  1. The thing with defensive stats is that the sample is way too small to conclude anything after 2 months of baseball. Even one season is not a large enough sample. They are good to look at to get some sort of feel, but at this point you have to take them with a grain of salt.
  2. It's a new month. Prepare to be amazed!
  3. Good point. Look out AL East! Here come the Sox!
  4. We are looking for positives here. Work with me.
  5. But that is changing. The Allure of the Cubs is growing.
  6. Actually, 162 has a lot more divisors than 154.
  7. At least Kelly pitched decently.
  8. If our hitters were hitting like murderer's row, we would be in first place. We just needed our staff to keep us in the hunt until some of the youngsters could be called up or we could acquire a pitcher by trade. The starters have done that.
  9. I'm surprised he waited this long.
  10. I really should just quit baseball. These losses are too hard on me.
  11. That one was a heartbreaker. This is the kind of loss that will keep me awake tonight.
  12. BTW, you guys are still really depressing.
  13. As bad as we've looked, things are never as bad as they seem when you're losing. Two good weeks of baseball and this team can be in first place.
  14. That's the reason to be hopeful CP. There are over 100 games left to be played.
  15. LOL What can I say that I haven't already said 100 times? I am teetering into Fred territory. LOL That said, I stand behind my defense of the construction of this roster. This in not Ben's fault. This is on the players and the coaches.
  16. The futility of our offense is mind boggling. There have been far too many games in which it took them until the 5th inning or later to get their first hit.
  17. Some good news:
  18. Never mind then.
  19. I love to see the passion and fire in the players too. Beckett was one of my favorite pitchers to watch when he first joined the team because of his passion. But it's almost a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing with the fans. I don't know how many posts I've seen bashing Papi for being thrown out of a game for arguing the checked swing call. How many posts have I seen knocking Papi for beating up on the telephone in the dugout. How many posts have I seen bashing Lackey for showing his passion and competitiveness on the mound. What about all the Youk haters because he took every at bat like it was the final out of the WS? As far as the excitement that the youth brings, we already have a good bit of youth on this team. There should already be a lot of energy out there on the field. The fact that there isn't is troublesome. Also, there has to be a balance of youth and experienced vets. Too much youth does not usually equate to a winning formula. That said, I understand the desire to call up the young pitchers. Maybe it will spark this team. It certainly can't get any worse.
  20. My vote is for Pedroia as a player/manager. If anyone can get this team going, he can.
  21. I thought we agreed that we were going to let Sandoval be fat. Look at Fielder. Dude is raking right now. As far as the coaching staff goes, you do have to wonder about them. I, too, questioned why Pedroia is the one finding these flaws in other hitter's mechanics. Where is the coaching staff in all of this? It's like last year when one of the analysts showed some side by side video of Buchholz' delivery, and noted that that should be an easy problem to fix. I could clearly see the difference in his mechanics, and I'm just a lowly fan. Why hadn't the pitching coach corrected this problem last year? There are a lot of people calling for Ben's job. As of now, besides the players themselves, I think the coaching staff, Farrell included, are the ones whose jobs should be on the line.
  22. Sometimes the best laid out plans can go awry. There is nobody, scout or stat geek, who could have imagined the Sox being as bad as they are. I get what you're saying about this happening two years in a row, but I would offer this. Two years in a row would be one thing if the FO had gone with the same team and/or the same philosophy for both years. However, they recognized what they felt were the fatal flaws from 2014 (lack of offense and lack of depth) and did a pretty good job of fixing them, IMO. At least on paper. It's really uncanny that the offense is as bad as it is.
  23. I never quit on the team. I am watching every game, but it's rare that I can watch the whole game live. I'm usually about 30 minutes to an hour behind. Because of that, I can't post in the game threads. Even when the Sox are playing badly, my idea of a perfect Saturday night (or any night for that matter) is sitting in the comfort of my home, watching the Sox game.
  24. It was a great deal up front, even if Rodriguez doesn't pan out. Trading 2 months of a reliever for a top prospect starting pitcher is a no brainer. The Sox wanted major league ready players in return for Lackey and Lester. The FO had no intention of punting away 2015.
  25. Two things that are really annoying with this team: 1. The starters' inability to throw a shut down inning after our offense ties the game or takes the lead. 2. The offense's inability to have a big inning because every time they have the potential for one, the next batter comes up and GIDPs.
