    They are pitching better this month than they pitched in April, 11th in the AL, and 20th in the MLB, and even better than that in the last 2 weeks or so. Even you agreed that they would show some improvement over how they started.

    Why is it conceivable for Tampa, Baltimore, or the Yankees to catch fire, but not the Sox? I disagree that this is not a good team. It is a good team. They are just playing bad ball right now. There's a difference.

    It is conceivable that what you say is true. However, do you really expect no improvement/regression from this offense over what we've seen so far, especially in the month of May? So maybe they won't be the top offense in the AL, like many projected, but they should certainly be a good bit better than what we've seen so far.

    The starting pitching had improved, up until last night. They are what they are - a mediocre staff. They are going to have their clunkers. IMO, the offense has to improve more than the pitching does.

    Oh no doubt. We have played terribly to date. I'm not trying to say otherwise. What I'm trying to say is that our level of performance does not match our level of talent, and there is no reason to believe that it will not get better.

    It should be 2 games worse, which is not far worse. Call it an enigma if you want, which clearly you want, but not because you really think that it's an enigma. The real enigma is still why the offense is not hitting and scoring runs. I am not denying that we have been fortunate in terms of run differential, not to mention that many of those runs were unearned, but Pythagorean W-L and run differential will become more significant as the season wears on.

    That's true, but there's a long way to go. I'm not ready to crown them as division champs yet. That said, as much as I dislike the Rays, better them than the Yankees.

    Our record is not an enigma. The enigma is why we our offense has been so bad.

    I am excited about our great young players, Xander, Mookie, and Swihart, even though they aren't performing right now the way we hope they eventually will. Swihart was thrown into a tough situation before he was ready. Xander and Mookie are still very young, and likely feeling more pressure because the veteran guys are stinking so badly. They will emerge.

    The Sox are waiting until June to take off. Their philosophy is that you can't really experience pleasure until you've experienced pain. The pain part is almost over. Wait for it....

    You have to expect a game like last night's every now and then, probably more often with our rotation than with some others. That is why losing all of those well-pitched games hurts so much. When the pitching holds the opponent to under 5 runs, the offense has to come through.

    I need a hug after last night's game. LOL I don't believe that this team doesn't have the heart. They have it, they just need to have a couple of things break their way, and they'll get on a roll.

    I'm sure they could choose some easily identifiable substances, like pine tar, and it wouldn't be difficult to recognize substances that weren't compliant. If pine tar were allowed, then perhaps pitchers wouldn't find the need to use other substances, like sun tan lotion.

    I used rosin when I used to bowl (until I injured my shoulder). It worked great. Of course, I didn't sweat much, and we also had the hand air blowers.
