  1. Yeah, it was another squandered opportunity. OTOH, as badly as the Sox have been playing, they're still in the hunt.
  2. It seems like there are too many innings where we can't get a hit until there are already two outs. Then, nothing.
  3. You need a hug Spudboy.
  4. You need a hug MVP.
  5. Just as the pitching was bound to regress, so is the offense. There really is no explanation for how bad they've been. It's uncanny.
  6. And hopefully, longer than one game.
  7. Calling JBJ up was going to make people happy too. LOL I don't know what is ailing this offense, but I really hope Castillo can provide a spark.
  8. It seems that pretty much every pitcher uses some type of foreign substance to give himself an advantage. Clearly, the rule that forbids foreign substances is not being enforced. If MLB doesn't want to enforce the rule, then why even have it? They need to either enforce it consistently, or do away with it. If it's really a safety concern, then MLB should approve a few substances that give the pitcher a better grip, but don't otherwise give the pitcher an advantage. Then, if a pitcher is caught using anything else, whether it's blatant or not, he should be tossed.
  9. From a completely selfish standpoint, I do not want to see the season shortened. IMO, the offseason is far too long as it is. We need baseball! In terms of money saved from fewer injuries and DL stints, I'm not sure that 8 fewer games would make that much of a difference. Playing 154 games would still be a grind. I don't think that having 8 more days to rest in the offseason would make much of a difference either.
  10. I want to see our line up bat around and score 6 runs in one inning. When was the last time we've seen a rally like that? I also want to see our team win more than 1 or 2 games in a row. We've only done that once this season, and that was back on April 9-11. Enough messing around. Time for the Sox to get hot. Go Sox!!!
  11. I was reading an article by Speier today in which he mentioned the team's .259 BABIP, which is the worst in the majors this year. No team since 2000 has had a BABIP below .269 and only 4 teams have been below .275. That's how bad their current BABIP is. Also, their strike out rate is the 2nd lowest in baseball, which means more balls in play. They should be getting more hits and scoring more runs. Why they aren't is an enigma.
  12. This thread makes me very happy. It's incredible what kind of stats you can find out there. For stats, my two sites of choice are Fangraphs and Baseball Reference. Between those two sites, I have been able to find pretty much everything that I've looked for.
  13. I don't quite get this CP. Does that mean that scouts are misleading too?
  14. Last night was a good start to the "not sucking at Fenway any longer" campaign. Apparently, Napoli and Pedroia watched some video on the flight home from the west coast, and Pedroia figured out what Nap's problem was. My question is, why the heck hadn't the hitting coaches figured this out a long time ago? Isn't that their job?
  15. ^^ This No one thought the Sox would be able to run away with the division. The fact that they have been underperforming and are only 2.5 games out is rather encouraging to me. Just think what will happen when they hit their stride.
  16. It's not about disagreeing with certain moves. There are certain moves that I don't necessarily agree with, the signing of Sandoval being one of them. The team, as constructed, could easily be in first place if they were playing at their projected levels of performance. The fact that nearly all the players have been underperforming is on the players, perhaps the coaching staff and Farrell, but not on the GM.
  17. There are some exceptions, but on the whole, the left/right splits for switch hitters are smaller than the left/right splits for those who bat from one side only. In other words, most switch hitters would do worse batting from their "strong" side against a like-handed pitcher.
  18. Personally, I hope the Sox keep him and let him play everyday in AAA to see if he can regain his stroke.
  19. I"m not sure there is much to question about how this team has been constructed. To date, the pitching and the offense have both grossly underperformed for the most part. If they were pitching and hitting close to their expected production levels, we would be leading the division. I know that Ben is going to shoulder the blame if this team doesn't improve, but should he really be held accountable for a team that has underperformed to the extent that this team has?
  20. Farrell hinted today that Castillo will be brought up soon. He is on paternity leave right now, and he may be with the Red Sox shortly after he returns if not as soon as he returns.
  21. VA, have I mentioned how much I like you?
  22. I think people think that giving up switch hitting is easier than it is. If you've batted from the right side against LHP your whole career, turning around and batting from the other side is probably not as easy as it seems. I'm not sure there would be a significant improvement from Panda batting lefty against lefty. Same reason Varitek never did it. Victorino did it out of necessity, and is probably the exception to the rule.
  23. I'm glad you're back. I missed you!
  24. LOL Key word being "currently". If it makes you feel any better, I still think the Sox will win the division. Yes, the hitting has to get better, and it will. Good news - Victorino has looked better at the plate.
