This has been an ongoing issue with Cora: not playing players where they are best defensively. Devers at 3B for way too long. Story at 2B with the lesser Bogey at SS. Now, Story at SS as he has clearly regressed. Rafaela at SS (and 2B,) Arroyo in the OF, Franchy at 1B and on and on... It may be too early to say he's "lost this team," but this has been a bad start to the season. The bone-head plays continue.

Playing catcher also ate into his PA totals. He has 27 HRs per 650 as a catcher, but he only had over 495 PAs in one season.

This is not supported by the data. Best 3 years of career? His last 3. Best 2 years of his career? His last 2. His 123 OPS+ in 2025 is very good. He only had 3 other seasons higher than that. (3 better/ 7 worse)

Lets see how Alonso compares to Contreras. To me, the big mistake was keeping 4 OF'ers and going cheap on Durbin/IKF rather than KMarte/Neto/Paredes

Pretty accurate. Suarez was not really lower cost, and Gray is making $31M ($10M paid by STL.) Contreras was cheaper than Alonso, but he's still making $18M. Durbin, Kiner-Falefa, Oviedo and others were much lower cost options than others, for sure.

It's just one slot, but they had Eyanson jump over Phillips. The NOV 2025 rankings had Phillips 13 and Eyanson 14. Since then, we traded away #4 Perales, #6 Jh Garcia, #8 Clarke, #10 Fajardo & #12 Sandlin, so the rise by these two was almost all due to attrition. I did not see the jump by Wehunt coming. I would not have jumped Castro up. Azocar went from #25 to #15. Ramos & Rivas jumped 10 slots, but abut 10 prospects ahead of them were traded away. I thought he might be the #5, if healthy. He had a nice run a few years ago, but many pitchers can say that, including guys like McCullers.

They did bounce Bleis & Cespedes from the top 30, but Castro went up. I'm surprised by the drop of Jo Garcia from 30 to 51, but these guys know more than I do.

Based on this tiny sample size? Whitlock is a top 5 set up man in MLB. He's a top 30 RP'er since 2021 (3rd in ERA-, 6th in FIP, 21st in fWAR as a RP) He's elite as elite can be.

Yes, Cora "will find a way" to make it all work out, but for a team struggling to score runs, benching Duran seems counterproductive. We should have traded an OF'er. (BTW, did anyone notice Paredes is on the bench, too?)

I do think Brez listens to Cora, but the choice of Eaton going to AAA was ultimately Brez's to make. I think both Cora and Brez prefered to have Yoshida's bat on the bench over Eaton. We already have 4 OF'ers and not enough slots, so Eaton was not needed for the OF.

Doesn't Brez choose the 26 man roster?

The pattern of overhype seems to be with the "5 tool" everyday players more than anyone else, and I guess this makes sense. Since so much of the value being given is speculative, in nature, they give more value to the "highly-skilled" players. They seem more cautious with pitchers, but the Sox farm system has had so many disappointments with "promising" pitchers, over the past few decades, I can understand their reluctance in over-hyping them.

Swinging and missing is very tiresome.

That very well might be the choice when all are healthy, but someone will get hurt or struggle enough to be demoted, traded or DFA'd. Crawford should get some IP in MLB, this year.
