  1. He uses them as little as possible. With the allstar break coming, maybe he can push some others a little farther- knowing the break is coming. He may want to give Barnes and Eovaldi a little extra rest. I hope we don't have to use these two in any high or even medium leverage situation, but we're not the only team with struggling pitchers at the bottom of our pen Hopefully, both will be gone real soon..
  2. The tweaks are coming. Maybe not fast enough for some, but they are coming, soon.
  3. No prob. I might have misremembered who was there at the end.
  4. I'd have no problem DFA'ing any or all of these three, but I trust Bloom knows what he's doing. I'm thinking Chavis might be on his last legs, too-- with the Sox. I think we see some tinkering during the all star break. We'll see more when Sale, Brasier and others are healthy. By the deadline, we'll know what we need outside the system- most likely a RP'er and or 1Bman.
  5. Huge game by Pivetta. HUGE! The more 700 bashes him, the better he does. This team is special.
  6. It was mentioned several times that Valdez was not on the 26 man roster, and all that was left was Workman for his 3rd inning, a starter or Andriese.
  7. We have a lot of options in the system, now and some more once they get healthy or "ML ready." P Sale Brasier Houck Valdez Bazardo Ort (not on 40 man, now) McCarthy/Seabold C Plawecki or Wong 1B Cordero, Ockimey (not on 40 man, now) 1B/2B Chavis (once Arroyo pushes him back to AAA) 2B/SS Arauz, Downs? 3B Chavis, Lopez & Munoz (not on 40 man, now) OF Cordero, Duran & Wilson(not on 40 man, now) Santana, Andriese and Rios may be on a very short leash. I'm not sure Workman is, anymore.
  8. I’m fine with civil discourse, but you and I both know it went beyond that in a game we barely lose after winning 7 straight. We had guys screaming to bring in pitchers not even on the roster. Cora bashing beyond civility. Bloom bashing. I thought the sarcastic post was fitting.
  9. But if their righties hit righties as well as lefties, I’m not sure we can say that’s a major reason they are on pace to finish at .500.
  10. The thing is, Duran may be thought of as ML ready, and they still won’t call him up.
  11. Of course. The point is, if we have a player who does not figure to be in our plans, long term, how much return value will we get for him? I see Chavis as being a player that may fit that mold, but what can we get for him? Moreland? A middle RP'er? Sure, I can see that, but I was talking about giving up good prospects for rental. I don't see that happening. Now, maybe Bloom does not think someone like Groome, Ward or some borderline rule 5 player to be will make the 40 man roster, next year, but we think of that prospect orprospects as being promising. I could see Bloom dealing 2-3 of those type players for a rental or two or someone with more years of team control at a somewhat high cost. He did trade for Ottavino and his deal. I could see us trading Chavis, Groome and maybe someone like Potts for a good RP'er and LH'd hitting 1Bman.
  12. Exactly, and even at the start of the season, it was clear every AL team had some major issues or question marks. That is what offered us the best hope. Someone may yet take hold and show dominance, but so far, [we've had about 6 teams look like the best of the AL, at some point, this year, including the Sox a few times. You have to ask, why the hell not? Who else looks like they have a clearly better shot at making the WS? Winning the WS might be harder. The top 3-4 NL teams looks much better than us.
  13. Exactly. We weren't bringing in a starter, so it was Workman for his 3rd inning vs Andriese. Workman is looking more and more like he may stick around, so why blow his arm out? Cora used the whole available pen, last night and all that was left was Andriese. Had he played it any differently, we may not have even made it that far. (And, he'd have been blamed for that, too.) Every loss causes an obsessed search for someone to blame, and Cora seems like the punching bag most of the time. To me, if you have to blame someone, blame Bloom for still having Andriese on the 26 man roster, but don't take that as me saying Bloom sucks. He may very well be the best GM we've had since Theo.
  14. It may appear like stubbornness, but I see it as keeping as many options in the system as possible and not letting short sample size failures rule his decision-making. I'm all for cutting Andriese and Santana loose, yesterday, but I can understand thinking a longer look may be needed.
  15. I think we do this at the all start break or shortly afterwards: DFA Andriese- add Ort to the 40 and call up Houck. DFA Santana and add Duran to the 40 and activate Arroyo. The next decisions will be: Who does Sale replace? (Richards to the pen and DFA Rios) Who does Brasier replace? (Workman? Hmmm....) Duran vs Chavis Plawecki vs Wong Valdezz, Ort, Bazardo vs _______?
  16. Yes, he has quite a bit- 15 career games (89 innings).
  17. Of course there is. 3 years from now we can and should be better than now, but winning it all this year does look more and more doable with every winning streak along with watching almost every other AL team expose their weaknesses. I can see deciding the tax limit priority is worth less than increasing our odds of winning in2021. To me, we are not going to trade top prospects unless Bloom doesn’t rate them highly. The way we acquire useful pieces, this summer, is by adding good salary dump players at minimal player return cost.
  18. I’m not advocating what I presented, but just pointing out the fact that it is not just Kike vs Duran. With Dalbec’s issues and Arroyo’s injuries, maybe we can play Duran near FT without really benching anyone but Santana. Plus, this whole scenario presented is based on the assumption Duran is ML ready. I’m not sure if that’s true, yet.
  19. Since Kike can play 2B and even 1B, there are a few ways to work Duran into a near FT role without benching Kike. They could play Kike, Arroyo and Dalbec equally at 2B/1B or platoon Arroyo and Dalbec with Kike playing where the one on the bench normally plays.
  20. Some champs can be chalked up to luck but the better teams win more often than not.
  21. I understand where you were coming from, and there are so many permutations and sub factors involved, there can never really be a definitive grade placed on this trade. Perhaps only Verdugo having a better career than Betts will convince some this was a good deal for us at that moment in time, and this from a sign Betts to a 14 year deal fan!
  22. Nothing in the minors, either.
  23. Stop making sense. You are bursting many posters’ dream bubbles.
  24. Yes, at an enormous cost, and we don’t know if Betts would have re-signed with us had we not traded him. (This has all been discussed over and over.)
