  1. I knew Mayer would pass Casas. Glad to see Bello moving up. Who is next? Walter?
  2. The guy dislikes every Sox player, coach, manager and GM, except Devers. I find it hard to think of a fan that dislikes so much about "his team."
  3. He also added Paxton, this winter, as well as the questionable Danish. The expectation, faulty or otherwise, was that Sale would be back, too. (Not really an "addition" but in a sense, he was supposed to be.
  4. ...and he did that with about $40M to spend on about 10 open slots from a last place 2020 team. He had more to spend, this year, and a few less slots to fill, so the training wheels are coming off.
  5. I was kinda surprised STORK even made an appearance, but it's obvious he's in la-la-land. Notice no Swi? He says he's a big Sox fan, but he only comes around, when we are losing.
  6. I know I seem obsessed with the K:BB ratios of some of our pitching prospects, but I can't help myself... IP Pitcher K:BB 43 Walter 60:3 40 Pannone 40:5 40 Bello 52:13 42 Murphy 51:17 37 Seabold 37:10 44 Santos 32:9 31 Groome 29:12 32 Winckowski 34:6
  7. Here is the soxprospects.com ETA for our top prospects: 2022 17 Crawford Mid 2022 (Now?) 1. Casas 5. Duran 13. Seabold 23. Fitzy 28. Wong Late 2022 16. Downs 30. German 2023 4. Bello 10. Groome 11. Murphy 12. Winckowski (I'd say 2022) 29. R Hernandez Late 2023 7. Mata 25. Hamilton 2024 3. Yorke 15. Rafaela 18. Binelas 21. Ward 22. Koss Late 2024 2. Mayer 19. Jimenez 20. McDonough 24. Lugo 2025 9. Gonzalez 14. Jordan 26. Paulino 27. Bonaci 2026 8. Bleis Pretty well spread out.
  8. I'm sure he looked long and hard, but how could any GM pass on the best player in the draft, Mayer? BTW, the Rays were not really all that great at drafting pitchers. They were great at trading for some, and trading away their own pitchers just seconds before they declined steeply. They haven't done poorly, but they haven't done great, either. 1st & Second Round Pitching Picks since 2008: 24. T Guerrieri '12 42. Jeff Ames '11 52. Blake Snell '11 59. Grayson Garvin '11 29. Ryne Stanek '13 31. Drew Rasmussen '17 16. M LIberatore '18 31. S McClanahan '18 36. JJ Goss '19 40. Seth Johnson '19 24. Nick Bitsko '20
  9. I'm not sure those hold enough value to even think it matters losing one or both of these guys.
  10. It might not be right, but nothing else has worked. If he waits until Sale and or Paxton return before making Houck or Whitlock the closer, it might be too late.
  11. This was our first extra inning win, right? I think we were 0-5 or 0-6 before today.
  12. We've lost our share of games like this, so it still feels good.
  13. That one inning really ruined his numbers for the season, but I guess the minors is where you have to find out just how long a guy can go. Murphy looked good, again, and has his ERA down to 1.91. 5.1 IP 4H 1ER 2BB 4K I agree on moving Granberg up to AAA. It's not like we're loaded with OF'er at Woo. Greenville keeps losing, but they score a lot. Binelas, Lugo and Rafaela had 2 hits each. Binelas with his 10th dinger and Rafaela with his 12th 2B.
  14. Not for me. He needs more than 1 good game to move off the bad list.
  15. Now that Wacha is back, it's time to anoint Houck the closer and end all this crap. Schreiber should pass Robles on the depth chart.
  16. Big win with no JD in the line-up and Big Nate coming off a shaky start. He was a K machine, today. The pen struggles, but a nice team win.
  17. The thing is, if it was a ball hit over the wall, why would the defenders try to hustle and risk injury to prevent extra runs? It kinda has to be that way.
  18. Good points. He's got his OPS over .700, now, which is more than quite a few regulars can say.
  19. Watch him "change the question," now.
  20. I've agreed $7M was fine. We could have played him in LF, too. (We should have traded Verdugo, "while his stock was high!")
  21. I've never heard anyone say it was a fluke. They said things like, "trading him while his stock was high," or "he will likely regress," but maybe I missed some posts. His HRs were not that surprising. His .816 OPS was a career, but not by all that much. His career OPS before us was .776. The one thing that kind of jumped out about 2021 was the 572 PAs. His previous high was 440. His ISO of .242 was actually his second lowest in 4 seasons. The jump in rbi was a result of having more men on base and having way more PAs.
  22. I'd have much preferred Renfroe at $7M than JBJ at even the same money, despite his poor defense in an important position like RF in Fenway. You do seem to be "sticking up for Renfroe," and I'm not sure why you are denying you are. To me, this debate turned into the value of rbi's then HRs vs other stats, and not necessarily "metrics," like you claimed. OBP is not a metric. Good defense is not a metric. BA and speed are not metrics. Renfroe had power and a strong arm that wasn't always that accurate. His arm helped mitigate some of his defensive deficiencies, especially in Fenway, but he was not as big of an overall plus, as many felt he was. At $3M, yes. At $7M, not so much. I was fine with trading Renfroe and saving $7M, but not for a higher priced guy like JBJ. To me, the prospects better pan out, of this was a bad trade. Unlike you, I see value in prospects, before they make the bigs. All stars were once prospects.
  23. I'm not sure what that has to do with it, but Kike does have about 20 points on Renfroe with OBP, and he was decent power, too... not Renfroe power, but his defense way outshines Renfroe's. Renfroe's rbi total, last year, was largely a result of having good hitters in front of him. He placed 13th in team BA with RISP. (7th among starters) Even Vaz had a batter BA w RISP. His OPS was better without men in scoring position. Also, for someone who harps on career numbers vs recent 3-4 year stretches, you sure seem to be focusing on Renfroe's last 2 seasons. Before coming to BOS, he was a .228 hitter with a .290 OBP, coming from a team that did not want to pay him $3M for a season. Yes, he averaged 85 rbi per 162 games, but only 49 were runs knocked in by players not named Renfroe.
