  1. Bobby Dee starting his 2022 Comeback Tour.
  2. Many felt the same, last season, when most of Cora's mixing and matching worked out for the pen. We had several closers, last year, too, including Richards and Robles. RP'ers are largely hit or miss, and this year we are missing. Last year we split 607 relief innings by 33 pitchers! Yes, 33 used in relief. Take away the 1 IP everyday player moments, and the 1 relief IP by ERod & Pivetta, and we still had 25 pitchers uses in the pen. 20 had more than 3 IP. 17 had more than 17 IP. 30 Barnes (24 saves/6 BS 17 Ottavino (11/6) At the start of the year, many felt he should have been the closer. 5 Whitlock (2/3) mostly longer innings at the end of games 4 Robles(4/0) Best save:BS ration on the team w Ruchards 4 Andriese (1/3) was DFA'd 4 DHern(0/4) now demoted 3 Richards (3/0) 2 Davis (0/2) 1 Taylor, Houck, Pivetta (1/0) 1 Brasier, Sawamura (0/1) So far, this year, we've used 14 pitchers in relief, including Plawecki. RP'er by most save situations SV/BS 2/3 Robles 1/3 Diekman 2/1 Barnes 1/1 Strahm 1/1 Whitlock 0/2 Brasier 1/0 Schreiber 0/1 Davis
  3. Agreed, but then we'd have had worse stats trying to replace the roles both of them were pulled from.
  4. Yes, and we rest the tax several times under Epstein. During Theo's last few years, he started to get away from that winning philosophy and even admitted it, alter. Ben was Bloom before Bloom. It was obvious Henry sought to get back to the early to mid Theo era philosophy, but after 3 last place finishes, I think he got impatient and blew up the whole plan by hiring DD, and setting him loose. Henry does seem to go in cycles, but it has worked. Spreading rings every few years seems to keep fans happy. Here is a look at the opening day budgets ups and downs year by year since Theo: Rings in RED Theo: -9, +27, -4, +23, -10, -12, +47, -4 Ben: +12, -21, +2, +18 DD: +13, -1, +36, +3 Bloom: [-153 (COVID)], -56 from 2019, +26 (This budget is still $30M below DD's final season opening say budget) Note: End of year budgets vary wildly from opening day, some years. Seasons we paid a lux tax: Theo: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012 Ben 2015 DD 2016, 2018, 2019 Bloom likely 2022
  5. Having a strong farm is the best way to sustain winning for big, moderate and low spenders. I'm not sure how much input Henry had during DD's trading prospects stretch, and maybe the fact that very few of the prospects he traded amounted to much over those first few years (and even afterwards) reinforced the position that trading prospects made more sense than letting low cost players fill many key slots on the roster. I think he has gone back to trusting the farm over big signings and extension. The problem is, our farm is not really at the point where we can expect high impact players infusions on a consistent basis. Some of our very best prospects seem 1.5-3 years away.

  10. Maybe true, but how you use a bad pen might not matter as much as constructing one.
  11. The Packers won 5 championships in 7 years during the 60's. The Steelers won 4 of 6 in the 70's. The Bears won 4 of 7 in the 40's. The Patriots won 3 of 4 in 00's and 3 of 5 in the 10's (6 of 18 combined*) The Lions won 3 of 6 in the 50's. The 49'ers won 4 of 9 in the 80's and 5 of 14 (80's-90's) The Packers also won 3 in a row and 5 in 11 back in the 20'2-30's. *as far as I know, no team has ever won more than 6 in 18 years, but the Bears won 6 in 15, one stretch.
  12. But the NFL had playoffs before the Super Bowl. Counting only Super Bowl wins implies there was no NFL before 1967. The NFL before 1967 was a hell of a lot different than MLB before their first World Series.
  13. Can't you say the same about MLB, the NBA and NHL? All have expanded. Why is it harder to count? Just look it up. Now, one can argue about AFL champions counting before the merger, but one could say that about the ABA, too. Back in 1965, before the Super Bowl, there were 14 NFL teams and 9 NBA teams. Should we discount those championships by the Celtics due to only 9 teams and a truncated playoff schedule? I think there was like 6 or 8 NHL teams back in the mid 60's. There were 20 MLB teams. The NFL was pretty established, as a league and had as many teams or more than the other 3 major sports leagues all the way up to the first Super Bowl.
  14. Need a win. Pivetta on the mound.
  15. He's been using Barmes in mop up situations, which is where he should be used, if he's on the roster. The weird thing, right now, is that the pen seems to only do well, like game 2, yesterday, when the need is lowest.
  16. I'm not sure why people only count NFL championships by Super Bowl wins. The real totals are: 13 Green Bay 9 Chicago 8 NY Giants 6 Boston/New England 6 Pittsburgh 5 Dallas, SFG & Redskins/+++
  17. He was amazing. I'd add Earl Campbell. The guy had thighs as big as most people's torsos.
  18. Which forces him to swing at balls out of the zone.
  19. Like Perez, Ottavino was two different pitchers 1st half vs second half: .574 OPS Against 1st half (37 IP and 159 PA) .948 OPS Against 2nd half (25 IP and 117 PA)
  20. It's amazing how a quick demotion totally fixed Brasier!
  21. He started slowly, last year, too, but how long we go on hoping history repeats itself?
  22. I'm not sure anyone has been a bigger Dalbec defender than I, but I have to think he is still on the hot seat. The fact that Casas is struggling might help, but he needs to do better than even these last 27 PAs going forward to get his leash shortened or taken off.
  23. I think so, too, but they may baby him, next start.
