  1. Then, painted it black!
  2. You act like 50 IP for Sale is a certainty. I do value durability and do favor Giolito over Sale, and I’ve never wanted Gio. I also value projected skill level. I do t want Bello and 4 Gio/pivettas.
  3. I’m guessing Bernardino.
  4. Only if he needs to be in AAA, or someone else looks way more deserving of the 26.
  5. Honestly, I feel better about Sale in 2024 than I did about Kluber before ‘23, Wacha or Hill in ‘22 or Richards/Perez in ‘21. The $10M “saved” is equal to what we paid Kluber and Richards and almost as much as Wacha+Hill.
  6. I never said we would go over the first line. I said we “could and should.” I’m expecting we won’t. If I had to predict, I’d guess we end up $5-15M under the first tax line. It would not shock me, if we end up $16-20M under. I have no expectations on the budget.
  7. I’m not sure Mata has trade value as he might not be good enough to make a team’s 26, but he’d be the one to trade, first- or DFA. Slaten could be sent back or we trade someone to his old team, which would allow us to put him in AAA. I could see including Crawford, Houck, Whitlock or Schreiber/Wink as part of a package for a very good SPer.
  8. Yes! He has an option, so we have more AAA depth.
  9. So, as of now, our 13 opening day pitching staff might be… S1 Bello S2 Giolito S3 Crawford S4 Pivetta S5 Houck R1 Jansen R2 Martin R3 Winckowski R4 Whitlock R5 Schreiber R6 Slaten (rule 5) R7 Mata (out of options) The pen have good depth at AAA: Campbell Murphy Kelly Weissert Fitts Guerrero I think I’m forgetting someone
  10. Wong Maybe Abreu Longshot EValdez, Rosier, DHam…
  11. So, 2 more Pivettas and we’re all set!
  12. Only if Gio pitches better, and Sale goes 50 or less or 100-179.
  13. Sale might have a higher ceiling, but I would not say our rotation got worse by flipping Sale and Gio. At least we can expect 30 starts from Gio.
  14. Grissom is no longer a prospect, IMO. ENOUGH about the Yorke draft. If it ends up being a bust, add it to half the other first picks we’ve had and congrats on getting this one right.
  15. I feel the same way. Everything that can be said, already has been. Unless someone reveals more information, I think there is nothing more to be said.
  16. Well, our two major holes are still not filled, so my level of optimism is unchanged from a few days ago. I’m glad we found a 2Bman, and improved a roster slot on paper, so some action looks better than none, I guess.
  17. Yes we often say things that sound like we think it is fact. We leave off the “I think” we blew it. I do still think some posters are 100% certain Bogey would have taken 162/6. More think he’d have taken $200M/8 had it been offered prior to Nov ‘23 or before. I actuall th think he probably would have, but I’m very far from certain.
  18. One really good SPer would be enough to give us some hope, but I’m tired of going into seasons thinking we need 5 of 6 big concern areas to all work out to just make the playoffs. I’d like to have a roster with a consensus expectation we make the playoffs and are likely to advance. I know nothing is certain, but try to plan on making it as certain as possible. Adding two very good SPers takes us much closer to that expectation of being a strong contender. I realise adding Monty and Snell assures nothing, but I’d like our odds.
  19. Yes, maybe, and I agreed with this before. So far, we have not filled the 1-2 slots in the rotation and have just improved the 3/4 slot, on paper.
  20. Agreed. It’s easy to say a GM coulda/shoulda gotten more, but it’s likely there we not many teams wanting to pay Sale $10M and give up their #3 prospect to do it, or pay $17-27M and give nothing back. Like the Betts trade. I assume the GM felt it was the best out there at the time.
  21. I have not lost hope, but the Sale-Gio flip looks more sideways to me than others. I do see it as a gain, but we still have two major holes in the rotation and less and less options to fill them. I was fine with Sale as our 4/5 with Pivetta or Crawford on standby.
  22. When some posters say we blew it, t they sound like they think it is certain. Maybe I’m wrong on that. Maybe they just think it was way more likely Bogey would have said yes tganks I do, which of course is fine. Maybe a poster or two will chime in and say hey think it’s a fact, the Sox blew it with Bogey or even Betts. On Betts, I suggested we offer $400M/12, and I think he’d have taken that but im still not certain.
  23. Agreed. I actually wish it means this: $37Mmskes it hard to add 2 very good SPers, unless one is by trade. $47M makes it easier to add 2 very good SPers without trading top prospects for one.☝️
  24. Are you assuming we spend to within $5-6M of the tax line again? I’m not. I think we can and should. Hell, I think we can and should spend up to $1M below the second line, but we can never count on JH and expect a healthy winter spending budget.
