  1. That is simply not true. As I said, I agree with you that they seem like the obvious moves, but they did not have a 'much higher' chance of success.
  2. I happen to agree with you on both calls. I would have pinch hit Leon for Holaday, and I would not have allowed Abad to face the righty. That said, I am willing to give Farrell the benefit of the doubt. As far as why Farrell didn't bring Ziegler in, Francona would have countered with a lefty. Farrell preferred the matchup he had with Abad. It worked out.
  3. LOL I don't know how any of us survive a season. I was so bad off in this game, after the Guardians doubled to lead off the 9th, I had to look at the final score to see if we won. (I DVR'd the game so it was already over by the time we I got to the 9th.) Once I saw that we won, I was able to finish watching the 9th. I couldn't handle it otherwise.
  4. No need to resort to insults.
  5. You know how much I hate the Yanks? I'm pulling for the Jays in this series.
  6. I bet (sig bet) on the Mets this year. LOL When I play fantasy baseball, I load my team up with as many Yankees players as possible, and will not have any Sox players on my team.
  7. Not really. The ability to score runs versus the ability to prevent runs is really the bottom line. Pythagorean W-L, ie run differential, correlates pretty well with remaining season record. It matters little whether the a +20 differential came in two 10 run blowouts or 5 four run wins.
  8. http://thepunkeffect.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Bobby-Valentine-Clown.jpg Nuff said.
  9. I lost a bet on Porcello last season. (Having me bet on someone is like the kiss of death for that player, and I should have known better than to bet, even though it was only a sig bet.) But I maintained that regardless of how poorly he pitched, and regardless of whether he bounced back this year or not, and regardless of whether he continues to pitch well for the remainder of his contract or not, the contract extension was a good bet. Not knowing how the 4 years (plus one year from the old contract) would play out, I would do that deal all day every day, and twice on Sundays.
  10. I would like to point out, to no one in particular, that Greinke was not pulled from the game until after he allowed 9 runs.
  11. This is really an absurd comment.
  12. LOL Farrell isn't even close to Bobby V.
  13. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I can almost guarantee you that Ben was not pushing this signing. It is not his MO.
  14. Thank you. This is pretty much my feeling on the matter.
  15. If he could rebound, we could get more for him in trade or be able to eat less of his contract. I can understand people not wanting him to be a member of our 25. It is still in the best interest of the team for Pablo to turn it around.
  16. I don't disagree. I could see a scenario where Shaw is traded or becomes a bench player, Pablo mans 3B for a couple of months until Moncada is ready to take over the position, then Pablo is traded to a team in need of a 3B. We would likely have to eat part of the contract, but pretty much any scenario would be better than having him not rebound and having to eat all of the money.
  17. Time to get Pomeranz his first win. Get it done team! Just win!
  18. I agree with this rationale. I think Farrell deserves more credit than he is given. He is not making his decisions haphazardly. We may not agree with his reasoning, but there is rationale that goes into his decisions.
  19. Well ARod = Poop (excrement reference!!!) and Papi = The Man, so there is no comparison between the two. As I said, I would not have started him, but I can certainly understand the reasoning behind doing so.
  20. I think it also has to do with the run expectancy of having a runner on 2nd versus having a runner on first. Obviously, run expectancy increases with a man on 2nd versus a man on first. I can certainly understand the argument for pinch running for him right away though.
  21. As I've stated before, every move made by a manager has a counter effect elsewhere, negating the overall impact of the move. A prime example of that is a pitcher walking the #8 guy in an NL game to pitch to the pitcher instead. I don't think anyone would argue with the move, and it almost always works. The counter effect is that it turns the line up over and allows the top of the order to start off the next inning, rather than starting the inning off with the pitcher batting and almost assuredly an automatic out. The fact of the matter remains that these changes have little impact.
  22. My hero.
  23. If Papi is in as much pain as is being reported, I would not have started him against LA. My understanding is that he asked to be put in the game. Also, wasn't Hanley still dealing with an injury?
  24. I think that there is a difference between having a runner on 1st versus having a runner in scoring position. I have often watched managers wait until a runner is on 2nd before putting in a pinch runner for him. I can agree with the argument of using Pomeranz instead of Wright. However, there might have been a viable reason not to use him. Porcello and Pomeranz were the next two scheduled starters. Perhaps that was the reason why? I just don't think it was the terrible decision that some of you are making it out to be. The injury to Wright makes it look bad when it really wasn't.
  25. It was a fluke. He couldn't go with the BP guys who might have needed to pitch in that game. None of our pitchers have much base running experience.
