  1. 1. Kike 2. Devers 3. JD 4. Bogey 5. Verdugo 6. Story 7. Cordero 8. Vazquez 9. JBJ
  2. You guys are always getting hurt. You were lucky you lasted this long.
  3. Correct, and that's a list of the most elite hitters since 2019. Devers is on the list. Of course the 4 younger players highlighted in red have exceeded Devers at early ages. I did not mean to imply he was better than those on the list, but just being named on that list is an honor.
  4. 20K and 4 BB in 12 IP at AAA 42 K and 12 BB in 33.2 IP at AA Short sample size, but it seems he's improving at the higher level.
  5. Singing to the choir. Call up Winckowski to be the long man, if needed, but name a damn closer!
  6. German more than Casas? (Also, Winckowski & Seabold can pitch in relief, too, but I do like German, a lot.)
  7. I don't see it as the revolving door like the Yankee big FA signing years. We've done pretty well with the stars we let go, and we've had enough continuity to keep me a happy Sox fan, so far. If we lose Betts, Bogey and Devers, it will remind me of the dismantling of the teams of the 70's, but we sucked after that. We may not, this time.
  8. Yes, Raffy's D has held down his WAR, but the age point is still valid. I don't like the comp. I mentioned Devers improving defense, that should bring his WAR up while he's still younger than Rendon during his best years. fWAR/BWAR age Rendon 23. 0.4/1.0 24. 6.4/6.5 25. 1.1/0/5 26. 4.5/3.5 27. 5.9/6.1 28. 6.0/5.1 29. 6.8/7.1 30. 2.5/2.2 31. 0.2/0.0 COVID 32. 1.2/1.1 so far Devers 0.7 20. 1.0/0.9 21. 6.7/5.4 22. 0.8/0.7 23. 4.3/3.5 24. 2.5/2.2 Exact same fWAR age 34 + age 24 seasons.
  9. I was, too, and I think it shows he wanted to stay here. With the Story signing and the low ball offer, maybe not anymore. Isn't there a thread on Bogey?
  10. Ah. That makes sense. I thought you were responding to BZ's comment on Devers getting $350M/10.
  11. Rendon did have a top 6 MVP year at age 24, but his others were at ages 27 & 29. Devers started in the igs at age 20, and he came up through the system playing against pitchers much older than him. His break out year was at age 22 (2019) when he hit .916. Rendon's was at age 24, but his OPS was only .824. He then hit .765 the next 2 seasons combined at ages 25 & 26) If you comp their corresponding age numbers (Ages 23-25): .768 Rendon .882 Devers I know you mentioned Devers has "yet to break" the top 6, he's not yet 27. He has a .895 OPS since 2019. It should be noted, Rendon was superb from ages 27-30 (.949 OPS), but he has dropped off the last 2 years: .724 from 2021 to 2022 (just 414 PAs). He's at .791 since 2020. At his age, that's amazing. TOPS OPS since 2019 1.072 Trout .981 Soto .965 Tatis .959 Harper .943 Alvarez .937 Judge .937 Freeman .928 Springer .924 Acuna .903 Betts .900 Rendon .898 Cruz .895 Devers He's a top 5 generational talent, and his defense is improving.
  12. I think both factors sealed the deal.
  13. I may be getting my math wrong (again), but Lindor was 27 when traded to the Mets. They extended him that April (2021), when he was 27. Devers is 25. We could extend him now or at the end of the season at age 25. He turns 26 in October. He'll be 27 next October- the same age as Lindor, when he was extended.
  14. I’m not sure that would have been enough, but yes.
  15. I said 1-3 years. Had we not did so well in 2021, we might have stayed under this year, too. IMO
  16. I'm thinking Henry wanted to reset the tax for 1-3 years and felt a mega Betts deal would hamper acquiring a competitive team to play around the big 3. I don't think he wanted to go much above $300M. He might have also thought signing Betts meant saying good bye to Bogey and Devers, yet here we are talking aout that, anyway.
  17. Gotta wonder how close these guys are to being promoted: Woo > Boston Casas Duran Seabold Winckowski Bello German (Fitzy, Valdez, Refsnyder and others) POR > Woo Walter Murphy Granberg (Maybe Koss & Hamilton, later) Greenville > POR Binelas Rafaela Lugo Northcut Jimenez McDonough (Maybe Yorke, later on) Salem > GRE Gonzalez Uberstine Kavadas Hickey Mayer Paulino
  18. True dat. Just keeping you on your toes. As you get older, the years kinda blend together.
  19. You said it better than I.
  20. No, I'm also talking about when Bloom took over. People act like he was free to sign Betts for over $300M, and it's on him for trading him away and not re-signing or extending him. My point is, he did not have that choice. I don't think Henry would have approved going over the tax line or totally gutting the rest of the players around Betts. Look at the 2020 season. Bloom spent $40M to fill about 10 slots and we still had one of the worst roster depth team in my memory. Had we used that $40M on Betts, we'd have a team of 20 replacement players going into 2021, too. I'm not buying the idea that Henry did not have set spending limit he gave Bloom over his time here, and that amount was way lower than DD got. Plus, he had very few highly ranked prospects, at the time, to trade and improve the guys around Betts, Bogey & Devers. WE can argue about what we got for Betts, but IMO, he was a gonner before and during Blooms first years here.
  21. German, too. I think Seabold, Winckowski, Duran and Casas are already "ML Ready." Guys like Fitzy, Refsnyder and maybe a couple other fring players.
  22. 2 games under .500, now, with a chance to pass the CWS, tomorrow. We're 2.5 behind TOR and the final WC slot. May is not even over, yet.
  23. I'm not trying to free Bloom of blame, but why not answer the question? Should he have countered with $380M, even if Henry said he had to reset the tax line?
  24. It's games like this that get teams to click, although we seemed to be clicking pretty well, before tonight. Just don't lose 2-1, tom orrow.
  25. If you change the sample size to get 30 players at each positions, our rankings look like this: 120+ PAs, except Catcher w 80+ 3rd Devers 3B (28) 3rd Bogey SS (28) 9th Story 2B (30) 17th Vaz out of 28 with 80+ PAs 20th Kike CF (23) (26th out of 29 with 110+ PAs) 23rd JBJ RF (27) 26th Verduo LF (28) (30 out of 32 w 110+ PAs) 32nd Dalbec 1B (32)
