  1. If Schwarber can handle first base on a regular basis, I think that will help our overall defensive alignment quite a bit. Also, we need Kike back in CF rather than at 2B. Arroyo should help with that.
  2. I know it's confirmation bias, but Devers again had a big hit last night with 2 outs after Bogaerts failed to come through. Devers is clutch!
  3. We (myself excluded) sure don't have much confidence.
  4. Wouldn't that be a AAAA lineup?
  5. Barnes will be okay.
  6. Let's hope things work out with Schwarber at first. Merloni says he has great hands but still needs a little help with his footwork. All in all, I think the reports have been positive so far.
  7. He handled the pressure very well during the first part of the season. He is not a choker. He has lost his confidence, which is not the same thing.
  8. It's like if you did 1000 trials of flipping a coin 100 times, you would likely see an outlier where the # of heads and the # of tails is extremely lopsided.
  9. I think all players who make it to the MLB level handle pressure very well. Sure, there are slight differences to what degree, but I don't think it's anything that's significant. I think MLB players, for the most part, are very confident in their abilities, though they might lose that confidence from time to time, like Barnes seems to have currently done. But having that confidence goes along with being able to handle the pressure.
  10. The Ms have a -56 run differential. How they are 11 games over .500 is beyond me. But for now, thank you Ms.
  11. That was mostly tongue in cheek. However, I really believe the Sox will make the playoffs, and I wouldn't be surprised if we overcome the Yankees for the 1st WC spot.
  12. Fair points MVP and Bell. All I can say is patience. His reward may not have been immediate, but hopefully will be worth the wait come September.
  13. Yes, things will be so much easier for Cora and the Sox if Schwarber can play 1B well. JD should not be playing the field regularly, if at all. If Schwarber doesn't fit at 1B, then I guess Cora will find a way to get creative with his rosters.
  14. Strangely enough, I am not happy with Bogaerts' 'clutch' performance. To me, he does not seem to get it done in big moments. I would rather see Devers up to bat when we need a big hit than Bogaerts.
  15. You gotta love stat geeks. I certainly do.
  16. Staying under the tax limit this year really has nothing to do with this year. It's about the next 2-3 years. IMO, that has to be the mindset of a GM.
  17. It was an ugly game on many fronts. I can't argue that. Defense has gotten exponentially worse the second half of the season. I can't argue that either. IMO, the FO is doing the best they can, under the constraints that they have, to address the situation. I understand why most people feel like the Sox should have thrown those constraints out the window and should have gone bigger at the deadline. I don't agree with it though. Fingers crossed that Schwarber can play good 1B for us without getting injured. Having Arroyo back should help with the overall defense as well.
  18. Since joining their new teams: Anthony Rizzo: .217/.333/.413/.746, After the his first two games with the Yankees, it's even worse: .146/.229/.220/.449 Kyle Schwarber: .368/.538/.526/1.065 Yes, both batting lines are fueled by very low and very high BABIPs, respectively. And of course, we are talking very small samples. Regardless, maybe Schwarber is a better pick up, despite the fact that he hasn't played 1B yet, than most people are giving him credit for.
  19. Did last night's win give the team the spark, or dare I say 'momentum', to go on a serious run? Do we believe in players only meetings?
  20. The Yankees certainly have momentum. They may play well the rest of the way out because they have a good team. That said, after winning 10 in a row, their chances of winning today's game is not increased by any amount over what it would be if you didn't consider the record of the previous 10 games at all.
  21. The Yankees are peaking early. They will burn out by mid September. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are pacing themselves. The Yankees won't know what hit them.
