier. Big risk, though.
  19. The plus for PIT would be years of team control, but if they don't want Chavis, I can understand why. For what it's worth, BTV has Frazier valued at 4.5. He has 2 years of team control, which might overlap with Downs, but we could alsways trade him, once we know Downs is for real and ML ready. (Word is LH's RP'er Brault ison the market, too at a 1.8 value) Here are some possible combinations of values that would come close to 4.5: 6.6 Chavis (in theory could get Frazier and Brault- maybe throw in Brice or Taylor) 6.0 Lugo 5.2 Groome 4.6 Song 3.7 Wong 3.6 Murphy 3.1 Decker 2.9 Bonaci,Potts & Jordan 2.5 Arauz 2.2 Lopez & Gonzalez 2.1 Ramirez 2.0 Bello, Cannon, Cacon, Rafaela I'd give 2 from Decker, Arauz & Murphy for 2 years of Frazier and 3 years of Brault. I'd give Arauz & Cannon for Frazier.
  20. The thing is, the state went dark way before temps reached the lowest temps since 1989. Yes, our grid is a mess, and it's been known to be so for a long time. We are expanding solar power, here, but coal burning is still a significant factor in our power generation.
  21. I doubt it takes much to get Adam Frazier. I'd give Chavis, but who knows what his value is to other GMs. BTV says he's worth more than Frazier. I doubt it. I might give Chavis and some low prospect.
  22. After Sawamura at $3M/2, I think we trade for a 2Bman or CF'er. I doubt we add any more pitchers until the deadline, assuming we are in the race. (I'd sure like to replace Brice with almost anyone, but I'm not sure that happens.) Our opening day 13 man pitching staff (Sale on the 60-day IL): ERod Eovaldi Richards Pivetta Perez Ottavino Barnes DHern Brasier Sawamura Andriese (no options) Brice (no options) Whitlock (rule 5) AAA: Houck, Taylor, Valdez, Mata, Seabold, Brewer, Bazardo If we want Houck on the 26 man roster, we have to DFA Brice or trade someone.
  23. We got our power back around midnight- just as temps were dropping below 20 and headed towards 13. It still shocks me that 25 degree temperatures can cripple a whole state.
  24. The "way" was to pay Betts, Price, JD, Sale & Bogey and have 21 replacement level players fill out the rest of the roster. (Sarcasm alert but with kernal of truth.)
  25. That was JBJs spot!
