  1. But, but, but what about Paxton. Maybe we sign Stroman or Imanaga.
  2. Are you sure Teoscar is better than O’Neill in RF on D?
  3. lol! So we basically swapped Sale for Giolito and Grissham, this week.
  4. Shocking. Now, I wonder why we aren’t spending on top pitching even more than I have, this whole winter.
  5. I’m not optimistic, but some hope still remains. Once Snell and Monty are gone, Imanaga or Stroman would not be enough, IMO, so the top pitcher would have to be by trade. That is a possibility, so hope is not gone. I’m just looking at a5 year trend and thinking I need to see the change to believe it. I still have hope but no optimism or expectations for us adding 2-3 excellent players.
  6. I agree. To me, we have 2 or maybe 3 major slots needing improvement, and #1 is a solid 1-2 SP. 2 is 2B 3 might be CF/RF or C We have $37M to stay under the tax line and should be able to go$19M above that. We have trade capital to use, as well. Absolutely no reason for not filling all 3 slots with very good to excellent players.
  7. I see him as a solid 2 with a chance to become a #1. He might be close to the best SPer with 3 or more years of control that is a realistic trade candidate. Would you trade Duran and Mayer for Luzardi and Berti, then sigh Teoscar to play LF?
  8. I do t know a single poster who did not want Bogey back. I’m not concerned about JHs wallet, but if you think he’d pay Bogey what SDP gave him and then sign more players to build up around Bogey, dream on.
  9. We still need a solid 1-2, or this season does not look promising, at all.
  10. True. Look at Puvetta’s finish, too, and he has a larger body of work as an innings eater. Like I said, I’m fine with either one. With Sale counted in the 5, both will likely start 20+ games even we add a #1 or 2/3 type.
  11. I’m fine with Crawford over Pivetta, but I like Pivetta as our 5 a little more. Crawford last 10 starts: 4.75 ERA, and there was no divorce. I’m ok with Pivetta to the pen to make way for Gio. We can yank a starter real early with Nick in the pen (or Kutter.)
  12. I’m with you on the project thing, but if we add a top pitcher, Gio is a good secondary get. On Nate, I loved the guy, but he was not a horse. He only started over 23 games in one of the 4 seasons of that 4 year contract: 23/33 9/12 32/33 20/33 84/111 is75% of available starts.
  13. I doubt we tried hard enough, but we don’t know what Bogey would have accepted, either. I want to think he’d have taken $200M/8, but who knows
  14. I wanted Bogey to stay but not at anywhere near what SDP paid him. I do think we had a chance to extend him for less, but how much less May never be known. It’s all speculation. While his defense seems to have levelled off at a not a really bad level, his offensive production has dropped noticeably over the last 2-3 years.
  15. Get one more starter and Crawford moves to that already nice pen.
  16. I’ve never mentioned those splits. His 2022 numbers were not impressive either. He may end up being a good or even great signing. At his age, a bounce back is certainly in play. I’m just tired of relying on bounce back or project type starters. I’m with
  17. I updated possible offers
  18. I know the arguments, well. We have no idea he’d have taken $160M/6 at any point during his last 2 years here. Or even $200M/8. I wish we did extend him. I don’t think the value per contract has made Bogey look better than Story, so I don’t agree with ghe point I responded to. Of course, I wish we had Bogey over Story, but not at these price comps.
  19. I’m usually big on the last 3 year sample size for players, although his trend is scary. Here is where Giolito has placed in some key categories since 2021: 151 pitchers with 200+ IP 6th in GS w 94 45th in K-BB% at 17.9 46th in fWAR at 6.9 68th xFIP 3.97 109 in ERA 4.43 109 in ERA- at 106 137 inHR/9 at 1.6 If you divide 150 SPs by 5 starters per team, Giolito slots as a… #2 fWAR #3 xFIP #4 ERA- #5 HR/9
  20. The optimist view: 167 GS since 2018 is 5th most in MLB. He’s been a horse. 4.14 xFIP in that time places him in the middle. The pessimist view: 4.48 ERA places him in the bottom third tier since ‘18. (That’s worse than Kluber,Matz, Paxton, Stroman and many others.) 105 ERA- is still bottom third, as is his BB/K and HR/9. Last 2 year numbers are frightening: 119 ERA- (100th out of 108- just barely above Kluber), but his 4.08 xFIP places 62nd.
  21. He’s a risk. That’s not a maybe.
  22. I’m not sure we will spend the $37M or so we have left to stay under the tax line. Staying $5-9M under seems to be a common thing, lately, so maybe $30M might be what Brez still has to work with- emphasis on “might.” That’s a lot of money, especially if we focus it on adding just 2 players. IMO, SP2 and 2B jump out as the highest need areas. A trade could fill one or allow us to fill 3 higher need slots. I know tge rumours have us out of the Monty race and maybe Luke warm on Snell, but $37M might be enough to add Monty or Snell plus Chapman. Trade for Polanco or Drury might put us over. Monty or Snell plus polanco or Drury certainly works. Stroman or Imanaga Chapman Polanco or Drury would leave us under the tax line. .
  23. I’ve always disliked building a rotation from back. Add a 1 or2 and push down what you have already. $19M is not chump change, although the short deal mitigates the risk a bit. That being said, I do prefer Giolito as a SP and Houck or Crawford in the pen than forcing one of them to try and start 30 games and 175 IP.
  24. I would, but that does not mean I want to hand him away. BTV gives him a value of 34, which I feel is high, but I’d prefer to go with Rafaela and Abreu in CF than Duran. Adding T.H and O’Neill looks OK for corner OF, but not so much if it forces Duran to FT CF. That’s not a good defensive OF.
  25. I don’t disagree. I do think it will be somewhat better than 2023, if… Story stays healthy We add a decent defensive 2Bman (O would be nice) Casas improves (not a sure thing)
