  1. I have probably seen them, but I honestly don't remember seeing them specifically. I'm sure they were good. LOL
  2. Yes, I can feel for the pitcher. It is a shame that he was robbed of his moment.
  3. Yeah, we're stuck with replay. I don't see it going anywhere. I really hope that we don't get to the point of using technology for balls and strikes.
  4. Hi SK, thanks for your response. I always enjoy and appreciate your level headed posts, and I always respect and almost always agree with your view points.
  5. I know you usually post a lot. I miss your posts. But I understand where you're coming from. Hope to see you posting more once the season starts.
  6. IMO, the solution is to hold the umps more accountable. If an umpire is not making calls correctly within a certain degree of accuracy, he gets replaced. Sure, there are always still going to be mistakes as long as humans are involved, but that's part of the beauty of the game. Watching a good manager rant was always fun.
  7. For me it has nothing to do with the length of the game. I don't mind sitting through 3-4 hour games, especially once summer gets here. I don't particularly like when a pitcher takes an eternity in between pitches, but I can live with it. I think bringing replay into baseball opened a can of worms that I did not want opened. Where will it end? Why are some plays reviewable while others aren't? Are certain plays more important than others? The answer to that question is no. Even a missed ball/strike call can affect the outcome as much as a missed HR call. I certainly never want MLB to go to automated balls/strikes or replays on ball/strike calls. The reason why no one complains about NFL replay is because, who watches football?
  8. There were many times before replay that the umps blew a call against the Sox and it ticked me off to no end, I'm not going to lie. There were also times with replay that the Sox got a call reversed in their favor which made me very happy. All that said, I still would prefer no replay. As far as that no hitter blown call goes, the thing about replay overturning it is that the moment would have been kind of lost by then.
  9. David Price's Baseball Reference WAR (listed first) versus Fangraphs WAR for the past 3 years: 2013 1.9 WAR 4.4 WAR 2014 3.6 WAR 6.1 WAR 2015 2.4 WAR 6.4 WAR Make of it what you will since my opinions about Sox players are meaningless. But I will tell you that B-R WAR does not think Price is worth $30 mil a year.
  10. Instant replay should have never been introduced into baseball. That said, I can't believe I'm watching real baseball games!
  11. Nice gesture and nice pic of (I'm assuming) you and Mike. I'm sure that Mike is smiling down at you and all of his Sox buddies here. Can't wait for tomorrow. Go Sox!
  12. First off, I wish you would post more often. Secondly, I think it means that they respect your opinions more than mine.
  13. OK then there is no sense in me arguing for any player anymore. Carry on.
  14. Holt should not be the everyday player in LF. He should be our utility player, a role in which he excelled. I believe the plan is for Holt and Young to platoon in LF, with Castillo playing for JBJ against tough lefties. In other words, Castillo is not currently slated to get many at bats. Who knows though? These management decisions are one big cluster**** right now.
  15. When said player is a career 3 WAR a year player, with one fluky year at -2 WAR, then yes, it's reasonable to think that he can regain that. It's called regression. If he had been a career -2 WAR player, then expecting him to suddenly be a +2 WAR would be unreasonable.
  16. Why? Does this make my arguments are invalid?
  17. FTR, I am not trying to come off as being holier than thou, although I'm sure it's coming across that way. I can't deny that I have made assumptions or judgments about people based on their appearances. And I have been very wrong.
  18. But Pablo has performed at that weight for his entire career, up until last year. Is it possible that he can regress? And people most definitely are biased against fat people. There is a lot of research on the topic. Here is just one of many blurbs:
  19. Haha. Now that's a funny joke!
  20. "Most" meaning I also trust Baseball Prospectus, The Hardball Times, SABR, and certain blogs by people like Joe Posnanski and Mitchell Lichtman as well. There are a few others, all of which are "saber" oriented. Baseball Reference has not been as saber oriented (though they are making great progress), but they are a great site for stats.
  21. There are some discrepancies, to be sure. Which is why the best assessment still comes from looking at as much information as possible. I will have to look more closely into how BR and BP calculate their WAR for pitchers.
  22. They might not be meant to bolster any argument, but they detract from an argument. Is it okay to make racial slurs in the name of humor?
  23. I have not denied that. He's played at that weight his entire career. Is it possible that he can play well again at that weight?
  24. Do you have any proof of your first three statements? I'm not sure where the "broken promises" come from either. Did Pablo promise to lose weight? Do we know for sure that Pablo is heavier than when he left the team last season? Honestly, I think people would be a lot more forgiving if Pablo was an alcoholic. I still believe that Pablo deserves a chance to start in real games because we don't know for sure how good he might be, but I respect your and everyone else's opinion about Pablo not deserving the starting job based on his limited range and his poor defense. I will not respect anyone's opinion on the type of character or person Pablo is based on assumptions made based on his appearance.
  25. I'm not trying to tilt anything. We all know that Pablo may not play that well. I have acknowledged that many times. I just think it is in the team's best interest to see if he can regain 2014's numbers, or some semblance of them. If he can, the team would be much better off than they would be if he sat on the bench and became more or less worthless. You all know that I'm right about that, whether you want Pablo to play or not. It's not a question of whether he will or won't rebound. No one can answer that. It's a question of IF he can, will the team be better off? Of course the answer is yes. But there's no way to know whether he can or can't unless he's given the chance to start. So, it's better to keep him on the bench and pretty much assure that he'll be worthless?
