  1. LOL Then why do you always make it so?
  2. Going into most road trips, my thinking is that if we win .500, then it's a decent road trip. It's frustrating when you think the team could have been 6-4, but I'll take 5-5 on a trip that takes us to the west coast. What's even better is that we were able to gain on the Yankees in the process.
  3. I have never understood the need to use those silly nicknames when talking about players on our beloved team. IMO, it sounds very juvenile and it takes away from the credibility of an argument.
  4. The team's pitching in May is more along the lines of what we thought we were getting. I currently have no confidence in this offense. None. It's worse than last year.
  5. And here I got all excited thinking that you were turning into a stat geek. Well, I wouldn't spend money on a BP subscription, especially if you know you're not going to use it after a couple of months. Like I said, there is more than enough free stuff out there. Spend your money on something else.
  6. Baseball Prospectus is one of my favorite sites, along with Fangraphs. I don't have a subscription to BP, but I haven't found the need for one. There is enough free stuff on that site, as well as on other sites that you can find pretty much any information that you want/need. I did not realize that you were into sabermetrics.
  7. Our offense seems to do better against aces than it does against the scrubs. Go figure.
  8. Looks like the good Koji has returned!
  9. To add to my previous post: Again, I'm not saying it was the right call. I'm just saying that there are reasons why managers make decisions that you have no idea about. Decisions are not always cut and dry.
  10. Too late. I'm already excited. I realize that the Mariners have not been an offensive powerhouse this season, but give credit where credit is due. As far as Porcello goes, take away his one bad start, and he has a 3.19 ERA. That's a 2.10 ERA and a 21/5 K/BB ratio.
  11. The managers may not have all the facts, but they certainly have more than you do regarding their players and the specific circumstances. Even though Farrell admitted his call was a mistake, he had some good rationale for why he chose to pitch to Cruz. Not saying that the call was right, but two points about what Farrell said: 1. For those of us who are believers in the human element side of things, I like that Farrell wanted to go after Cruz, and give his pitching staff the vote of confidence that they were good enough to challenge anyone. 2. No matter how right or wrong a call is, it's still on the players to execute.
  12. Because if the Sox were scoring runs like they should be, then we would be winning more games. If the Sox scored 5 runs every game, which they were projected to be able to do, or at least get close to, their record would be 24-13. I realize that we aren't going to be able to score 5 runs every game, but even if we split the difference, their record would be 21-16. In either case, the Sox could be leading the division if their offense were scoring runs as projected, even as bad as the starting rotation has been.
  13. Buchholz looked doggone good last night. Dare we get excited?
  14. I will go out on a limb here and say that the Sox staff went over Masterson's medicals and had every reason to believe that his velocity would return. With regard to Porcello, my opinion that he was/is a #2 pitcher has nothing to do with your opinion. It's based on facts. He has not pitched like one so far this season, but he was a #2 pitcher last season. I was just pointing out the discrepancy that you are not ready to acknowledge Porcello as a #2 based on last season alone, which is fine, but you are ready to assume a disturbing downward trend based on last season alone.
  15. Coincidence is exactly what it is.
  16. Saying that his decision was a bad decision is one thing. I would agree with that. Saying that Farrell cost the team the game is another. As I stated before, with Clay pitching as well as he did, the team should have never been in the position where the game was tied going into the 9th. Poor offense aside, even if Farrell had chosen to walk Cruz, there is no guarantee that the Sox win that game. I can agree that Farrell made the wrong call, but I can't agree that he cost the team the game. IMO, the offense cost us that game.
  17. I say on the surface because I didn't have all the facts. Neither did you. Sometimes, something that seems so obviously right or wrong is not as clear cut as you think it is. You are not privy to all the information that the manager and coaches have at their disposal. There might have been a very sound reason why Farrell chose to do what he did. That said, I agreed that it seemed like the wrong move, and Farrell owned his mistake. He shares part of the blame, as does the whole team, being that baseball is a team sport. The idea that Farrell lost the game single handedly is ludicrous. His decision was not even the biggest reason that we lost the game, not by a long shot.
  18. Exactly. And if you take away the unearned runs that the other teams have gifted us, it looks even worse. If we were expected to be an average offense, that would be one thing. But when the offense was expected to carry this mediocre pitching staff, these losses are a lot more frustrating.
  19. I agree that we should have been able to gain another game on the Yankees last night, and that this offense is dreadful. However, unless we're playing the Yankees head to head, it's hard to make up ground quickly. As it stands, we gained 2 games in 4 days, and that's being on a west coast swing. I'll take it. But seriously, if the offense were hitting like they were expected to hit, we could be leading the division, despite the fact the our rotation has been so bad.
  20. I wouldn't go that far, but he is no Francona, that's for sure.
  21. On the surface, it does seem like a rather questionable move. That said, this loss is on the pathetic offense. The team should have never been in a 1-1 tie to begin with. Clay pitches a gem, and all this "#1 offense" can muster is one measly run. The offense has to come through when we get a start like that from one of our starters. The offense has scored 7 runs in the last four games. I am way more frustrated with them than I am with the pitching. As I've said many times, this team was built around offense. They are not getting the job done, plain and simple.
  22. Perhaps you didn't call his season a fluke, but you also do not see Porcello as a #2 pitcher based on his last season. If one year is enough to establish a disturbing downward trend, then one year should be enough to establish an upward trend. At the time that Masterson was signed, I don't know if there was any indication that his velocity had returned. However, it is not unreasonable to expect the velocity to return when a pitcher regains his health after an injury.
  23. Maybe, maybe not. But the first goal is to get to the postseason. Once there, it really is more or less a crapshoot. At any rate, I fully expect the FO to add another pitcher by the deadline if the Sox stay in the race.
