  1. Let me know how the book is Harmony. It sounds good, but I'm not sure there is anything new in there that wasn't in The Book or in Baseball Between the Numbers - Why Everything You Know About The Game Is Wrong. I can tell by the title of the chapter you mentioned in this post that this is my kind of reading.
  2. I will not accept anything less than 3 out of 4 in this split series. Ideally, we'll sweep the hapless Phils, but let's start with 3 out of 4. Win!!!
  3. More thoughts on Hanley: I posted before that I thought Hanley was trying to do too much, thinking that he had to be THE MAN since Ortiz is not longer in the line up. He looks to be swinging for the fences in every at bat. He has also become pull happy, which supports the idea that he's trying to do too much.
  4. There has been speculation that Hanley's shoulders are bothering him more than he is letting on, and that he is against any type of DL stint because he needs the PAs to have his $22 mil option kick in. As I said, it's only speculation.
  5. Fixed that for you. And I know I'm alone on this ship, but Pablo needs a longer look.
  6. Cashman took a page out of the Theo Epstein handbook.
  7. I hate the idea of depleting our farm any more, but you kind of have a point. The Sox are all in. They made that clear in the offseason. It would seem kind of counterproductive to now say that they won't pay the price for that one piece or two that could take us all the way. Especially with the cliff looming...
  8. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Dombrowski deserves high kudos for the Moreland signing.
  9. #bringbackben
  10. Here are some thoughts from my girl Jen: Jen McCaffrey‏ @jcmccaffrey 5h5 hours ago Pomeranz threw seven cutters tonight. Threw 12 on 5/25 and his line was 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R. He threw 14 on 5/31 and his line was 7 IP, 7 H, 1R Farrell said Pomeranz didn't throw many cutters at start of season because of pressure it puts on forearm. Wonder if that's surfaced again It could also be part of his game plan, but it's curious that when he started throwing more cutters he did well. Why not stick with it... You do have to wonder why he doesn't throw that cutter more often. The question of a lingering injury is always present.
  11. I disagree with that statement. The large majority of people had no issues with the contract given to Price. Price was nowhere near a bust last year. He was disappointing, for sure, because we expected him to be our ace, and he did not perform to that level. However, he still put up decent numbers and contributed 4.5 fWAR. And I say that as one who was not a fan of the signing.
  12. There are most definitely clutch at bats. No one has argued against that.
  13. Dude's got an insane .432 BABIP. How long can he keep it up?
  14. On a different note, I read a nice article this morning regarding Pedroia's leadership, about how he asked Beni to move in with him and took the youngster under his wing. I read a lot of comments on here about how Pedroia is not a leader, but all the comments that I read from people who are actually in the clubhouse with him say otherwise.
  15. In defense of Price, the entire season last year, he owned up to his performances. He didn't make any excuses. That said, he does seem overly sensitive. I think he needs to stay off of Twitter. The team should ban him from social media. That seems to be the source of most of his angst.
  16. Tinkering of the line up makes very little difference. The bottom line is that these guys have to start producing like they are capable of producing. Saying that the team misses Ortiz is just an excuse. Of course the team misses him, but his absence is not the reason the offense has looked as futile as it has on some nights.
  17. To break that down a little farther, during the month of June, his pull % is 50. His IFFB% is 33, and his soft contact % is 39.3, although his hard contact is still 35.7%. He's been scuffling.
  18. I think he was hitting into some pretty bad luck earlier in the season. In the past couple of weeks, he has been hitting the ball very weakly.
  19. Anyone who knows the least bit about me knows that I am the last person who would ever 'bash' any of our players. My post, and I'm sure your posts as well, are in no way meant to bash him. I just don't understand why he is getting a free pass from most in regards to our team's offensive struggles. I know he's been unlucky in terms of BABIP. I am not concerned about him in the long run. But that doesn't mean that he hasn't been part of our offensive struggles. He's one of the guys who is supposed to lead the offensive charge.
  20. I think the injuries have been an issue. Maybe not a major factor, but they have been a factor. It's hard to play consistent ball when the team you're fielding in terms of roster construction has not remained consistent for any length of time. That said, the bigger issue is the team, mainly the offense, underperformance. When there is wide spread underperformance, I think it's fair to question the manager and the coaching staff.
  21. LOL I was going to respond to Moon's post with "Where is Pablo when you need him?"
  22. But I love Smoltz. That alone has to take his name off the contender list.
  23. Well, I thought it made sense at the time, but now that the FO has kind of changed course and said that Swihart will focus only on catching, it seems like a panic move to me. IMO, they have jerked him around, in the process, messing with his development. Sending Swihart back to AAA after only 8 games is without a doubt a panic move in my mind.
  24. FTR, you all would not want to watch a game with me.
  25. Kimmi and Moon - A gang of two.
