  1. I have no problem with Harmony.
  2. I like this tweet about Sale's comments: Chad Jennings‏Verified account @chadjennings22 11h11 hours ago What's the opposite of throwing a teammate under the bus? Whatever it is, that's what Chris Sale just did. Blamed himself, praised Sandoval. I disagree with you about Pedroia's lack of leadership, but I 100% agree with you about Sale. I have been very impressed with how he owns up to his less than stellar performances and how he's all about the team. I like what he has to say. It's hard to believe that this is the same guy who cut up the throwback uniforms. LOL
  3. Indeed, we are fortunate to be able to platoon the two and presumably keep them both well rested. It's been a couple of weeks, but last I checked, Swihart was hitting under the Mendoza line.
  4. Well, the 2nd WC team hasn't been around long enough to make any definitive conclusions, but my guess would be that the WC teams will fare about as well as the division winners in the long run. Anything can and does happen when you're talking about short series.
  5. I'm sure there are exceptions to that statement, but it seems to hold mostly true. And even though the Mariners missed the playoffs, they won 93 games which is often good enough for a playoff spot.
  6. As I've posted before, the idea of 'protection' in a line up is mostly false. That said, I think that maybe Hanley is trying to do too much now that Papi is not in the line up. Hanley probably thinks that he has to be "the man" in the line up now. To me, it seems like he's swinging for the fences in every at bat, which maybe isn't anything new for him. But I do think that maybe he's trying to be the new Papi and trying to carry the burden of unrealistic expectations that he has placed on himself.
  7. The 2nd WC team makes it disadvantageous not to win the division from the standpoint that if you don't win the division, you have to play that one game WC play in game. But once a WC team is past that, I think they have about as good a chance to win it all as any other team. The cliche' that the playoffs are largely a crapshoot is true.
  8. He has also been somewhat unlucky with a .386 BABIP. His BABIP tends to be slightly higher than average, but usually not this high. Porcello won't be as good as he was last year, but he should be better than what his current ERA indicates.
  9. It's what Schilling used to always say. The teams whose original projected starters make the most starts will make the playoffs.
  10. It does appear that Johnson will be able to make the start on Saturday.
  11. Now it would be nice if we could take at least 2 of 3 from the Yankees.
  12. I am most definitely tired of losing to the Os and their annoying announcers make it 1000 times worse. I am very reactionary while I'm watching the games, but then I calm down and the rational side of me takes over.
  13. Very nice game by Beni today. That has to feel good. Hopefully, that gets him going again.
  14. He's been very good. Our Kimbrel-less pen did a very good job today. Excellent win!
  15. Red Sox Stats‏ @redsoxstats 19m19 minutes ago When a Red Sox player swims around a tag it is awesome and genius baserunning. When it happens against the Sox is awful and lazy defense. And this is why this dude is my favorite tweeter. Seriously, I don't get jumping all over Pablo for the base runner that did a good job of eluding the tag. I'm not saying that Pablo doesn't have his problems defensively, but that play was not one of them.
  16. It doesn't take much turn people's opinions one way or the other about the team or about individual players. It's a long season. Things can and probably will look a lot different at the end of the season than they do now.
  17. On a related note, Johnson left the game last night with a calf injury of some sort. No word yet on his status.
  18. I am concerned about ERod's recurring knee injury, but I'll remain optimistic that he'll return sooner rather than later and be a solid contributor this season.
  19. I agree that we have a pretty good situation at catcher. I am a huge Vazquez fan, which isn't a knock on Leon, but I'm good with a 3-2 catching split going either way.
  20. I agree. Take some of the pressure off until he breaks out of his slump. FTR, as much as I'm usually against the sac bunt, I think it was a good call to have Beni sac bunt in last night's game. Maybe something as simple as successfully contributing to that run scored will give Beni the boost that he needs.
  21. I posted at the end of April that while the poor start might keep us from leading the league in runs scored for the year, I wouldn't be surprised if we led the league in runs scored from that point on. I still believe that we could. My apologies to you if you posted this already (I'm sure you've posted something similar), but here is the drop off in OPS by player or position, courtesy of the great JoeB: Leon -174 Hanley -117 Pedey -76 Bogie +43 3B -176 LF -119 JBJ -72 Betts -88 As he points out, it's almost every player. You would expect drop off from some, but you would expect improvement in more than just Bogaerts. Personally, I think our offense will hit its stride and will be fine.
  22. There are a lot of things that don't show up in the stats. One can never work off of stats alone, and no one is suggesting that anyone could or should. As far as the batter hustling down to 1st to beat out the DP, that does show up in the base running stats, which is a component of WAR.
  23. And oh, the FOX announcers were such a pleasant improvement over the Os announcers.
  24. I'm not a huge fan of the sac bunt at all, and I'm not sure I'd give up an out to Ubaldo, but I can't complain too much about it being done in that particular situation, and not just because it worked.
