  1. I'm not even quite sure what he's talking about, but I laughed at the word "anus".
  2. I think you all know how I voted. And you guys are still really depressing.
  3. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately LOL, I don't have time to respond to all of the posts in this thread that I want to, but let me just say that I disagree with 90% of what's being said in this and the other threads. I think it's crazy that so many of you are already ruling Ben's offseason signings as failures for the next 4/5 years based on roughly 1/3 of a season, and that you already want to trade these guys away. These guys are good players. They really are. For some reason they are all underperforming. Will they continue to underperform and stink like they do now? It's very unlikely.
  4. Since this owership took over, going into each season, I have always felt like the team that we had should be competitive. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. As a fan, all I can ask is that the GM to put together at team that should be competitive. I feel like both Theo and Ben have done that every year. I know that even the best laid plans do not always work. That said, I love the Red Sox. I can't help but to defend them.
  5. Let me clarify my statement about the computer models. I am not talking about computer models that Ben used to build the team. I'm sure he uses both computer projections and scouting reports when assembling a team. I am talking about the computer projection systems that project the standings after the teams are assembled. These are not Sox projection systems. They are not biased. They are about as objective as you can get, and they are extremely comprehensive. They were all in agreement that, on paper, the Sox should be good enough to win the division. As a GM, that's all you can do. Put together a team, on paper, that is good enough to win. What happens on the field is beyond the GM's control.
  6. Spud, I know it doesn't look good. However, teams are never as bad as they look when they're losing. And things can change in a heartbeat. How bad did the Jays look before their current hot streak?
  7. As bad as this team has been, I would be bummed if the game is rained out. LOL I need my Sox baseball!
  8. I like your strategy! The rest of us have been putting too much pressure on these bums to win. They couldn't handle it. LOL It's almost like reverse psychology mojo! New mojo = new win streak! Let's do it team!!!
  9. Your mojo has done well recently, much better than the rest of us. My mojo tends to have the opposite effect. LOL
  10. No I don't, but I would not say their season is over yet either. Stranger things have happened. The Sox are in a better position than the Phillies are for several reasons.
  11. Speaking of said infraction, has anyone noticed that this team really went downhill shortly after the infraction was made? Coincidence? I think not!
  12. Rationally, I know mojo has nothing to do with whether the team wins or loses. However, that is not going to stop me from continuing to do the exact same things when the team wins. It may not have any effect on the team, but it sure makes me feel better.
  13. A season is never over on June 15.
  14. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I am very confident that Ben called Beane and at least inquired about Donaldson, and was told that he was not available. Otherwise, if Donaldson was available before the Sox signed Sandoval, Beane would have called the Sox and let them know that, and we would have heard some rumblings about it.
  15. Did you really think Hanley would be this bad in left field though? Left field is the 2nd easiest defensive position to play. Moving from SS to LF is a move that should have helped his defense at least a little, not made him worse.
  16. As always, good posts in this thread SK. Thank you for being able to look at things objectively and with a voice of reason.
  17. The last person I would blame is Ben. He cannot be faulted for the level of underachievement this team has reached. When all the computer models say that this team should be one of the top offenses in baseball and that they should win the division, Ben did his job. I put the majority of the blame on the players, with a good degree of questioning on Farrell and the coaching staff as to why the players are underperforming to such an extent.
  18. SF was not reluctant to re-sign Sandoval. They offered him $95 million and indicted that they were willing to go up to $100 million. SF wanted him back. Sandoval chose to come to the Sox rather than returning to SF.
  19. First off, the Jays' package was Lawrie, Graveman, Sean Nolin, and Franklin Barreto. The Jays did not want to give up that much for Donaldson, but Beane insisted. It looks like the Jays still got the better of the deal, but I would not go so far as to say that Beane was fleeced. Secondly, the timing of events is not known. Supposedly, Anthoupolos had called Beane earlier and asked about the availability of Donaldson, and Beane said no way. It was only about 2-3 days before the trade actually occurred that AA called Beane again and the talks got serious. After the Sox already signed Sandoval. If Beane had planned to trade Donaldson all along, do you really think that Ben would be unaware of his availability? Beane, knowing that the Sox were in need of a 3rd baseman, surely would have contacted the Sox if Ben had not already contacted Beane.
  20. Theo's strength was building the farm system. He was also pretty good about knowing when not to re-sign our free agents, like Damon and Bay. As far as free agency goes, I think that Theo would have done a better job had he been given more autonomy and allowed to sign the players that he wanted to sign, rather than being pressured by Lucchino.
  21. So, if UN is still ahead of you in the standings, does that mean that you can't beat the soft competition?
  22. You may be right about no one else bidding on Hanley at the time the Sox signed him. His contract is still very reasonable though, and we don't know what kinds of offers he might have received. The Sox were not bidding against themselves for Pablo. The Giants offered $95 million, IIRC, and said they would be willing to match the Sox offer.
  23. I mostly agree with everything until the last line. If Panda were playing at the leve that he played at the last 2 seasons, his signing would be fine.
  24. I agree that JBJ should not be called if he is not going to be an everyday player. Sitting on the bench most of the time will not do any good. IMO, that's the reason why he has not been called up and the Sox signed De Aza instead.
  25. There's no way the Sox are losing today. UN Mojo + Eduardo = Win! Guaranteed!
